After watching my activity light slow down to a few blurbs every few seconds.  Cancelling Download and Restarted only to have a few files zip through then slow down all over again, I decided to use Station Launcher (beta) to do the download.

Instead of 4 to 27 hours... Station Launcher (beta) is Ripping the files w/o pausing. 1 hour 20 was highest and currently sitting at 21 minutes left.

Not as fast as copying beta files since I wasn't in beta.  But faster than EQ2's Launchpad.

Some people are saying that they aren't actually able to play after downloading it so be careful.  I'm using it too since it only said it needed 30 min.  If it doesn't work, back in line for me.

And where is this handy thing?

Because it's getting somewhat frustrating seeing my download go from 19 minutes to over an hour in the space of about 30 minutes.

(And it's only getting worse! Agh! It's stuck on the timorous deep vpk file...so close, yet soooooooooooo far and getting farther with each passing second!)

Yup, didn't do the trick for me. It downloaded for an hour and a half, then gave me the all clear. After starting I got the old Echoes startup screen back and a message stating my login was rejected because the client application didn't match the server apllication.Back to the old launcher for me.

Yuck! I found it and started using it, too.

Tell us if it at least downloaded the files properly and allowed you to sit at the "ready, but can't play till servers are up" phase at least!

Stop using it.  I swear I think it made things worse.

I stopped.I noticed that I had to download some files I'd already downloaded after I stopped it. (Once again I'm stuck on timorous deep vpk. Ah, the agony of frozen progress bar and creeping-ever-upward ETA timer! I swear that the yellow bar is going to start going backward soon at this rate!)

I think the fine folk who watch these forums professionally ought to pass on this information to the devs and the Station folk -- this is an excellent test of the new beta patcher, and it doesn't seem to have succeeded.

If they can make the changes to it right NOW, they might get more people testing it while this huge patch/update/expansion stuff is happening and thus get more useful feedback!

(I'll have to find those Launcher forums I saw noted on the download page and maybe poke my head in over there.)

I tried using the EQ2 launcher that I copied from live inside my beta folder. The download was a mere 2 minutes and I got to the screen where all my characters in live were listed and the "server is down" message prinited under each characters name SMILEY

I agree.. I patched using the old launcher and got the new splash screen and such but of course, no servers.I then launched the beta Launcher and it downloaded 1:30 worth of updates only to go BACK to the Faydwar splash screens and the error about the game client being out of version.I believe they have yet to update the beta Launcher with the RoK files SMILEYUpdating again on the old launcher and sticking to THAT for now

Ah, yes, I got through a lot of the file crunching by using beta files, but I hadn't updated/patched for a couple of days, and thus the timorous deep vpk became a huge obstacle for several hours since my version was still not the right version.

It seems that there's now a new obstacle right now, but hopefully it will be the last of them. (Goodness, if I knew I had more than two vpks that needed babying like this, I think I'd just go read something for a few hours. More productive...but I really wanna be ready to play. Hehe. Now I'm watching it go from 1 minute to over 2 minutes (and it's been going up for about 7 minutes now) on the jungle vpk that comes after the timorous deep one. At least the bar is inching forward every couple of minutes, though, or I'd be stopping and starting the download yet again. (It's weird how that's randomly effective often enough for me to keep trying the start-and-stop method!)

how the F......... does it go from 16 hrs, to 17, to 18, to 19? it was actually 11 a bit ago but i followed some SOE hints and tips on how to increase download speed by shutting down a bunch of background programs and restarting the computer.  thats the last time i try some hints and tricks from soe haha.  its the 3rd expansion - youd think by now the process would be streamlined a tiny little bit.  bah humbug!

I got the exact opposite, was using the new launcher and was saying I had 1 hour to download (this after using beta files) used the old EQ2 launcher it was done in 5 minutes.

The problem I'm having now is the Launcher is not downloading any updates yet the old patcher is finding stuff to update.  Just if the new launcher actually told you what it was doing.

Used Station Launcher for both EQ and EQII's launch and it worked fine for both; did have the "New Update Available" on Launchday when I got home (for Station Launcher) but it looked like it had grabbed all the expansion files before then. On Launchday, once servers were up, Station Launcher got me into either game within 10 minutes (had a few extra files to patch when I finally got around to starting the games). You can get it at: http://launcher.station.sony.com/
