Well I'm having a bit of a problem,Prior to todays patch, had no problems running the game whatsoever. I am able to run the patcher fine, all files are up to date, and I've even run the full file scans and no dice. The patcher is running fine but after its done updating, I click on Play to start the game and I get a window popping up saying EQ2 Client Application has stopped working. I am running Vista, have made sure there isn't any firewall problems and have been running in admin and whatnot, and still cannot get the game to load up past the patcher. Anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing this, or a solution?Let me know if theres any more information I can provide, and thanks in advance.

Make sure you power cycle your modem/router, then try the following. 1. Run the Task Scheduler. (Windows Key, type task scheduler and hit enter) 2. In the left window pane make sure "Task Scheduler Library" is selected. 3. in the Actions pane, click "create task." 4. In the general tab, in the name field type EQ2 5. Make sure the "Run with highest privileges" box is checked. 6. Go to the Actions tab and click the "New..." button. 7. In the "Program/script:" field, use the browse button to locate and select the EQ2.exe file 8. In the "Start in (optional):" field type in the full path to your EverQuest 2 folder. For example: c:program filessonyEverQuest II 9. Click OK when you are finished and then close the Task Scheduler. 10. Right Click on your desktop and select New>Shortcut 11. In the "Type the location of the item:" field enter the following line schtasks /run /tn "EQ2" 12. Click Next and enter EQ2 in the name field then click finish.Once you do that you can go to the properties of your new shortcut and change the icon by clicking the "change Icon..." button and pointing to the EQ2.ico file in your Everquest 2 directory. Now just use your new Shortcut.

I have the same problem as Sargan...everything hunky-dory until update, then EQ crashes when selecting a character...ran the task scheduler as Trevor outlined, the program launches, then get the error msg "EQ client has stopped working". Also running Vista, 64 bit

Make sure you add EQ2.exe and Everquest2.exe to your firewalls allowed list as well, and power-cycle your modem/router.

I'm having the same problem here. I was playing the game fine on Monday night just fine. Today (Tuesday) June 17, 2008 after the login in, the patch ran. I get the message that EQII client has stopped working. This happen after I log in and click on play so the actual login seems to work. I have run the scan several times. I have also preformed your instructions that you have posted here. Nothing works I still get the same error. I'm also Running vista.Thank you,

right, its no doubt a problem with the EQ2 program itself, patcher loads up, download/updates fine, but when you hit that play button, the main game does not load up from that point, and you get the EQ2 Client application has stopped working window.Someone mentioned it but I also have vista 64, but I don't think that should be the problem with this either

I am having the exact same problem, I also run Vista 64, and have tried everything in these 2 threads. I have also gone as far as removing the anti virus software from my computer and still cannot log into the game. I also have a dual boot with Windows XP 32 and it will continue to crash after patching. I have also tried a full file scan still nothing. I am out of options. Vondrack 80 Guardian

ok, i've been tinkering with things, and while I have not gotten it to work yet, I've noticed something else. This problem is mostly related to clicking play as stated after the patcher finishes, and when the patcher starts up Everquest2.exe - here is where it crashes, for some reason the newest everquest2.exe has the problem. I reinstalled eq2 last night, and soon as I did, I tried opening everquest2.exe alone, and by skipping the patcher the game loaded (although this doesn't do me much good because the game is still pretty worthless unpatched.) So after patching overnight, it has brought me right back to the same problem as before, everquest2.exe is back to being broken. fresh install everquest2.exe 'working' and patched everquest2.exe not working makes me think theres a problem with the file that was put in the patch yesterday for at least some users.

![]() I have this very same problem. I logged on with absolutely no problems 1 hour prior to the patch. After the patch im getting a "EQ2 Client Application has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience" everytime i press the play button. The info in the error box is pretty much the same wall of text Sargan got. Tried deleting all the usual ui and cache folders and the ini files and the everquest.exe but its not helping. Im not using a firewall. |

![]() I started getting this error as well after I downloaded the patch yesterday. I am running XP so I don't think it is an os problem. I had run the eq2mapping updater prior to trying to play yesterday. I had also started downloading Vanguard. I uninstalled map updater and ran a full file scan. The patcher works fine, but when I press play I get the error. Oh, I also turned off my anti-virus and firewall. I was going to try and reinstall the game, but it sounds like that's been tried and wasn't helpful. |

![]() Almost everyone reporting the issue in this thread seems to be running Windows Vista. From the sound of it, it seems like Vista is blocking the download or your UI became incompatible with the game after a few UI files changed with the patch. Please follow the steps below to see if they correct the problem. Sometimes the Windows Vista security software can interfere with the patching progress of our games. In this situation, it might be Windows UAC (User Account Control) that is not allowing the game to patch correctly. For the purposes of security, you will only want this feature disabled for the purposes of patching and should re-enable it after the issue has been resolved. Type msconfig in the search box on the Start Menu and press enter on your keyboard. 2. Click the tools tab in the System Configuration box. 3. Scroll down the list and highlight ‘Disable UAC' then click Launch. 4. Restart your computer. 5. Run the patcher. You can enable UAC by following the steps above but highlight ‘Enable UAC' You may want to delete the following files and folders:cache foldereq2_recent.inieq2_default.iniEverQuest2.exee q2.ini As well as the character specific files, these will appear as such:Servername_CharacterName_EQ2_uisettings.iniSt ationname_characters.ini To do this, please follow these directions: 1. First look for your EverQuest II directory. You can find the directory in the default directory:2. Click on MY COMPUTERC Thanks

