Trying to do the quest a small sampling, and when i get lureclaw and gulp to spawn, i can't kill him, because he keeps breaking the encounter.   If I stand there just auto attacking, i never take any damage because it wont stay in combat long enough.  I have tried exiting and reentering, relogging, and i've even got all the other samples, but that one.

I have gotten all the other rock samples, but this one.  I feel i'm doing something wrong, but can't find anything to say what.

fish can't attack out of water. Since it is linked, go underwater.

The problem is that Gulp keeps getting stuck under the geometry so you cannot pull him, and he continues to break the encounter because he's essentially under the world. There's no way to kill him like this unless you manage to one-shot him, because he keeps breaking the encounter and resetting.

My guildies and I have recently encountered this problem as well, when several of us decided we'd do Bloodlines for the Vampire Master Strike.

thanks, i do remember seeing gulp in the floor.  To the previous poster, please credit me with enough intelligence to have at least once been underwater the multitude of times I tried to kill him, before I posted here.  If only to reduce the insulting posts.

I even tried standing right next to him, and hitting lureclaw, since all the writeups say kill him first. Unfortunately I do not have theability to oneshot him, so my toons will be stuck on that step until much higher level.  Was mentored down to get aa.

Will somebody fix this?  I know its old content, but with 60 aa's to get, and the bonuses to mentoring xp, your gonna find alot of folks doing bloodlines mentored down, to get max aa out of it.  Especially with all the vampires in some of the raid zones.  you made it theway to get vampire master strike, so be assured that people will be trying to kill it.  Heck unless you have a wizzie along, its hard to one shot him.

Forgive me for offering a solution.

It wasn't a solution.  It's definitely a bug.

Had the same problem with Gulp getting stuck in the geometry in "Missing Scouts".   I zoned out to reset the mobs, then went back in and killed the mobs that spawn Lureclaw and Gulp.    Then I made a point of getting right up above Gulp before attacking him, just in the hope that having to come up to me would keep him from getting stuck in the floor.

I don't know if it made a difference, but it did work.  Then Lureclaw chased us around some before we managed to kill him too.

Hope that helps.

I just did this the other day.

I dont remember which, but I basically had to one-shot the small fish.  Once that happened, the goblin? agro'ed me and didn't break.

I'd advise unmentoring from this, and use a large nuke or miracle just so that you can end the frustration.

Yup, my group has been having this exact same problem.  We reset the zone 3 times and killed everything to make Lureclaw and Gulp spawn, and the instant we attacked Gulp, he dove down into the world and got stuck, breaking the encounter each time.  Will try getting above him, as suggested above to see if this helps.

I wouldn't take it as an insult. You'd be surprised how many people post on the forums and they 'forget' things or never encountered something like the issue they are posting about. So people offer solutions, trying to be helpful. Sometimes, the OP didn't say exactly what had been tried before they made the post. So people will offer very basic suggestions on the off-chance the OP didn't try that yet. They might be a new player and honestly didn't think about trying something a certain way until someone recommends it. Honestly, I have offered the most BASIC suggestions (which seem like common sense) to posts in the past and the OP will say, "Oh! Thanks! I didn't think of that! It's working now!".

I've been playing this game since beta and I myself have had an 'Oh my gosh! Why didn't I think of that??' and the occasional 'I can't believe I forgot that!' moment every once in a while.

So the person offered a solution. You could have just said 'I tried that, it is a bug but thanks for the suggestion'. From what I read, the other poster didn't insult you, s/he merely offered some help that might enable you to complete the quest instead of waiting for the bug to be fixed. It's not like s/he said 'Listen here you $%(*&%# [Removed for Content]! Go in the water! DUUUUUH!".

So, yes, it looks like you have found a bug. All you can do at this point is post here (which you did) and /bug it. You can submit a /petition as well but with an actual bug, the GM's usually just send a canned response and advise you to /bug it. You might get lucky and get a different /petition response so it is always worth a shot.

My third time to post this today lol. I had this over the weekend. I petitioned it and GM's creditted me with the step while I was offline. It appears to be something they know about, though it may depend who you get I guess.

It was a possible solution, based on what was posted in the OP.

If people arn't going to post full information when they have an issue, they really shouldn't get upset when people ask if they tried the most obvious things...

I had the same problem...except when I petitioned, a GM told me they weren't allowed to auto-grant the step in the quest. However, someone in general chat told me about one-shotting the fish and we tried it...Actually we had a guildie kill the fish in two or three shots, just killing faster than the game could regen the mob. Worked like a charm and I sent a response to the GM letting him know in case someone else sent in a petition with the same issue.

I made a post a few days ago about this, and I got an answer from one of the GM's, and they will be fixing this in the next patch coming up. Also, what we wdid to get around this, is bring in a lvl 80, and one shot Gulp. We just slayed the head vampire T'Haen and am enjoying the last few parts of the Bloodline Chronicles. This is a great adventure pack/questline if you can get around these bugs.
