I bought two new expansions today and installed one on my main pc and noticed it was a huge 6 hour patch download so I didn't install it on my secondary PC.  I just upgraded my account info with the RoK key and have been playing fine, in RoK as a new Sarnak, with my secondary PC while my main pc is still patching.  I don't understand this at all.

I'm starting to wonder if we need to install RoK (all in one retail box) at all.  And if that is the case, why waste all our time when we could have just "unlocked" the game and charge it on our CC>

There is no need to install from the disks at all. RoK is a mandatory patch regardless if you bought the expansion or not. In fact, its usually best if you don'y install from the disks, as you will have a bigger patch.
