So inquiring minds want to know more about your Norrathian side... you're Koada'Dal, but what class? Do you craft? What's your favorite EQ2 armor? How about your favorite EQ2 zone?

Tell all!

Aida. The Egyptian princess is named Amneris. I spelled it a little differently, thinking that I'd pick an original name so I wasn't confused with anyone else out there in the world, and then lo and behold it ended up being a real name, lol. SMILEY

Depending on the server, I'm either a dirge or trouby. I thought troubador was appropriate for spreading the news across the lands, but dirge is my alter-ego's class and the one I know best. (Yes, my alter-ego (and main character) is Tier'Dal, muhahaha.)

I must confess that I don't partake in crafting. In EQ I was a jeweler, and quite enjoyed it. When EQII was released and the crafting system was completely different, my brain just said, "Nuh uh. I don't get it. I'll buy stuff from those who are skilled at it." SMILEY Support your local craftsfolk!

My favorite EQII zone is Sinking Sands. I love everything tropical, and for playing and just hanging out, that's my favorite spot. If I need to return to civilization for provisions and business, Maj'Dul is my city of choice.

I'll just call the cabana boy to bring me a pina colada as I sit here lounging on Bucaneer Beach. SMILEY

Alas, I was a Star Wars geek by the age of 4, and it was all downhill from there. SMILEY I honestly walked in to Comic-Con for the first time two summers ago and breathed this glorious sigh of earthly contentment. I turned to Zatozia, smiled and said, "I am among my people." Lol!

Wait ... she needed to be 'converted'?!!! Didn't just watching one or two episodes, in the correct order, do it? Heck, even watching them in the 'wrong' order they were aired should do it for anyone with any taste!! I was hooked after the 'first' episode, The Train Job. Well, after the last 10 minutes of the episode:

Mal: Now this is all the money Niska gave us in advance. You bring it back to him, tell him the job didn't work out. We're not thieves ... well, we are thieves. Point is we're not takin' what's his. Now we'll stay out of his way the best we can from here on in. You explain that that's best for everyone, okay?

Crow: Keep the money. Use it to buy a funeral. It doesn't matter where you go, or how far you fly. I will hunt you down, and the last thing you see will be my blade.

Mal: Darn. [kick]...

OH MY GOD!!!! Best TV show EVER! I'm still sad about it.

I actually recall watching part of the first episode that aired, but at the time I just didn't get it. Later I heard that they aired in the wrong order and that killed a lot of interest in the show. Bad FOX. Bad.

Fast forward to Dragon*Con 2008...Browncoats everywhere. Jayne hats everywhere. Nathan Fillion in the celebrity signing room.

Me: "Oh, that's Captain Hammer. Neat."

Kiara: "OMG, that's not just Captain Hammer, silly girl! That's MAL!" *drool*

So I came home and got nudged incessantly to watch the series. The husband and I finally watched it and the movie. And then I understood. SMILEY

But to my defense, I was too busy being a Star Wars / Star Trek / Harry Potter fangirl to realize I'd missed something that awesome.

This year after Dragon*Con was over, we decided to watch Battlestar Galactica. I'd seen a jillion Starbucks and other crew folks and a huge BSG batallion in the parade, so I was eager to find out what they loved so much.

Now I'm due for catching up on another geeky thing. I'm open to suggestions. SMILEY

If I had the time and money, you'd see me in Padme's rainbow dress. Alas, I've researched it in the costume forums and doing it properly requires a very skilled fabric dye job that I haven't the talent for, nor the cash to pay an artist to do.

Besides, I never said I was a Rebel now, did I?

OK, I can get behind blaming FOX! SMILEY If you didn't make it to the end of that 'first' episode, I can see why you weren't hooked. The hook in that episode was the final scene! And starting a story in the middle is usually a bad idea! Bad FOX indeed! SMILEY

Amnerys wrote:

If you're looking for geeky books, might I suggest:

George R.R. Martin's "The Song of Ice and Fire" series. The first book is A Game of Thrones.

  • This is hands down the best currently ongoing Fantasy series IMHO. It reads like historical fiction at first ... knights and swords, noble houses striving against each other, political infighting and machinations at the royal court, etc. But there's a hint (just a hint at first) of magic, and something dark stirring in the background ...
  • But be warned:
    • It's a long series with a long way to go. There will be at least 3 more LARGE books in the series, and Martin has been taking longer, and longer, and LONGER between each book (time measured in years, not months). If you don't mind waiting on pins and needles for the next decade like the rest of us poor suckers ... ah, I meant fans ... then I'd still recommend it. SMILEY
    • The fourth book and most recent book in the series is no where near as strong as the first three. Up until the 4th, I believe each book was better than the last! But the manuscript for the 4th book had grown so huge that Martin's publisher forced him to split it in half. I think the narrative flow clearly suffered from that split. SMILEY
    • The series is more than a little dark.

Jim Butcher's "The Dresden Files". The first book is Stormfront.

  • Harry Dresden is the only openly practicing Wizard in modern day Chicago. He's in the Yellow Pages under "Wizard". The books are sort of a cross between horror, fantasy, and detective novels. And the mix works quite well! SMILEY It doesn't have the depth, complexity and scope of Martin's work, but still a fun read. It's more like popcorn to Martin's steak. And like popcorn, you won't be able to stop until it's 'done'. At least I wasn't able to stop until I finished the current book, Changes. Jim's a geek and it kinda shows in his work. Well, so's Martin really (RPGer, Comic fan, etc.), but 'in' geek references really wouldn't work in Martin's fantasy setting they way they work in Butcher's. SMILEY The Harry Dresden character is sort of a geek too (magic geek, not tech or other 'normal' variety of geek SMILEY) who's full of wisecracks and sarcasm, and doesn't know when to keep his mouth shut. It's really fast, fun reading.
  • This is an ongoing series too, but Butcher has been cranking them out annually on a consistent basis. 10 books so far, with 10 more 'case files' planned, and then an 'apocalyptic trilogy' to cap it all off. So it will be more than a decade before this series is done too.
  • This series also has some dark aspects.
  • The SciFi channel turned the books into a short lived TV series. I heard they weren't anywhere near as good as the books. I did start to watch the first episode, but couldn't get past how hopelessly wrong the casting of the characters was. SMILEY

Another reason to be in "Jedi" Robes, cause the cuts the same for Dark and Lightside, just a differant dye job. SMILEY

All the best girls are short and geeky!  I'm both myself, so I would know SMILEY

Congrats on the promotion and I have to second the Dresden Files recommendation if you're into books.  So many twists!  The TV series is ok, but only if you treat it separately from the books (they're almost completely different plots, anyways).
