You all know by now that I have a love hate relationship with Raids. When people insist on making text macros for every action they take, I start leaning more to the hate side...

EQII: Macros

Now you can go on for an hour telling me how vital these announcements are, yada yada...

I did think of sticking psudo-latin for spells on my Paladin and SK but I'll wait until they are at cap if ever. Only text Macro I have on my Monk atm is to tell people that my "Fall of the Pheonix is cast that it has a 15 minute recast (Way too long in some groups) and to hit X to stand (You'd be suprised how few people know that one.))

I guess I'm 80% with you. There are a few things that I like having macro text for, but overall yes, its just useless spam that really makes people ignore the text channels (I guess with most of the raid or group in voice it doesnt matter).

My coercer used to have a "Mezzing macro..." but when its resisted and I have to hit it again, I bite myself. So I did remove it. The only macro he uses now is for "Mana Flow" just so that when I cast it on whoever, someone else isnt begging me for it right away (something like "Mana Flow to , one minute recast".

My necro has a few, but I do feel its necessary. His macro for Lifeburn does a LOT of spam, since it goes into /say /raid /group so that any available healer can see it and try to save my life (Though the macro specficially says "Let the silly necro die"). Raidwide hearts would be his other one, just so people know to be in range to get theirs, or so other necro's know that my raidwide cast will now be down for 10 minutes.

Short duration buffs I would agree with. My templar has Sanctuary macro'd just so the group knows that its up and they are immune to most effects for that time.

I know of one mage who has a /say and /group text macro attached to every spell he uses.  It drives me absolutely batty in raids.  It makes me sad that I had to put him on ignore, but I didn't want to hurt his feelings by telling him that he has way too many macros.

hehe .. my fav macro I have seen someone use is "I'm pushing a macro!"

As far as Rays  ... It does not lower DPS. It is actually a decent DPS spell IF the caster has it at Master level. You also want a macro to give them group about 5sec warning BEFORE you cast it. ... even knowing all this I still hate the spell. It messes me up because then I have to pick up my casting order again which may have changed significantly because of that slow spell !

The only macro I have is my Hate transfer spell, and I only keep it because half the time the Tank still asks me if I put it on him/her.... Plus it is in say, in charactor, and if everything goes right only cast once so it is not too bad.

And again... I DO know there is a time and place for these text macros, really I do; about one in ten is useful and important to me.

I have a question though... is quoting Dark Helmet for my hate transfer macro a bad thing? SMILEY

Now, my husband does have a special macro for his lifeburn.  He'll /r "Krintek is casting Lifeburn, duck and cover!"

Which also has a /t Aeviel "Love! Love! Heal me!!"  Having him send that to me in a tell gets my attention with the little tell "pop" noise and he is usually the only necro that survives his Lifeburns.  I am a professional necromancer healing warden, don't ya know.

So sending me (a healer) a tell when attached to certain macros is not a bad thing in my eyes, as the text color and noise gets my attention through everything else going on.

I'll admit I have some messege macros myself but only for my mez spell which simply states that I am mezing a particular target, and my maestro buff which lets the nukers do their thing and gives the tank types a clue  to get ready for the sudden burst of dmg.

*shudder at thought of rays*

Although yes it does have the ability to add decent DPS, I really would rather keep my perpetuality running and not have a crucial mana flow cancelled or some other massacre to my casting order.

The worst thing about it, is when you ask someone not to cast it in a raid, and they mouth off about how it increases their parse so too bad...*insert kick jerk from raid macro here*

I guess I just dont see where the thought process was in creating a spell that allows one group member to completely destroy the casting and spell order for everyone else, without any notification...

/end rant

I am sorry I don't even raid and I know if you do something that hurts the overall Raid DPS/Survivablity even after being asked not to... you SHOULD be kicked.
