After the patch I can not enter the game. Each time I try I am sent back to the 'Select Character' screen. No error message is given. Before the patch I could play. After the patch I can not play. I do not support the claim in the subject line.

if you guys read your knowledge base on predownloading, and helpful hints, you might not have as many problems, one of you knows exactly what i am talking about, stating your current problem. I read it, i heeded the warning, and believe it or not, im on vista and had no complaints, i didnt start downloading till 1030am pacific, and was up and running by 250pacific. THey did a very nice job with all the windows, and ui features, and everything i hvae seen. Especially having harvests stack to 200.. yeay!!!

read the knowledge base about windows vista rok install, it was very helpful,

Basically, you go to windows vista updates, which it links perfectly for you.

Then you download, all set! good luck.

If your system is unable to handle the adaptive combat music you have the ability to disable this feature and use the old music system. This can be found in Options>Sound>General>Adaptive combat music check box. If you uncheck this box you will be using the old non-adaptive system. Thanks!
He's not saying he doesn't have sound.  He's saying the game doesn't work at all.  If you don't have a sound card when you click play it will launch Everquest2.exe, then immediately produce a Windows "please report this crash" window.  The game doesn't even read eq2_recent.ini or any of your settings; it crashs the instant it launches.

I've been playing SOE games on and off since 2000, and yesterday's was indeed one of the smoothest expansion rollouts I've seen thus far.

While I understand that others are having problems with the expansion, I'm not one of them.

My thanks also, to those who've worked so diligently (and continue to do so) to make RoK a reality.

I'm not going to dog them like some have.  As someone who has worked on software projects for years, I can assure you that rollout day is stressful and hectic even on projects far smaller than EQ2.I will only say I was very disappointed that I was never able to pre-download anything over the days prior to the launch in order to make the day better.  As a result even after having to run the patcher twice yesterday to get everything to update (on all 3 of our accounts) it never finished until well after we went to bed.  Yes, we'll get to play later so in the grand scheme of things it's not a huge personal loss, it was just disappointing is all.Hopefully next time SOE will allow some downloading to start before the actual rollout day for those of us who save SOE money by purchasing the digital downloads.

Smooth is an understatement!  SMILEY  Bought the expansion via DD, patched in less than 45 mins, played for a few hours.  Other than zone overload and a small UI issue, not one thing wrong!  WTG SOE!

Kudos from this player as well... After staring at the forums all day and worrying about what would await me when I got home, I was pleasantly surprised when I loaded up the patcher, downloaded the new stuff (took about an hour), logged in, and enjoyed the sights of a stunning expansion. I pre-ordered from Sony directly and everything worked just fine (ok, I had to redo my custom UI, which was also updated for RoK less than 8 hours after going live, but that's just because I can't live without my persona-bar).And I'm not embellishing, just telling it like it is (was)... nice job Sony.

Was smooth for me other than the fact that the lag was almost unbearable.  The delay from the time you press a Combat Art to the time is goes off makes killing a chore.

First off, you must not have seen many rollouts if you think this was bad.  You should look around and check some of the reviews on older MMO's.  I know you'll see much worse.

Secondly, it shouldn't be a suprise to anyone when a shipment dosn't arrive on the exact *day* you expect it.  There are too many factors at play.  The CD/DVD replication and packaging industry is doing peak numbers this time of year, and I assure you there are clients much more important then EQ2 players.  The bottom line, if your going to order something via mail, don't freak out if it dosn't arrive the very minute/day you ordered it.  Beyond that, it shouldn't be a suprise when anything you've ordered shows up.  If you've ordered something that you require in a certain timeframe, you should be asking the company you purchased it from for a tracking number/waybill so you can track it on your end.

Finally, anyone that's been around for a couple weeks know's full well that Sony will not advertise this game.  They also know that they don't stock it on store shelves.  This isn't something new, and has been around for the past couple expansions.

Was the patch time reasonable?  - Yes

Was the server stable? - Yes

Did they need to bring it down for emergency patching during prime time? - No

Overall, I'd say it was an extremely smooth launch.

Exactly the reason I ordered directly from SOE - to have it on time and not worry about the mail- brilliant idea you are telling people to do

But wait......shouldnt that mean directly ordering from the company who runs should make it go smoother ?Nope

Of course SOE is incompetent and managed to charge my CC find but not flag my account for all the expasions - any many others they did this to also - some they even stripped away previously paid for expansions

Overall I'd say SOE [Removed for Content]'d it

Well out of the people I normally group with and chat with ingame, the worst problem I heard of was a few messed up UI's.  And generally those could be attributed to people using custom UI's that had not been updated for the launch.

I'm sure you think it was horrible because you personally had been hit by a bug.  But understand that there will be a certain percentage of people that get hit with things like this when any major content pack goes live.

You want a bad launch?  I've been in MMO's where you couldn't zone.  You couldn't stay connected for more then 5 minutes at a time.  I've seen lag that resulted in less then 1 frame per second gameplay.

I've seen characters with green skin, missing heads, gear that would dissapear from slots or unequip when zoning.  I've seen characters log on with absolutely no gear or money left.  And the company's running the game would completely refuse to reimburse any of it.

If you look around on these boards, there are not legions of angry customers filling the boards with hate.  In fact, there's very few unhappy people .. and I can assure you once the problems are resolved you'll likely forget about it in a week.

So maybe it wasn't a smooth rollout for you.  But in general it was.

In all truth it was a smooth roll-out. The current problems are the all in one problems which if you had gotten the all in one you did download all the stuff just its not flagging correctly I can still zone into areas from expansions but I can't create a Fae character. But the serves did come back up at the time they said and of course your going to need to patch for awhile that is why I got a box version also so I could install from box and patch a few stuff pretty fast. The other big problem is that not all stores purchased enough copys for pre-orders but that isn't Sony fault. The few problems with expansions being credited to your account is that the system is saying you have kunark. And if you have kunark you are allowed to zone into ANY AREA IN GAME EXPANSION CONTENT OR NON EXPANSION CONTENT.  But if you go to try to check you got said expansion other then Ruins of Kunark or create a race that came with EoF it looks to see if you have bought EoF which you havn't, you bought the Kunark all in one. The just need to reprogram the database a bit to get that fixed. I do say its dumb that they overlooked that thing but in all truth you can still zone into the areas, plus who wants to make a fairy any way.

*edit* Also I am one of the people who is having problems with my account being flagged with expansions but as I said I can log into any zone only thing I can't do is create a Fae or the other fairy race.

please excuse my bad grammer I am not a english exspect and taking english classes to get my skills up to normal par.

oo! oo! oo! theres a word for that!Although I admit it would be a little too much to use the R word, lets just say that if your not a U.S. citizen you are disproportionally more likely not to receive your correct order on time.

For one I did not get lucky, I bought the wrong all-in-one which does me no good and there is no refund. I then had to buy the right one and patch again, so not lucky and I get screwed by not getting a refund.

But I don't come here and cry about it, I come to the forums for information that I may not know, not to wade through BS. Yes you had problems - suck it up.

This is true. If you don't have a sound card (listed on the minimum requirements list) the game won't work. We have someone working on a hotfix to eliminate that minimum requirement though. So that's going to be cool soon. If you can't wait until the hotfix, the best step is to get a working sound card in the system. SMILEY
