I purchased EQ2 when it first came out and played it on and off in the early days. I have 2 accounts.

My question is, What would it take to get my base game current with todays game.

what would i need to purchase to get current with  full access and how much would those expacs and services cost?

Budget minded minds, want to know =)

The new free-to-play model grants your account with every expansion with the exception of the newest one, Age of Discovery. In order to have access to all of the game's current content and features you would need to purchase the Age of Discovery expansion pack and set up a Gold Membership.

**Correction** You would also need to purchase the Destiny of Velious expansion pack seperately.

There are only two expansions to purchase. Destiny of Velious gives you access to the current top tier of content. Velious is required to have access to the free current top tier content of Skyshrine which was GU 63.

Age of Discovery is not required for any of that. If you do plan on playing current top tier the xpac is almost required because of the ablity to reforge gear. The benefits of the xpac also include the new Beastlord class and also the ability to hire mercs to help you level or farm gear and plat.

If you come back without paying you should read the matrix for all the restrictions. That said freebies can level to 90 and 250 AA although your AA slider is locked at 50% and you have access to Adept level spells only and Mastercrafted gear or below. The gear can be upgraded purchasing unlockers though and you will also have to purchase credits if you use the broker.

Also I reccomend if you have the bandwith and decent connection speed to delete your old EQ2 folder and files.

That's news to me.

I thought the F2P didn't give access to Velious?

To get full access without buying collectors editions1) Destiny of Velious (Current Expansion) - $202) Age of Discovery (Feature Pack) - $40Link to view expansion costs / options : http://www.everquest2.com/shop3) Gold subscription - $15 per month, cheaper if you buy in bulk.Total cost to get the ball rolling = $75Note: While you do not technically NEED to purchase the Age of Discovery feature pack, if you anticipate playing solo, the mercenaries you can hire are very effective in lower level content. At max level, reforging (a perk of AoD) is a must-have.

That's news to me.

I thought the F2P didn't give access to Velious?

It doesn't. You have to purchase DoV separately. In fact, of the two, DoV is the more important expansion as it has the content whereas AoD just has the "features."

My suggestion to the OP is: Unless you're close to level 90 already, don't purchase anything except possibly a gold or silver membership. A gold membership (recurring) will cost you $15 monthly. A silver membership will cost you $5 for a one-time purchase, but you'll have limitations on class selection, race selection, bag space, bank space, broker, coin allowance, gear quality you can wear, and spell quality you can use. You will be able to access all of the content, however, up through Sentinel's Fate and you can reach level 90 with 300 AAs without having to shell out too much cash.

You CAN play bronze level for absolute free, but its severely limiting and will probably frustrate you far more than $5 is worth. To me $5 < my sanity

Once you hit 90 or get close, you'll want to look into picking up the Destiny of Velious expansion- which will run you $20 (or 2000 SC). If you get a station cash card from wal mart with the 500 bonus SC, it'll cost you $15. Destiny of Velious has the most recent content for the game and this will be where you settle in to reach max level and beyond. This is also the point where, if you went with silver access, you'll want to consider gold membership because you'll be severely limited in your game success due to gear quality jump in this expansion.

When you hit 280 AA, you'll have the opportunity to level up to 92; however, you can't reach 320 AAs(max) without the Age of Discovery expansion. This will run you $40 (or 4000 SC). Again, if you hit up walmart for SC cards, you can get the expansion for $10 cheaper. This will open up the beastlord class, reforger, dungeon maker, and a couple other things I can't think of off the top of my head. **Unless you really, really want mercs. Then pick this up along with your $5 silver account. My thoughts personally? Even without mercs, the game and leveling is easy sauce. If you are being budget conscious, give it a shot without this expac and don't worry about it for a while unless you're having a really difficult time.**

So you need:

Silver account($5) or gold account (~$15 monthly)

@90: Destiny of Velious ($15 walmart SC special)

@280AA: Age of Destiny ($30 walmart SC special)

Hey -

I have a similar question to the OP, hope someone can help. I used to play this 4 years ago. Have moved away but decided to return. I have managed to log into my old account and have started to stream the F2P client.

It's just loaded up and I can't see any of my characters from before. Should I be able to see them? If not, what would one need to do?Cheers in advance.

I would make sure you have the right version selected for your region.  In the upper left corner of the launch screen.  US English, EU English, etc.

Does anyone see the problem here? Maybe why people are asking for transfers and mergers?

$75 for a 2004 game.

Now the challenge of remembering how the hell to play the game again. It's like waking from amnesia.

Your accounts may possibly be on a different account. I'd recommend submitting a ticket to our billing support team so we can figure out what's going on.

absolutely not, the 2004 version of the game is free - available at absolutely no cost, if you want current features that is what will cost you alone with the gold subscription. Compared to the other game it is a lot cheaper - 90.00 just for the software and 15 for the subscription. So 30.00 more expensive then starting eq2 from scratch
