Hello all,I got my aftershock skill a couple of days ago, and I have to admit, I'm very underwhelmed. It hardly ever goes off and I feel like a sucker for putting all those AA's into it, does anyone else feel the same way? Would I be better off respeccing and putting those points to better use? Thanks

You say you feel like a sucker for putting so many points into "it." Do you mean the Explosives line, because Aftershocks itself only costs 1 AA point?

Without question, Explosives is one of the two best lines in the EoF trees for improving warlocks' dps (along with Hastenings).

I didn't check your level, but the increase in damage from the Explosives line alone merits investing at least twenty points into it, without even considering Aftershocks.

But to answer your question specifically, Aftershocks has never been a major source of dps, usually counting for about 1-2% of zonewide raid parses.

The question becomes, then, not whether the explosives line is any good, but whether it is worth the 1 AA point to increase your zonewide dps by 1-2%. I decided it was.

While the Explosives and Hastenings end-line abilities might be kind of bleh, the paths leading to them are highly rewarding.

Propagations is the exact opposite in that it requires you to spend twenty points on AA upgrades that are largely useless to the warlock along the way to receiving one of the best end-line abilities in the game.

You can't expect to have your cake and eat it too, I suppose.

Aftershocks proc very consistently for me.  They aren't meant to be like another nuke, in terms of damage, they are just a nice little boost that can stack on top of your spells, and then stack on top of themselves, sometimes, too.

Aftershock only procs off Explosive spells, which are your AEs.  Most people don't cast their AEs too often on single target fights, which is why you will see a lack of procs from it.

I have to say since I have had Aftershocks I love to watch it proc. Take into consideration it is basically a certain percent chance that it will go off. I for one use my Explosion line spells constantly as the Absolution types have a very quick recast and is one of the highest damage spells we have.

With Explosions line, Hastenings line for Focused casting, and Str/Wis sorc AA's, soloing is near a breeze, and I have had a number of close calls go in my favor due to aftershocks. Give it a chance =) May find ye like it after all.

Ehhh, for the most part, Im not really an AS fan. The line is pretty good. As a bare minimum. I'll have 3 in the blue dot, 5 in the weak green nuke, 5 in the big green nuke and 5 in Apoc. That's only 18 AA's, and the truth is that putting 5 in the weak green nuke is optional as well. I dont usually put anything in Rift unless I'm actually going for AS. Rift recieves the biggest benefits from AAs, but I hardly ever cast it. If Rift didnt consume one of those stupid things, then maybe I would. I just dont like having to farm for those things. Sorry, I forgot the name of it.

If thats why you dont use Rift then you are missing out on a couple other really good spells that also use the crystals

IMO Rift is a useless spell in the new expansion. Almost none of the raid encounters are linked mobs and I feel its a waste of points and casting time to even use.

^ Rift isn't uselss. It's our green spells that are now useless.Sure, there are less AoE situations calling for either green or blue. But blue is better than green atm.....

I like Aftershock. It adds a nice bit of DPS and as one other poster noted, I think the line leading up to it is worthwhile. Then again, I play on Venekor and in PvP I use a LOT of AEs, even on solos. Focused Casting + Freehand Sorcery+enhanced Rift+Aftershock does some nasty damage on pesky scouts trying to perforate you. Naturally it's a lot more fun when you're blasting a group; PvP is great because agro management is pretty much not a factor, so Warlocks really have a blast.
