Since level 20 with the Bo of Striking, I've pretty much stayed with Crushing weapons.  But our slashing and piercing skill maximums are the same as crushing.  So, my crushing (at lvl 2SMILEY is 150/ 150 but my piercing and slashing is something like 45/150.

Is it worth the effort to max these skills or just stay with crushing? Anyone use piercing or slashing weapons?

I'm not even sure you can equip them anymore... it's leftovers from when we were a "fighter" and could equip anything.

That's what I assumed until today.  If we cannot use piercing and slashing I would think the skill would max at something like 50.  But they keep climbing with crushing.

Piercing is spiked cesti works fine and slash is hand wraps ( for Kerran anyway ). But u need to use weapon and rais the skills like u do harvesting. I raised both pierce and slash frome around 40 to 150 took some time but works. Ur attack is a part if ur skill in this according the weapon type u use,soo if u equip weapon wich u have a low score ur Attack will go down, and in my testing so will ur chanse to hit with combat arts do.

I personaly think that monks should have a special weapons class which gives them the ability to use martial arts weapons.  Like sai's I am tired of seeing scouts running around with them sai's are a martial arts weapon and monks should be able to equip them along with katanas I am not saying give us access to all piercing and slashing weapons just make a marials arts weapon skill subclass that gives monks the ability to use martial arts weapons and put sai's and katana's in that class.

At lvl 25 your best bet is probably a weaponsmith.

Katanas are primarily used for cutting (although thrusting is possible), and can be wielded one- or two-handed (the latter being the most common mode). It is worn with cutting-edge up. While the art of practically using the sword for its original purpose is now somewhat obsolete, kenjutsu has turned into gendai budo — modern martial arts for a modern time. The art of drawing the katana is iaido (also known as battō-jutsu or iaijutsu), and kendo is an art of fencing with a shinai (bamboo sword) protected by helmet and armour, additionally, iaijutsu is an older style of battle field type fencing. Old koryu sword schools do still exist (Kashima Shinto-ryu, Kashima Shin-ryu, Katori Shinto-ryu).

Your correct in EQ monks have never used katanas but that still does not change the fact that they are still martial arts weapons and a monk in EQ and EQ2 are martial artists who should be given access to all martial arts weapons.

EQMonks are different from D & D Monks who are different from real Monks. SMILEY

There are similarities but not entirely the same.

Yes, EQMonks use martial arts but thats where most of the similarities end compared to martial artists in general.

In EQ, the monk wield staffs, maces, cestii, fistwraps and similar weapons, no swords, axes, pikes, halberds nor bow and arrow.

Use spiked cestus to increase piercing and slashing cestii (or fistwraps unless they changed this in the patch) to increase slashing. Several ranged weapons use piercing but this isn't a very efficient way to grind the skill up, obviously. The skills are easy to raise and can be raised on greys. I think at level 25 the most efficient thing to do is to buy player made weapons, unless you have a regular group who will help you out in getting drops. Player made weapons are good enough for the job, and are good value. IMHO it's well worth keeping your skills maxed for several reasons, and it's also nice to vary the weapons you use occasionally, just for the fun of it.I'd love to know if ordinary mobs are more vulnerable to certain weapons. I suspect they are, since we know that some of the uber-mobs have variable resistance or vulnerability to certain melee damage types. It kind of feels like skellies are more vulnerable to crushing, but I could be deluding myself. Surprised this doesn't get discussed more, or maybe I missed it?Hope this is helpful.

Fistwraps still broke, they do crushing damage, but use the slashing skill
