First Rime Quest - Back in Rime

I have 50k status with Rime but it still required me to have my shardhammer illusion in my bags and I had to attempt to use it before Bargbae Skullhelm would talk to me. And I was wearing a full set of rime gear in my appearance!

When you have more than -8000 faction, you get an error message saying that the illusion only works between -40,000 and -8,000 Rime faction. So, I had to go get it. Use it, and get an error before the guy would talk to me, when, with the faction I have, I should be his best buddy.

Something's Not Quite Right with this logic. Is this just to keep us from starting rime quests without being told we need to by a goat?

The error is not that saying that the illusion only works between -40,000 and -8,000 Rime faction, it is saying that the faction adjustment that happens as a result of wearing the illusion only works between -40,000 and -8,000 Rime faction.

Yes, you need the illusoin for all of the Order of Rime quests in Great Divide.

i have max ally with order of rime 50k, i am wearing the illusion but the npc will not talk to me. he just tells me to get away before his wolf attacks me. am i forgetting something or am i bugged?

Did you speak to Vira first?

i received the quest from vira. i went back and she told me to sneak into the camp. the journal still says i must talk to the npc in the rime camp. he still says go away or i will sic my wolf on you

finally after completing all the quests from capt on the docks,bargbae was receptive to my hail and completed the quest.

Question in general for the Rime questline:

Completing the Rime quests as well as killing the Thurgadin NPCs required for the quests still reduce Thurgadin faction?

Vira Warcarver won't offer me the quest -- either the 'you should take off that illusion' or 'I wonder if' response is all she offers.

Those are the same messages I get at max negative Rime faction. I suppose that you need to be ally with Rime in order to do this quest series?

Should be at 40k Rime faction at the least.

It's still a net increase, but only if you kill JUST the Thurgadin NPCs you absolutely need and break and run off the remainder of any encounters that have "extra" mobs. The war dogs also count as Thurgadin faction. It's only a net increase of 1K if you do kill NOTHING extra, which is a pain to do with the linked encounters.

So if you're working on Thurgadin faction it's a bit of a risk. The net 1K increase is the equivalent of one Public Quest, and given the low health of many of the groups that have target mobs in them, it's very easy to kill extras. It's not worth the effort of breaking a bunch of encounters and avoiding AOEs all for ~70% AA from the 14 turn-ins and a net increase of 1K that only comes after completing everything.

The whole mechanic is a bit bizarre. You have to be 40K+ faction without the illusion ... yet you still have to USE the illusion that gives you +40K faction only if you're between -8,000 and -40,000. And wearing the illusion doesn't prevent your faction loss (as in the Hole) with the other local factions. And killing Thurgadin extras loses you 100 faction while killing Rime mobs loses you 25. Apparently despite being vicious unyielding bastages, the Rime are quite forgiving.

I've done all quests before Vira. She's not giving me quest.

I went and got Illusion. Only response i get is "wonder.." or with illusion "you should take off illusion..bla bla"

Im confused with a part you need to be faction 40k+

I'm now -8,850. So i could wear illusion. illusion works only you are -8,801 or less. It gives 40k faction. totally I will not hit +40k with math.

So In order to get quest from Vira, I need natural 40K faction from Order of Rime and have illusion item in my bag?

DoV Order of Rime quest series worth doing 40k faciton work? =D

Also someone mention, you need 40K plus natural faction in order to get quest, but you have to lower it to be able to use illusion as part of quest ???? Does it not make sense to me. How does it work?

-->>> alright I found out now that you still can wear illusion even you are out of range like more than -8,800 , it just doesn't apply 40K faction bonus. <<----
