How long would it take to update this game from scratch?I started updating it this morning and the EST was roughly 13 hours or so. Just recently the time was due to end on the update, and the progress bar is totally full, but the EST all of the sudden jumped up to 14 hours EST now. Is it really going to take that much longer? The progress bar is still completely full.

Aprox 6-8 hours on my 10meg. The status bar is broken, ignore this - coded awfully.Additionaly the main EQ2 directory should end up at around 9.45 GB assuming you went for everything and all ex packs. Use that as a better time estimation.

If it seems to be hung on one file, stop it and restart (don't worry, you're not starting over from scratch!).  but mostly hang in there.

If its been on the go for 13 hours and restarting it has yelded no effect on that figure.... I would be inclined to eliminate the firewall.

I'm dealing with this exact same thing it seems right now. SMILEY

I had thought that by buying the game in the store rather than downloading the whole thing on the internet it would have made this much faster for me. I played the trial before on another computer--which I used the internet download--and right now I'm not noticing much of a difference in the download times. I installed all 3 disks and double-clicked the EQII icon only to find out that more updating needs to be downloaded before I can log in. Right now it is estimating to me that I have another 46 hours to wait, but it keeps jumping around a lot; I've seen it as high as the 300s and as low as the 30s.

I'm not really thrilled about all the downloading right now, I'm really anxious to see the game on what is a much better computer than I had before. However, if I really have to wait 2 full days of downloading to play, I think I might be done before I even start lol. Now, if I go into my hard-drive, program files, and the Sony directory to where the EQII folder is, it says it has 8.91 GB in it right now. Am I looking in the right spot in regards to what you folks are talking about here? If I'm understanding what you guys are saying correctly, then I should have less than 1 GB left to download before I can play?

Anybody that consistently has download problems should contact their ISP and ask if they enforce any sort of "bandwidth throttling". This is common on many basic DSL and Cable plans and when you hit your max for the month they typically knock your download rate down considerably until your next statement cycle.I've reinstalled EQ2 from scratch (on a wiped hard drive) a couple times over the past twelve months and it has never taken more than a couple of hours for me. But, when I installed it at a friend's house it went on 10 hours with several restarts before he called and upgraded his internet package. After he did that, it finished downloading and installing 15 minutes later.

My friend has ATT.  Modem resets aren't uncommon because of this throttling business!

AT&T is the only ISP in my area, so you think that could be the issue? By the way, it's down to just over 9 hours now (took another insane jump recently lol at least it was down instead of up). What you're saying does kind of make sense though, I think I'll have to look into that. At this point though, I just want it to finish so I can check things out. I've been an EQoA player since it came out, and after almost 5 years playing that game, I have a lot of getting used to as far as PC gaming is concerned. The whole mouse/keyboard thing doesn't come all that natural to me lol.

I talked to my ISP and found out there's actually a problem in my internet line and they're going to fix it. When I asked about bandwidth throttling no one seemed to know what I was talking about lol. Anyway, hopefully that fixes my connection problems. On a happier note, the game has finally installed completely and I get to play! SMILEY

EDIT: By the way, that other station launcher won't work on my computer for some reason lol; I the thing with the standard EQII launcher.

Good luck with the ISP.  We had a trouble ticket into our ISP since Oct 31 that took until late December to get anyone who knew more than "plug your computer directly into the modem" to admit there was something wrong (too many subscribers on our hub), and we still had to wait a month for a load balancing.Of course, we also got about 2 months worth of credit once we got someone who knew what they were doing!

I have just encountered the same problem, though I had already downloaded for 30 hours and now need 34 hours more.

I think this is UNACCEPTABLE!  3 days without a firewall or Virusprotection (advised by Sony before starting the dl)  is absurd in this day and age.

The problem lies with Sony. ANY other download I tried went 10x faster, so its not an isp throttle.

Had I know before, I would have bought the game at the store.

Is the game package downloadable from another source?

Once again.. if that were true then everybody would be having the same problem. Not just some people. If you do the math it makes sense that there is something between you and SOE's download server that's causing your problem. SOE --> Internet Routing ---> ISP --> AV/Firewall ---> ComputerFollow the map.. its easy to point fingers. But, that's like blaming my electric company because my house is so cold in the winter. I did every test I could come up with and no point on the route gives a problem, and like I said: other downloads I tested gave the normal good result.

The download from Sony is very steady, but at the same time, very low in speed. Its an obvious squeeze in bandwith, which is appalling considering the money I've paid for it.

I had the same problem all you guys are having.  I finally got the game to work by downloading the new Beta station thing and downloading it from there.  Took about 6 hours to download completely.

All I can say is this game is far and long worth the wait to download. I've had nothing but fun playing this game so far.

I wholeheartedly agree!!I did have a rather lengthy download but not more than about 2-3 hours.  I must agree with Spyder that if it were only the fault of Sony that we would all be having day-long downloading times.  I live in a very urban area and have excellent internet coverage, so this may be a factor in my relatively painless download. Once you fire the game up and get immersed in the beautiful graphics, all the downloading hassel will become totally worth it.  If you haven't already tried it, the tech support forum also usually has some great advice by computer savvy folks and moderators as well.
