Ok, since Qeynos Guard is out of the question I'm looking for a really nice shield.  I have the Shield of Wurms and the Draconic Deflector, what others should I be looking out for?

There's a really cool looking shield out of MM that drops on the mob on the alter in the back of the first floor.  It procs hate, but it can't touch the shield of wyrms or the draconic deflector.  Other than that I can't think of anything decent for a kite or tower shield.  Oh, there is the Shield of the Four Winds from Claymore that I use as a secondary, backup, backup, backup sheild. SMILEY

What adorments are you putting on your shields btw?

Yeah that's a great shield in PvP but I'm looking for a good solid upgrade to my current shields. No adorments yet, don't want to blow 10+ plat for a shield adornment if I'm not sure which shield I'm going to use or if I can get an upgrade.

I use the same two and I've seen the drop from MM Castle.I haven't really seen better, other than the Claymore Quest reward. Just curious, why is it out of the question?

Exiles can't do Claymore.

Going off of memory so excuse me if i remember wrong...SMILEY  The ethereal guard is a alternative shield that drops from Vilucadea(sp) in Lyceum of Abhorrance zone.  Not quite as good on shield protection, but does have good selection of stats and i i think mit.  Personally i switch between Draconic Deflector with the +67 mit adornment for high damage mobs and the Shield of Wurms with the 1% block on everything else.  Some encounters that extra mit is more valuable than the avoidance check and i have almost 2 hotbars with gear on it to quickly hotswap out on the fly.  With the bag of tinkerers and ebony strongboxes, i probably carry around too much gear for my own good...SMILEY

Yeah I have a hard time deciding between the wurms and the deflector so was hoping that there was something that surpases them (KoS Raiding wise) or is a happy medium between the two.

Well I gave up trying to remember shields that I have seen and looked into Xanadu... check out this link, then do a search for secondary items and put the restrictions you want on it (ie, 65+, fabled only, etc)

It actually surprised me how many more decent shields there are that I have not seen....

But where do they drop?

I know radiant defender is from hurricanus, but the other 3 I dont know, i think the last one is from FTH thou, the first 2 most likely from contested mobs in KoS

Looks like Wurms is probably one of the best from the looks of it (going off of protection because I'm down the hero line)That's kinda depressing actually.

Draconic Deflector is actually pretty [I cannot control my vocabulary] good

Dont forget to watch for the +Mit on the shields.  The Shield of the Wurms doesnt have any Slash/Pierce/Crush resist, so it drops down a notch IMO.

I use the draconic deflectic pretty much 100%, except for that shield from CMM when I'm dealing with low level mobs and I want to look cooler than I actually am. SMILEY

Can't wait to get my QG, maybe tonight as were going into DT... maybe we'll take down tnax.

I kinda like the Shield of Elders, though it isn't likely I'll see it anytime soon.  Other than the 'extra' effect, it looks like it would fit well in what I'm weak in or strengthen what I'd like to see increase.

Not to derail, but what does everyone think is better?  Draconic Deflector with a +1% to block (or maybe vs p/s/c) or Qeynos Guard?

"better" can mean different things.I try not to play this game strictly with numbers in mind. If I play that way, I get dismayed that the only "advancement" or take-away from this game is that in one year, I'll probably have twice the number of whatever. I don't just look at the 0s and 1s.IMHO, I'd wear the Qeynos Guard. You worked hard for it, so wear it with pride. I think if something is only marginally better, use what you like most. If the others were light years ahead of it, it'd be a different story. :smileyhappy:

Well let me ask you guys something (don't have the hard numbers in front of me) do I get an increase in avoidance from the wurms over the deflector because the shield of wurms is a tower shield vs a kite or because of the AGI on the wurms?

As far as I know, and I have been proved stupid before, there is no "bonus" for being a kite or tower or buckler for that matter.  Its merely in the number it provides.  So if the tower shield has a slightly higher value than the kite you will get more avoidence from it.  You will also see a bonus from plus AGI on the shield.

Thanks, that's what I was looking for.  Heard something about there being a bonus of tower over kite AFTER the whole revamp that enabled us to use kite.  Curious then how some people are getting 50%+ avoidance down the Hero line if they're using the same shield setup that I am.  I'm at 44% give or take a percentage with the Wurms then I dip down to 42ish% with the Deflector.

Hmmm, could be the buffs they have at the time, or higher agi, or +parry, +block, or +defense.   Lots of factors to play with, but it is weird that you drop that much with the switch.  14 AGI for me gives me about .6 avoidence... so perhaps there is some rounding issues going on with the numbers or perhaps you are lower on the AGI curve than I am and recieve more benefit from it?

Probably farther down the AGI curve then you are.  I've kinda sacrificed my AGI and INT for STR/STA/WIS so I sit at around 250AGI self buffed give or take +/-5.

Ok that could explain it then, I am sitting around 350-400 when I tank, so depending on how the curve is it could be reasonable that you see ~2% avoidence from that.
