This is one of the best features i've ever seen added to any game, it will greatly enhance my gameplay and roleplay experience, and even group experience.

I seriously can't wait for everyone to hear the voice and face of Talathion!

I have to say that aside from the conversion to F2P, I am very unhappy with the direction of the game under SJ.

Dungeon Maker and Finder are busts and need serious work. Re-itemization is still borked. New content is coming too slowly.

I think that this new 'feature' is actually something being worked on for EQNext and its being beta tested in EQ2. I'm afraid that this model, using EQ2 to test stuff for EQNext, will be the norm.

If you guys want to fix item mechanics/all that so badly, why not apply for the job?

There is no posting for this job, I checked.

I really want people to see the voice and hear the face of Talathion...

SOE Emote will let me do that, don't ruin other players fun!

I don't presonally know any one in game that will use this.

In fact, anyone modulating a voice in my raid will be removed.  That would just be incredibly annoying for the other 23 people.

Okay, now I DO have a serious question about this feature.

When you mod a voice, will that only be heard in voice chat? OR will it be in the game world, like a NPC voice? Because you want to bring the roleplay, back into roleplay games, and roleplayers don't hang out in VC...it's all done in emotes, and typing.

It will be in voice chat.  I'm 99.99% sure of this as these types of modulators are commonly available.  To revamp the wave output of the client canned emotes would actually be more complicated to achieve.

Does anyone even have a webcam on their desktop? Seriously, I'd imagine not many people play the game on a laptop and if they do, their graphics settings are probably too low to even see facial expressions. Prove me wrong, does anyone have a webcam attached to their primary eq2 computer?

While I doubt I'll use this new feature, I think it's pretty cool.  It's important for SoE to develop new features like this that, if I'm not mistaken, is unique among MMORPGs.

Only in VC. This gives role players more of an option to use VC.

Since the desktop I use for gaming is also the one I hold business meetings on it through WebEx, Paetec and Cisco Presence / jabber have a high resolution one on it - a Microsoft Lifecam studio, does 1080p

I'm not sure why we're taking so long to acknowledge they just don't give a darn about having a good raiding game anymore.  They've clearly decided to take a new path with EQ2, and its probably time for us end-game people to just move on.

Summer is coming...

OMG.... I realize some people think Frogloks are da'Bomb, which they are not, but WHY on earth would anyone ever use a frog face to show facial expressions from the get-go.  Really!?!  No, REALLT!?!?  All of the gender unique 'human' models and they go and show a Frog-face regardless of how fitting it might be as an avatar.

Oh and btw, My Webcam is right next to my Facebook account .... nonexistant.

Hardly. Look up MorphVox Pro, it's been out for years. A basic version was included in the drivers for at least one Logitech gaming headset a year and change ago, and it works with any voice software (it creates a new MVP output audio device, you point MVP at your regular mic input, point your game or voice software at the MVP output device and off you go).

I never liked it because of the lag the audio processing introduces. And you can't really change your voice that much, the software can change pitch and timbre but it can't affect intonation and inflection and cadence so it's fairly obvious if someone's trying to alter their normal voice too much. And the non-human voices are just... they make me quick to hit the Mute button, and I can put up with just about anything.

Honestly Roleplaying folks have been ignored for a very long time, So even as a raider myself I can see this being a very good feature for them. SOE has to listen to all of our griping and prioritize things. Even if a system has been broken for 6 months, Roleplayers have been ignored for years. Hence I would feel they are higher on the priority list and this will make alot of them happy.

Now what I dont understand is that this is a pretty huge announcement from a technology stand point. I dont see what they could possibly be announcing at E3 on the 5th now. I mean this is gonna be all over the web at every news site for games in less than 48 hours. So then what will be so big at E3? A rehash of this info will not be E3 worthy.

I am afraid to think bigger because I will most likely be disappointed.

Can you point to a roleplayer that requested this?  I'm going to go out on a limb and say I'd bet 90% of roleplayers are not intersted in the voice modulations.

I agree they can't cater to only one group, but this doesn't seem like a big win and timed pretty horribly.

I do understand though, that the modulation isn't something SOE developed, its something the voice chat company they use offers.  At most SoE just helped setup what filters goes to each race/gender.

The facial expresions I'd also wager is a licensed technology.

90% of stuff added to any MMO EQ and EQ2 included is not requested, it is stuff the developers make for the game cuz THEY think its cool. Roleplayers may not have requested it, but they will for sure benefit from it and feel like they arent being ignored. And everyone seems to be focusing on the voice thing. That isnt new no, but transmitting facial expressions to make your own emotes and make the characters seem more alive, is groundbreaking never been done before in any mmo. The closest was in rainbow 6 vegas 2 where you could take a picture of your face and overlay it on your SWAT dude. but that was still a photo Not real time asymetrical movement. This is bigger than any of you realize. It is a new mmo feature, world first and it expands interactivity within the game.

Nah, I get that, but I've seen this technology used elsewhere, just first time in an MMO.

However, I just can't get excited about features that enhance the time spent in game not actually playing the game.  Maybe I could get excited about that if there wasn't so many issues around gameplay and available content to play.

A car can have an awesome paint job, with the most nifty entertainment system in the world, but if the engine doesn't work and it can't actually go anywhere, the features are rather moot.

Good for SoE. Glad that they got some new MMO 'feature' before someone else. I have no problem with roleplayers. I hope they do enjoy this. I honestly could not care less about it. I can't remember the last time I looked at another characters face. This won't make me start looking. It's not bigger than I realize. I just don't care. I'm not playing this game so SOE can be groundbreaking with worthless fluff.

I meant with the facial tracking/matching too.  I've never seen anything like that in a MMORPG.

Personally, I think the voice sounds annoying too...
