![]() I've read alot of game lore both inside and outside the game (official lore only, of course). I was a Paladin in EverQuest, making this even more ironic for myself regardless of my speculation proves true or not. Lets take a trip down memory lane, shall we? In the times of EQLive, a noble paladin reforges the Soulfire (I guess thats me and every other paladin that obtained the soulfire). Later, before the Rolosian Army pretty much ripped Norraths major cities a new one, the paladin returned the sword. The sword grows in power over the ages as it believed to consume the souls of its victoms. The sword, though lore much longer than the version I'm presenting here, eventually ends up in the hands of the Avatar of Flame.. who leads one half of the Rolosian Empire (along with the Avatar of War leading the other half). After Cazic-Thule and Brell pretty much stop the simultanious attacks on Freeport and Qeynos, after the Avatar of Tranquility (a monk) slays the Avatar of Flame, Lucan D'Lere (who, if you don't know is profiled as a Human Lich, Immortal, and is... I am happy to say, a Shadowknight) takes the sword before the Tranquility Avatar has a chance to stop him. This is also where the paladins pretty much begin their fall from Freeport. Lucan is as we all surely remember, a Fallen Paladin into Shadowknighthood. The lore on the Soulfire states the weapon has been praised as both an Unholy and Holy weapon, depending on which powerful Paladin or Shadowknight weilded it at the time. During EQlive, it was obviously weilded by a Paladin and praised as a holy sword. Right now, its weilded by a Shadowknight, Lucan D'Lere. I find it ironic if a Shadowknight can earn the sword late-game, and our Shadowknight epic be the first Paladin Epic from EQLive. What a lovely twist to things. I wouldn't mind weilding the ol' flamin sword again. Perhaps completing the quest Lucan bestows it on you as his personal Avatar or general. The sword is likely VERY powerful now, as it consumed the souls of hundreds upon thousands since EQLive to EQ2... its passed hands from paladins, shadowknights, to avatars of gods and played a key role in the war. Either way, I'm glad the swords on my side yet again. Kinda neat =) To bring this theory to even more light, another sword - though I'm unsure if new, contained in EQLive lore or not, called the Freeport Claymore, is very in-line with Qeynos story and is currently in the hands of the good-guys and seems like it would be their epic sword.
