I've played EQ since April 2000, several characters all on one account and eventually settled on monk as my main.  I went through the rise and fall of the EQ economy on our server, I went through the rise and fall of monks as viable tank options.  I went through the rise and fall of all the class balance "corrections" that changed the way a lot of classes were originally designed.  Through it all, I've had the constancy of friendships and the excitement over the adventure of exploring this virtual world.

When they nerfed monks in EQ1 (IE put the hard capped AC on us, still in place 3 years later and gaudy equipment notwithstanding) it severly hampered how one played the class...  Still we all adjusted, the monk twinks slowly started vanishing from common gameplay and monks role in a group was re defined.  No longer were we viable tank options, we simply got hit too hard and too often to be anything less than a burden on the healer.  No longer did we reign supreme over pulling duties, if you play EQ1 now you see any class can be the puller for the group, FD or not.  No longer were we producing the type of DPS we were intended to, in fact we've fallen behind several classes (some hybrids no less, thought there was supposed to be a penalty to being half one class half another, more utility and less effectiveness than either parent class, but that is another subject...)

I'm not saying this to [FAAR-NERFED!] about the plight of monks, that's been very well overstated through the years and as we all can see it has gotten us exactly nowhere (btw, why is it that monks have to wait until Time lvl loot to have the ability to use a ranged item with stats on it as well as throwing weapons when all other classes have their bows and/or range items that have no such restrictions?)

I'm just stating the facts and saying hey I am a loyal customer despite what  has been done to my class over the years, there is no way to recoupe all the time I've invested into him even I wanted to be another class it simply isn't efficient with my play time these days.

So I buy EQ2 and check it out...  I have to say I have really enjoyed myself up to this point, the UI is not so group friendly and some of the quests are a little overclocked for the level range they cater to, but all in all I was having more fun than I had in years with EQ1.

Then for some strange reason, something changed...  Leveled up a monk (what else could I play after this many years) level 24 and went through all the AQs (nice job on the design of those quests btw) and was enjoying the class and game tremendously.  I logged in and my resists were all up, my ac increased 35%, my hps and power went up some as well...  I was actually in shock that I logged in and saw upgrades on a Sony backed game without any cost to us (we know the drill SoE, milk it till it's dry)

Then I went to test out my new skills on a blue conning mob I had previously been smokin the day before for exp while LFG in Thundering Steppes, go through 3/4 of my power and burn mend just to survive on a BLUE NON HEROIC encounter...  Ok fluke, maybe that was an anomaly...   Regen and try again, same mob, same results...  So I try other mobs that I KNOW surely barely scratched me in times past, with varying degrees of the same result as above.  So all of the sudden, soloing isn't very efficient for me, all the dodging and blocking I'm supposed to be doing because YAY I'm a monk and that's how the class has been described through 2 games now, is now not working as well as it previously had and I'm left with a sinking feeling in my stomach because it's too familiar.

My question is this...  What in God's name are you people doing out there?  You kill the economy by trying to control how much cash is in the game and make everything attuneable and resellable to merchants at fractions of the resale value, you essentially make useless several tradeskill classes, you hide a nerf under the guise of increased stats and then tell me I'm mitigating 35% more than I was...

I am just at a loss for words, and I think it might be time to go pick up WoW and see if I can avoid the same treatment I've been getting from SoE for years now.

I sincerely hope that whatever fine tuning needs to be done gets done, and I wish that whoever the Devs are would actually get out and play a monk and experience some of the things we do.  Maybe then we'd have a response to the issues for monks in EQ1, I'm not sure I've got the patience to wait for you people to respond to the issues for my monk in EQ2.

Fool me once, shame on you...  Fool me twice, shame on me.
