i use a combination of Taunting slap < adept 1 > and the lvl 10 group taunt skill... it refreshes every 8 seconds you can pretty much always have a taunt to push if you time it correctly helps for chain ho's wich also have a taunt perk.

Normally i start fights like this

Pull apply single taunt

complete ho with the group taunt

by this time original taunt is up and guess what. yup smack that one again. i do this very fast mind you and i never have issues keeping aggro. few more taunts plus our dps during the fight and good to go. I normally always coordinate with group to let me get my ho off first and than they can go nuts i do this in the first couple seconds no issues.

Well, i chose my Training spells as taunts, so i use those (velans taunting cry for AE, and Togahan's infuriating poke for 1 target). If you dont have those, its up to you using Silent Threat and Hand Clap.I find that its really all in how you pull. On long pulls, im able to get off 2 taunts and a group buff before i get to base, and that pretty much seals it. On a short pull, i pull with my largest taunt, then hit the group buff.Remember, Word Of Zephyr generates some mad aggro, group buffs should basically be considered a group taunt on incomming. If youre not pulling, but still tanking, Start slapping down your taunts like mad right away, buff as it's incomming.Really, the main things i upgrade to adepts are my taunts, its so important it seems. If youre still running appretice versions of these spells, try to upgrade soon.

There are other ways to help you acquire and maintain agro.  Here is what I do, which works well for me.  I'm sure others have their own ways to manage the encounter.

  1. Make sure the group members assist you.  If they are attacking a mob that you are not, they will eventually get the attention of that mob.
  2. Make sure healeres buff BEFORE the encounter lock.
  3. Place tranquil blessing on healer (lowers their hate)
  4. Once you engage, or lock the encounter, throw your group buff (I think this increases your hate with the encounter)
  5. Group taunt
  6. Single taunt on target
  7. Stun
  8. Repeat

So it may look like this:

Healer buffs - pull (lock) encounter - group buff - group taunt - taunt single target - stun single target - use taunts as they come up

Plan to use most of your mana for taunts.  Use taunt and group taunt as soon as the spell's timer wears to zero.  There are other spells that increase hate as well, but this is differnet at various levels.  Stick to those spells and yu will do fine.

Don't forget that AoEs and group buffs like Wisdom of Zephyl add some extra hate.

yep just stand there getting smacked in the head spamming everything you have with a taunt attatched and group buffing yourself,  make sure no one buffs or cast anything before a pull, or they will snatch agro and its hard to steal back for the most part, unless you got somn good to smack it in the back of the head with once or twice while your single target taunt refreshes...but then the healer will instictively heal herself...aww just a big mess.

Riposte:
Sage, since you so clearly are incapable of playing a Monk or Bruiser as a Tank why do you keep on posting advice on how to do it? When I played my Monk I never had problems keeping aggro.  Funny, most of the Monk Tanks that post here don't complain of any problems holding aggro either.  The OP was having some issues, yes, and got advice from those who know how to keep aggro with a Monk and do it on a regular basis. Just because you are unskilled at playing your class the way it's supposed to be played don't go claiming that the class is broken.  Monks can hold aggro just fine, thank you.  If you can't, then learn your class. /flame off

Okay, I apologize, Sage.  That was a vent.  If you intended it as a joke ... well, I didn't see the humor :smileysad:.  Sorry about the flame.

Just to reiterate a bit:  GROUP BUFFS PRODUCE A LOT OF HATE, ESPECIALLY ON PULLS.

So two things to gather from this:

Use yours.

Don't let others use theirs.

I try to always use a group buff on the pull (quiet purity for me, wisdom of zephyl for you) and once I get the mobs in camp I do my single target and then aoe taunt (then depending on how hard, maybe control breathing).

Then I'll stun/silence maybe a lunging mongoose and by then my taunts are cycled so I retaunt.

Just repeat.

When we were killing dreadwake the other day my ranger friend kept pulling aggro and I was pretty much just rebuffing quiet purity over and over to get it back, because I was OOM (loooong fight).

Buffing on the pull with a few good rounds of taunts should plant you firmly on top of the hate list.  Oh, and remember that controlling aggro isn't always your fault if you have spam happy wizards/scouts in your group.  Since caster damage has been increased they need to control how much they nuke also, as the best tank in the world can lose aggro to their ridiculous damage.

Good luck SMILEY
