A good friend of mine is planning to get into EQ2 as an SK, and I have a fury and a necro that I can use to duo with. What would be the better choice? I initially think Fury for the healer / tank combo, but if the SK can heal themselves via taps, would it work better to have a assasin / mage pet + SK tank + necro DPS and lifetaps?

both have pros and cons. Furies have a nice int buff which will allow the SK to do more dmg while remaining in Def stance. also, furies have decent nukes for healers. but, the speed of kills will still be rather slow. with a necro, you have lots more dps, but healing is limited to the SK ward and lifetaps, and limited necro healing. but, if need be, the necro can put up the tank pet, SK goes offensive, and casts his ward on the pet. i can't really say i'd pick one class to duo with over the other; it really depends on the situation.

Also the SK life taps really only come alive later in the game - for the first 30 odd levels a healer would make a better duo as we dont get our direct damage to heal, comsume vaitae till 28,

Until 50's where i immediately started mining to get rares for my ad3's in 53 dire smite  54 blessing upgrade 55 we get Tap veins 56 we get absorb vitae upgrade. i then was able to heal myself with ease - as long as i wasnt interrupted at the wrong times.

Id have to say Fury would be better choice - as if you have a tank and healer, you can easily find some dps to join you on your way.

All my chars are relatively low-level still, so all options could be considered open. Would another class be a better match, especially at low levels? Inquisitor, scout type, etc?

My favorite duoing class has to be a Monk.  I remember back in the DoF days at 60 me and a monk could take out heroic named mobs 3-4 levels above us.  One of my favorite strategies was to start the fight and last as long as I could, and once I started getting to the orange, I'd call for Tsunami and feign, the monk would pick it up and I'd stand up and lifetap myself to full, when the monk couldnt handle the damage anymore she'd feign and I'd pick it up again as if we just started the fight.  You can easily switch off tanking 2 times each effectively and from the insane DPS output of a Monk + the DPS/lifetap abilities of an SK coupled with a Monk's crazy stuns, interrupts, and spot heal, we could take out pretty much any DoF content available.  I haven't really tried those strategies at 70, but I'd assume they would work just as effectively.  Of course on a pvp server that's not really possible SMILEYOf the 2 classes you mentioned though I think I'd go with a Necro...the DPS output is far more attractive than slower fights with better heals to me, and an SK worth his weight should be able to keep himself up long enough for a necro to finish it off...plus if trouble happens we can feign the Necro, die, and get revived to try again...or just feign ourself and wave goodbye to the Necro, either way SMILEY

"Oh, I also have a dirge for fun's sake =D"Go with that then - they both deal and debuff disease, and fun is good.  The Dirge's power buff, and later on stoneskin & hate gain fit very well in with SK.  I haven't played a SK at low levels (betrayed), but at higher ones SKself healing is more than enough for a duo.

well my wifes a Fury and we've duod most of our way through the whole game now apart from the raids SMILEYcouldn't really think of a class i'd want more to duo with... can kill just about every heroic mob in the game with a fury/SK SMILEY

I would go with the necro, just because of the insane DPS you can put out. Fury is cool, but if I were to pick between the 2 necro is the way to go. I would say the ebst healer class for us to duo with is either a cleric or a defiler. But then again because were an SK, we can pretty much duo with any class and still come up good.

Fury + SK = ready made group starter, either for pvp or pve. SK + Necro... while good; not soo much =PNecros compliment SK quites well due to debuff lines and DD type, however think of it in the big picture: If you have a tank and healer its gonna be way easier to flush out a group than if you had a DD and a tank.Just my 2cp
