Why don't I always hear the voices of the Quest givers? Most of the time I do hear the voice of the quest givers when he or she sends me out on a mission. But sometimes when I return all I see is text and can't hear them audibly at all? Is this a bug in the game or what? I was wondering if anyone else was having this problem to?

Not every NPC is voiced.

I used to hear voices all the time (whenever I didn't take my medication)!

Like a previous OP said, not all NPCs are voiced. But for the ones that are, there a few diff options that control them.  The first question, is do you still have the voice pak option checked in your login preferences? There is also an option that allows you to hear the voice dialog the first time you go to an NPC, but not any time after that. Can't remember if its just the voice or the entire run-by-and-see-the-dialog thing.

Likely its none of these things, but they are things you can check pretty easily.

There's also the possibility that that npc doesn't have all their dialogue voiced.  Ran into a few of those in my travel.  Usually in old zones with revamped/added quests.  The initial dialogue is voiced but then anything past that is text-only.

With the quality of the voice acting in EQ2 being what it is, you are not missing much.

Some of the older content had some really good voiceovers, now the most a lot of them do is So, Hail, etc.. and the voice half the time doesn't match the toon your talking with.

I have heard it said that voice actors cost a lot of money as the reason we only have a few now that do talk.

I like the voice overs.  Hope to see more of them.  Would like to see every line from every NPC voiced, but I realize that's impractical.

They should set up some type of competition or reward to allow players to perform some of the voices.  Or, post 10 different scripts somewhere and allow folks to submit a voice over reading of the script and then choose the best one.  I bet tons of players would submit readings for a chance to hear themselves in the game and they would get many voices for free...

They reserve the right to edit, not pick any winner, etc., to maintain control.

That's actuallty a pretty good idea...just an extension off the art contests and such we already have...
