Attention, residents of Norrath! We are pleased to reveal a great many changes that are coming to Dungeon Maker this week.

Now you – and we do mean you – can explore the creations of your fellow players in Dungeon Maker! Beginning today, you will be able to play as your own character in the Dungeon Maker dungeons.  For those who prefer the original method of selecting an adventurer, fear not! That ability will still be available. When you bring up the Dungeon Maker start screen, you will be able to select from two options, either “Play as Self” or “Play as Avatar.”

We have also added two new features that will enhance the storytelling capabilities present in Dungeon Maker. First, there are new objects that can turn characters into actors. When you place these objects next to a specific character, it will turn it into an NPC like you see throughout Norrath. This character will not attack the players, nor will players be able to kill it. Second, you now have the ability to customize the on screen pop-ups. When designing your dungeons, you will be able to select from nine different colors for the pop-ups and add these pop-up windows to objects, so they will present text to players as they run through your dungeon.

Finally, new charms and headgear will also be available later this week. The new gear is accessible every ten levels, from 20-90. There have also been updates to bring the quality up to level 92 as well.

We’d love to see your new dungeon creations using these new updates and features! Post your screenshots in the forum!

Did the changes to making a mob a NPC and the popup texts, already go live? Or is this later this week or next week?

Edit: Also if it is live, what are items called that we use to make NPC mobs? Not seeing anything new anywhere. Thanks.

I'm sorry for the confusion! We hope to have these new build items live tomorrow.

Hello

The "Play as self" option is not Live on Storm.. would you release it in the next patch?

Great additions!

Hopefully, although it isn't stated explicitly, when you say they will be like NPCs you see throughout Norrath, that means we will be able to create a dialogue the player can have with the NPC.  I'd love there also to be quests given, but I suspect that's too much to hope for.

I look forward to incorporating the npcs and the popup text to a new dungeon, once the flavor text feature is fixed.  Actually, it would make my day to discover it's already been fixed with the rollout of these new features.  /crosses fingers.

edit - I could see the popup text thingies on the marketplace, but I couldn't find anything for NPCs on the Marketplace, in the toolbox, or on the spawners.  I was in my "dungeon warehouse" so I noticed you also changed the pets which I like, unless that is glitch.  Some mobs just looked creepy to me with a succubus pet.  Tried to see if there was option to select which one you wanted to use, but didn't look like we could choose.

Well my excitment about this is once again squashed.. the new additions for the DM we have to pay for? Come on this is lousy. You could have at least mentioned that so I would not have got my hopes up about messing around with DM again.

What additions do you have to pay for, and is that in tokens or in station cash?

The new items are availble for tokens (Dungeon Marks). A few are also available for Station Cash. We are still missing the object to turn a mob into an actor as well as one of the color options for the windows; those will be available before the next update.

Those of you who have been running dungeons as your character, we'd love to hear your feedback on the experience!

I playtested my own dungeon once I was able too with my character, I noticed that the mobs lasted longer than most instance Mobs (Good thing SMILEY ) and that Corpscrush does not work on my Vampire mobs.

After my run, (I play a Monk) revamped my Dungeon Swapped out and added more mobs and items. basically made it harder.

You know a Search feature for a specfic dungeon would be nice SMILEY

Oasis Server, Mistmore series, Lich's Lair.

On Valor I also miss the button to play a dungeon as player character.

Is there any command line option to do so or have some servers been forgotten?

At least one of these should've been granted in the default toolkit, imo. At least we can spend DM to get them.

Those of you who have been running dungeons as your character, we'd love to hear your feedback on the experience!

My initial impression was that it was a lot harder to go through dungeons with my admittedly non-optimized level 71 Berserker thanwith the avatars.  I added my mystic merc and it was much easier except that was completely annoying because of the change in my mystic's behavior (recently aggroing everything, and constantly  fighting and casting this buff that physically enlarges an already large Barbarian character.  Change settings and he just stands around).  I'd conclude playing my character is below the weakest avatar without merc and above the strongest avatar with the merc in my case in the couple of dungeons I ran that I'd previously been through.

I might test further if I hear the mystic merc is restored back to it's former behavior or I level and equip closer to max.  However, the current merc behavior is too annoying and alternately my character is currently to weak to make it fun to go through the average solo dungeon.  That's not a suggestion to change since I expect higher level and/or better equipped characters probably have a more balanced experience.  It's not that far off even for my character.

Oh, and I might have a chance to test with a level 42ish Ratonga group this coming sunday.  I can report that experience then.  We are planning to run player dungeons.

We're looking into the issue where 'play as yourself' is not working on international servers.

Also, these two new DM items are now up on the Marketplace:

Dungeon maker - Builders - Story Objects - Popup Test (Yellow)

Dungeon maker - Builders - Storytelling - Make Actor

International patchers are being updated (pushing out the missing file).  I'll reply when it's done.

Ive noticed that all the gear on DM is HEIRLOOM, except helms, is this intentional? Why is everything else heirloom but not the helms, seems odd to me?

The updated file is now on the international patchers.  please repatch and you should correctly get the 'play as self' button.

Well, my initial response to the new Dungeon Maker items was not a good one seeing as they had to be bought in order to be used. Yes I thought they were just being added to the DM, not the Marketplace. Then, we ran a few dungeons and saw we could earn the marks at a fairly decent rate so we ran a few, got some marks, bought a few items and we were *really* enjoying ourselves playing the Dungeon Maker once again.

We made our own dungeon with a 20,220 difficulty rating which would net 205 marks per run. Each run would take us about 40-50 minutes to complete and that was just right we thought. So we ran it off and on through the day as time permitted. All of a sudden we were only getting 34 marks per run. We thought this was a glitch, so we ran it again and 40 minutes later another 34 marks. I unpublished, republished, doublechecked the rating.. then we find out that SOE is nerfing the amount of marks recieved already.

What a letdown.

34 marks for 40 minutes and you need  100-200 marks per DM builder item, or 1000 marks to buy a charm. No thanks.

So now we will probably just let the DM go back to where it has been for months.. another unused aspect of this game. Just when we were starting to have fun with it again and it did not seem to be such a grind the fun is taken away.

Just a bit of feedback in the vein of dungeon maker changes.. I'm super excited to see some charms that my Mage could use. It's a good thing that I saved up thousands of marks because trying to run Skyshrine for charms was getting frustrating! I'm enjoying the other new additions so far as well. Thanks guys!

The marks are back to normal now, this was a temporary decrease due to another problem.

They aren't back to normal on Crushbone.  Just went through some dungeons with some people and was getting about a third of what I got the first time through them.  Went as avatars.

UPDATE: Went through my older dungeon on Antonia Bayle this morning and received normal amount of marks.

I tried running a player made dungeon when this feature first came out.  I hated the avatars, and never did it again.  I gave it another try today because I desperately needed a few of the new charms.  I love it!  Being able to play as my own character made all the difference.

I earned enough marks to get all my 92s charms plus a few mounts.  I ran all this on my lvl 51 illy and got about 15 AA in the process.  No burnout, good loot, and AA.  All win.

PS the dungeons were giving the proper number of marks for me all day, too.
