Title basically. Forgive me if this is in a manual or something , I just DL'd the game and have no instuctions. Every time i lock this option then either ALT+TAB , ALT+ESC out I go right into windowed mode and it really bugs me.

Thanks for any help!

I'm not at home to try it but..

Doesn't pressing the windows start menu button minimize the game.  Then when you select it again, it goes back to it's full screen mode.

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding the question, but I usually minimize the game with Alt+Tab.  When I go back to the game, it's in windows mode, but pressing Alt+Enter will switch me back into full-screen mode.

the best way is to play in windowed mode, and to keep the everquest window maximized.  By doing this you will see the windows title bar across the top of your game, but there will be no other differences.  Also, by doing this you will be able to alt tab between programs without the game-screen pauses and reloads.

Sidenote: Since the EQ2 release I always have problems with moving UI-elements when switching on desktop and back. The message window moves to the left and open bag windows move arbitrary up and down some pixels (I have to move those windows back after every switch). Am I the only one with this problem (standard UI)?

No. This has been an issue for quite some time now. Best way to work around it is to use the /load_uisettings command right after going back to full screen as it will load your setting back to the way they were right before leaving full screen. If however you have zoned while in windowed mode then the setting might end up saving to the new positions. In this case I usually keep a backup copy of my custom settings under another name (x-server_character_eq2_uisettings.ini) and load that one instead. You can make copies of your uisettings by either manually doing so via windows explorer or using the /save_uisettings command and including the name afterwards, such as:/save_uisettings x-server_character_eq2_uisettings.iniUsing the /load_uisettings command will bring up a window where you can pick that file from a list if you so choose or pick any other settings ini file as desired.

I tried this solution once many months ago but as a result the chat window fontsize was reseted when using the load command (I use a very large fontsize for best legibility). But I will try it again in the next time, maybe they fixed that.

Unless you use Vista and EQ2 has been patched with Vista in mind.Otherwise, leaving it in windowed mode, even maximized, results eventually in a spectacular crash because Vista tends to be sort of bad at windowed mode games.

I've also read, though not entirely certain of what the context it applies to is, that a game in windowed mode will not take full advantage of the 3d hardware acceleration capabilities of your video card.  So for older computers that might have a slower processor, windowed mode means heavier CPU usage and more likely to cause a performance bottleneck there, rather than having the video card (which could be more up-to-date), do most of the work for the video in the game. However, it's easy enough if you get into windowed mode to just switch back to full screen in the game options (though if alt+enter to go to full screen works too, that's even easier).

This happens to me as well and is one of my biggest gripes with the game.  Everytime I go to windowed mode and then back again my very neat and orderly arrangement of bags and bank boxes gets all out of what and then I have to unlock them all, move them back into the desired position and then re-lock them.  It's a major PITA.  Also my target windows shift noticeably as well.  Very annoying SOE.
