good grief this is rough. im sure theres a strategy but what the groups ive been in are finding is the torch guys are being unable to see the books that spawn in order to torchburn them. their graphics are up and their computers are good enough for the game but a group on saturday and now a group today / sunday its been the same. tank tanking, healers healing, and the 2 torch guys saying 'we cant see anything'. did i just get two different no good pickup groups? or have other folks had difficulty / inability to see the books spawn?

tried 6 times saturday and 4 so far sunday. for the 3rd and 4th try sunday we've attempted pulling codexicon off the platform towards the door so that the platform would be freer for the torchbearers but still not having success. im sure we're doing something wrong/not doing something right but its aggrivating. if we die because we arent good enough its one thing but for some reason several different players are saying the books aren't rendering or appearing visible to them, and it doesnt seem fair if the instance isnt working as intended.

any ideas or tips on how to get the darn things visible?

I'm not going to disagree it's rough, but my group lastnight did it with only 2 torches... only 3 could seem to get torches, I went ld and couldn't get another torch so we only had 2 left. MY suggestion really is those that have torches should be caster types and non healers. (note: you can hand the torches to other folks to make it more ideal) Their first and ONLY job is click the books RIGHT AWAY, don't care what they think they were doing click books. I was able to get 2 books a cycle.. (not recomended to have to do 2 books a cycle but we didn't have a choice) soo it is possible if your start right away. Also the books/scrolls/papers all spawn in the center hexigon or pentigon or whatever shape it is.

Also handy to have a Swashy on burning duty.  If he sees that all the burns aren't going to happen at one of the points, he can pop his AE avoid for everyone and save the day.

Also try stunning him at each 20%. We were able to make it so he only spawned books twice the whole fight.

I didn't think it was POSSIBLE to get more than two torches. I've only done it three times, but every time we've done it once one person has clicked a torch, it's no longer clicky for them (or anyone else). So we've only been able to get two every time.

I think the OP got two "no good" pick up groups. 2 of 3 of my runs have been in pick up groups. We didn't get him right away, but we always got him, and the two people on books had no problems seeing them. I've always tanked, and tanked up against the side wall, so I've never seen any of the book/page spawns myself.

Two people (Casters or Rangers) have torches and stand back to back in the middle with each covering 180 degrees. Tank over on the side of the room. Stun/stifle as he starts nearing 80/60/40/20. Easy mob if you have people with eyes and that can use a mouse.

im the templar,  so im off at the bottom of the steps with the tank doing my thing. i've been trying to use sanctuary even round 80% when he mumbo-jumbo the folks contributing before the aoe but it seems to burn us right thru sanctuary. i am not close enough or have enough excess time to see the books either. im too busy doing my heals/debuff and watching for rez's on the torchbearers. think we had me (temp), SK, monk, assasin, wizard and illusionist the sunday wipe fest. im still working off the 4.8 xp debt as we speak. im lvl 79 and about 87% towards 80 and it'll take me most of monday to get the debt removed lol. maybe we didnt have the optimal group. seems a Dirge and even a necro with lifeburn would be in handy for this. will have to keep plugging i just posted this due to every torch guy claiming to not see anything. guess i need to go with guild members as opposed to strangers. the SK was spot on at least with the tanking.

The optimial group is 2-4 folks with a clue how to click books, other then that it's really a spank and tank mob.. Seriously clicking the books (unless you can avoid them all together) is what is needed and it has to be first priority overtop all other actions. Although I will say IT seems that the more booksyou get clicked the less painful the smackdown is. Granted that's just observation not really any act or real numbers run through it.

Also on getting torches, I THINK, i can be wrong, but I THINK that once the encounter starts your SOL getting more torches. Lastnight we only got 3 torches..

We've never gotten more than 2 torches, and we've not had any issues following the script after the change from 5 to 7 seconds for the burn process.

We did manage to get ourselves killed last night trying to do a flat burn from 60 to 0 based on a Swashy AE block at 60.  We died at about 17%, sadly.  We followed the script the next time with no problems.

I have killed this mob several times and the feedback in this thread is all very good.  Basically from what we found, as mentioned above, is that at 80, 60, 40, and 20% he will spam a emote that tells you its time to start clicking books.  We found that doing a total stop on dps helps clickers have more time before the aoe goes off.  We believe that the time between the aoe and emote is dps based.  IE emote at 80 aoe at 78ish.  This is NOT confirmed however.  Also he has a small short range aoe, so it helps for the group to stand apart from each other so people are not taking multiple hits from it.  5-10 meters should be fine, the range is VERY small from what we saw.  Stunning the mob through the aoe is possible and we have been successfull with no torches and a swash and chanter.  The aoe is mitigated based on how many books are burned.  We found that for our group if we get two books well live through the aoe.  For other groups this magic number could go up to 3 or down to 1 based on gear.  I also solo heal every TSO zone I do, but I do NOT believe having another healer will help.  Most TSO zones seemed based on teamwork and doing scripts, rather than raw dps or healing.  I have never been on a group that was able to get more than 2 torches and if you did you must have hads a bugged zone somehow.  Also IMO there needs to be a way to recover the torches in the event of a LD.  One torch user sucks.

Just a hunch, but I'm guessing if anyone gets more than 2 torchbearers in the group its a bug and unintentional. Not thinking they'll be likely to complain, but I don't think it's intended.

EDIT: No longer a hunch. You should never have more than 2 torches.