I've already done what you suggested TSR-DanielH, I have tried loading up without UAC, as admin, I have removed and replaced the files from my exceptions list w/ windows firewall, and after doing all that, I have run a fresh install from discs, and repatched. As with an earlier post of mine, I have tried running everquest2.exe with a fresh install as well, and it loaded up (although it loaded i didn't do much else since I can't very well play on an out of date game file) after doing this, I repatched the entire game. once all files were updated was when everquest2.exe failed to run (via patcher and straight from the directory.) I suspect that there isn't a problem with the file running on vista, being that the same exact program, although earlier version, ran with no problems, and the most updated version did not. What else can be done to resolve this problem? And what other information could I possibly provide to help things here. Many others, and myself, been stuck out of game for a couple days now... Its time to fix the problem imo

![]() My husband was having this EXACT same problem as several of you have posted since the last patch. Everytime he hit play the game would say it stopped working. This is what we did to fix the problem: Go to your Everquest II folder (The main one found under the Sony folder) Right click on the folder and click on properties. UNCHECK the read-only square. Click ok to have it change for all subfolders and files. This worked for us and I hope it does for you too =) |

This is definately a possibility and people suffering from this error should check on that setting. If you installed the game to the /program files/ directory in vista then theres a high probability that it got set to read only at some point. If you installed the game to an alternate folder like /games/, then it is much less likely.

![]() What is strange is that now when I recheck the folder it is reset back to 'read-only' however his game continues to start up and run smoothly. My suspicion is that there was perhaps 1 file or 1 folder inside the Everquest II folder that was incorrectly set to read-only somehow from this latest patch. |

Well, I've tried all the ideas here, and sadly nothing has helped. I'm now trying a clean install of the game from discs. It will take some time to download all the updates but I'll let you know how it works out. I was sure hoping Lacey's fix worked but it didn't. I thought maybe eq2mapper was the culprit, but I guess that would have been too easy. Again, I'm on XP...so not a Vista issue. Looks like about 5 hours of patching ahead. I've got my fingers crossed.

Thanks for the info, I tried this hoping it would work but unfortunately hasn't changed anything. Still getting same error as before when starting up. Has this worked for anyone else who's had problems here?

Well I think I've just about reached my limit here. I'm reinstalling the game one more time. I've tried everything thats been posted here from the start. I've stated several possibilities of what could be causing the problem. This is the last time I think I'll be trying to get this working again. The game has not been working for several people for days now. I do not know what is causing it, but from what I can tell it does not seem to be vista, as XP users are having the same problem. I've tried deleting files and whatnot and none have worked. Games don't typically just work one day then stop the next unless something was added to make it stop working, this latest patch has done this. The tech support here, while I do appreciate what you all do, I think this issue has been slipped up on. The only thing that has been posted here has been a bunch of 'possible' solutions that normally would only work for someone having problems running a program for the first time. If it worked fine before and nothing changed, other than what was patched in, my settings aren't wrong, its the files. Instead of even trying to communicate the possibility that there COULD be a problem or that the possibilty of a bad file is being looked into- you've given more roundabout solutions. I'm very sorry for ranting in this fashion, I'm not normally one to do this sort of thing, but this is taking way too long and absolutely no progress has been made.

![]() I hear ya Sargan. I'm completely bewildered. I did a fresh install and still can't get the client to work. I've been playing since launch and haven't had any problems until this week. I'm running out of ideas. It's strange that there are only a couple of us with this issue though isn't it. I can get in to vanguard just fine. I might try a fresh install on a formatted hard drive just for the heck of it, but I think this will be a waste of my time. By the way, my crash log looks pretty much identical to Palervon's if that means anything. I can't imagine what changed to cause this error, or why it is affecting the select few of us. I'm open to any and all suggestions. |

So i have exhausted all of my options like most people in this post. It is blatantly not a UAC / Firewall problem. I also think we are all running 64 bit vista im not sure but i believe that most of us with this problem are. The thing that I found weird was, since i Run a dual boot system I was able 2 copy all my files to the XP version of my system and i still got the same error so it leads to to believe that something does not patch right for the Vista 64 system, causing it to fail. So now i cant play EQ on my new 2,000 dollar rig but i can play it on my old one worth about 200 bucks. Either way if there is no fix for this anytime soon whats the point in playing.Vondrack 80 Guardian

Sorry to hear you have the same problem Knox. It is NOT a Vista issue. I am on XP. I can't understand with a complete fresh install how I am still getting this issue. I wish I could download all the updates prior to the latest patch and see if I could play then. I have to think something in Tuesdays patch fubared my game and I'm bummin'.
