So, we were chatting it up on the homeshow channel this AM I mentioned the joy of the ESC key in home decorating. A few of the fellow chatters hadn't heard of this trick beofre and suggested I post it here in case it was news to someone else as well.

If you move an item and it's not the right item or you changed your mind...hitting the ESC key pops the item back into position. I find it handy when decoating places where items tend to overlap alot. I also use it in fishtanks. I grab the mirror, run past it and then hit esc to place it back in position, drop whatever I wanted to add, then hit esc again to get back out of the fish tank SMILEY

Degrees of item movement that I counted a while ago...

fractions are based off one nurmal scroll, and the wall ones may be off by a bit, its absurd how miniscule of an angle change they create.

--FLOOR--

mouse scroll turns left / right

mouse scroll + ALT turns left / right (1/5th)

CTRL + mouse scroll move up / down

CTRL + mouse scroll + ALT move up / down (1/5th)

SHIFT + mouse scroll scale larger / smaller

SHIFT + mouse scroll + ALT scale larger / smaller (1/5th)

--WALL--

mouse scroll turns left / right

mouse scroll + ALT turns left / right (1/5)

CTRL + mouse scroll turns left / right (1/33)

CTRL + mouse scroll + ALT turns left / right (1/165...ish)

Thanks for that amazing tip, I am using it frequently now SMILEY

Just as a side note it doesn't work if you PICK UP the item so if you are unsure then always click MOVE then pick up the item once you have the right thing.

Thanks again hon.. the esc key is gonna be a life (stress) saver!!

Another helpful tip...when you are workin on some of those ares that are hard to work with...or working with backs of paintings...sometimes it's handy to have some way to shrink down to get right in there!  I've found that to be really handy!  Also.../house is your friend when stuck behind a painting!  Remember...when placing items sometimes where you are standing can determine where/how you can place that item! moving just a half inch up, down, left or right can let ya place that box just where you need it!!

There ya go...a few tips from...The Pirate!!

While we're sharing tips, there's another tip I "overheard" from Tock** in the local crafting channel:

When

CTRL + mouse scroll move up / down

and even

CTRL + mouse scroll + ALT move up / down (1/5th)

is still vertically moving an item too much, then place a collision-enabled (or "solid" as in non-permeable) rug under the item you are elevating.

Then resize the rug, which will increase / decrease its thickness, thereby allowing a *much* narrower fine-tuning of the desired item's elevation than simply ctrl + mouse + alt. That should help you get your item into precisely the desired elevation.

When done, remove the rug, and you're all set.

Hope that helps! SMILEY

**If you're unfamiliar with his work, Mr. Tock is one of those few who could easilly earn a "Master Decorator" title. SMILEY
