I would imagine it will be the same as other major updates .. about 12 hours. Typically we've gotten onto game about 5-6pm EST after updates this large. Then the new zones will be laggy as heck as everyone flocks to it -- for at least a good week.

I am expecting it to go down around 1 AM maybe 4 AM PDT.  But I haven't seen anything either.

Its a tradition that the GU will normally take around 10+ hours all the new discoveries will be made on US servers before the EU servers are even looked at. Plus youll get the launcher patch error which means that youll be knackered to play the game on release date. So pencil in wednesday or thursday before you get into game.

However im sure SOE will only  give you an eta of 7 hours.. so times that by 3 or 4.

But hell look what you got coming a great new zone to explore.

AFAIK, we might not even get a GU update since the PSS.1 deal is done. We might be already out of mind, out of sight. Knock, knock, we are still here, don't lock that door just yet.

After everything we have said about the PSS1 deal and how we are not happy being sold off as from experience these deals cause delays on fixes, patches and updates for those involved you shamelessly show your face on this thread and tell us that?

Don't bother, it's always the same:

• EU servers go down at the same time as US
• 5h laters, US servers go up
• 2 hours later, we get a message saying "sorry, there may be a delay, I'm going to check"
• 1h later, another message saying "it'll be in an hour or so" (so around midnight EU time)
• between 2 hours and 2 days later (or one week at the worst), the servers come back up

In between, what happened is the following:

• The hamsters feeding the typewriter are underfed and die from exaustion
• some time later the typed datas are put on a boat called Titanic to cross the Atlantic
• somewhere in the middle of the see, the boat sinks and submarines are sent to recover the data
• the datas arrives at Amsterdam and have to be typed back there!
• then, the datas are translated from english to english so UK players can understand them (meanwile French and German translations are borked/badly outdated/replaced by XXX as usual)
• everybody goes to sleep
• somebody wakes up and realise the EU servers have been forgotten
• He feeds the hamster and Lo and Behold ! Servers come back up!

Hum... So, this huge sarcasm (that everybody on French server 100% believes in by now) to tell you something: PLEASE ! START TO SEND THE DATA TO AMSTERDAM BEFORE YOU BRING DOWN THE SERVERS !

Been looking for this info myself for Splitpaw. This is a very good example of why a lot of Euro players have been so upset about the PSS deal.

In the past the update/expansion downtimes meant we'd lose server at 3pm BST and have it back up for an evening's play of 8pm-10pm, depending how it went.

Now we are told (in this PSS deal) we are being sourced out for 'better localisation' and now we:

A] Don't even know what downtime we will get, and

B] It might very well be even later than in the past, losing any play in the new expansion on the day of it's release

Way to go.

I expect downtime to be about 10 hours (7AM PT until ~5PM PT), as some other posters have already said.  If they really believe it's going to take only 5 hours, I hope they're right.  But they're running a little thin on credibility.

My best guess (remember it's the first GU Piestro sees on EQ2), is that he went to ask a bored tech somewhere and said "when is the GU tomorrow for EU servers". He was answered "5AM as usual for 5 hours" and so assumed what he wrote.

5AM the 17th is still the 16th on US side, so it could mean 5AM the 18th which is not the usual hour for EU servers.It could be a misunderstanding on what local time is used, aka he wrote 5AM London time instead of 5AM PST.

Anyway, it's 10 AM in France and the GU definatedly wasn't patched (as expected).

I'll not copy and paste Whilhelmina's obviously BRILLIANT post from above, but, I will assume for the sake of this post that the US and Splitpaw servers will be taken offline at the same time. 

Piestro:

1. What provisions, if any have been taken to push the patchdata accross the Atlantic on time?
2. Are you predicting any additional downtime for the EU servers as you have to remotely deploy the patch?
3. When can we genuinely expect the servers back up and running?  Or is it another "stay up 'til 2am in the vain hope of getting in"
4. Do you like posts with numbered lists; I find them quite calming....
