Its my understanding as a Teacher of a Tradeskill, undertaking an Apprentice is to teach that apprentice your trade.

So why is it that the Apprentice Quests require you (In the majourity of cases in my particular circumstance) have you use other methods of crafting?

As a Woodworker, I find myself using the Loom, or Workbench, amongst others and spend very little time on the actual Saw Mill. So doing a tradeskill quest as a helping hand for our Apprentices, yet we do them in a technique that we have not mastered.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Edit: I only make Woodworking stuff, Arrows, totems, etc. But now that I'm teaching someone else how to be a woodworker. I had to purchase every other table for my house, to use a technique I haven't mastered, to teach them a Craft that you don't tend to use often, if at all. It is intended to be like this? Just curious.

I don't hate the apprentices, but I do confess to being disappointed with them.  They are really nothing like I was expecting them to be.

I had hoped that apprentices were going to be something that took quite a bit of effort to get.  I had hoped that they would maybe do things like make me 20 chairs if I gave them enough time.  Maybe my apprentice could earn a little experience if I did rush orders while they were with me and could "learn" from those things.  I was hoping it really would be like teaching an apprentice my skill and that eventually they could stumble across something like a unique recipe or get faster at making me those 20 chairs.

Ultimately what we got is not really an apprentice to teach our crafts to, but recipe researchers.  It's our job to do the grunt work for them, and they'll teach us what they know instead.
