So, I mainly play a wizzy. But I started a SK alt. What would be the good choices for a soloing SK?Thusfar I'm finding he dies as much as my wizzy does... it's a little disconcerting. Does twinking play that much of a part?

Get reaver... then 4/4/8 int... then (personal pref) get 4/4/6/8/2 str and 4/5 sta. After that do whatever you want. You shouldn't be dying too much, in just mastercrafted gear you shouldn't have much trouble soloing blue ^^^ mobs...

From someone that soloed all way to 70, I really dont understand what issues your having. What are you fighting that your dieing so much? LiL hard to give a diagnosis without the symptoms.

As recommened already; get spell crit first then reaver. Regularly I finish a named with 5ish% health left and will jump a full group of blues just so can walk away from fight at full health.

I suspect its one of these posts where someone has just leveled until level 8 and has problems with yellow mobs while running around only in the starter and quested gear SMILEY

I just got the spell that is both a damage shield and self-heal. I haven't died yet, so it seems to be working better. Yeah, I've got a 40th wizzy, so I just annihilate most things within a few seconds. Playing any lower levels seems to be harder...

I saw someone mentioning that they use offensive with a sword/shield. What's a ballpark for mitigation that I should be looking to reach at lower levels? Does it increase a lot at the uppers?

you dont realy want to go off of a mentored guys numbers.  It never scales right.  Idealy you would like to hit 60%+ mit self buffed but that wont happen till t7.  Low to mid 50s is doing great as it will buff up when group to about the 60 mark.

Hmmm... *looks at 29% on his screen*Yep, I'll have to fork some coin over and get that up to a better level with mastercrafteds.

Spells and CA's account for most of our offense and defense.

Keep your spells and ca's upgraded to adept3 or master1 wherever possible. Practice the timing and order in which you are casting. Strive for efficiency.

You should be constantly casting w/ a little pause in between for auto attack to get through.

Here's some specific tips for soloing:

  • Hit yourself w/ Blessing before pulling.
  • Pull with your mit debuff.
  • Finish your debuffing before you start dps'ing
  • Use your HO's constantly
  • Use your long casting/long reuse/long duration dmg spells early, this way you may be able to use them again before end of fight. (pet, DoTs, Dreadful Wrath line, AE's etc)
  • You should be constantly casting w/ a little pause in between for auto attack to get through.
  • Don't tap if you are full health...save it.
  • Balance out your taps/blessing. You want to balance out your healing rather than stack it and then go without a heal for too long.
  • Stun alot. Especially before you hit a long casting ability.
  • Play with your Off/Def stance in conjunction w/ 1h/2h shield setups. Find what works best for your style and the mobs you're fighting currently. You'll wanna use diff setups for diff types of encounters.

SK's are very versatile characters. We are the kind of class where skills are truly more important than gear.

  • Focus on your button mashing mastery first.
  • Keep taps/blessing/debuffs at ad3 or better.
  • Upgrade armor when you are able, but don't obsess over it.

Do all these and you should be owning NP.

Mitigation always goes down after each level. If you go full mastercrafted you have around 50% when you can first wear it and it will go down to 42% or whatever when you're one level below the next tier.

Also keep in mind that you'll do better vs some mob types (true for any class).  My character was a late bloomer when it came to AA's.  Now that he has reaver, I find that melee oriented mobs are quite easy to blow through.  Even the blue heroic types.  But when taking on a heroic mob (solo) that melees and has nasty nukes, it can get ugly.  The night bloods in EL come to mind SMILEY  Nasty bugars.  Sometimes our blessings, taps, and reaver just can't keep up with the damage.

I've switched to sword and board, and have noticed that I can survive against tougher mobs while soloing.  I'll go offensive on the easy ones, just to get through fights quicker, but I switch to defensive when fighting the heroics.

Thanks for the info guys. Helps a lot. I forked over the loot to buy the best stuff I could find at his level... it brought me up to 53% mit, plus has some proc damage bonus to it. I think I'll be able to live with it for a while. I only have one AA so far, but it went into the right tree just by chance. SMILEY<img src=" />Edit: Logged into my SK again after a week off. Found once I accessed the heals and got set up I could tank a blue heroic, so I think I'm getting the hang of it. Is it just me or is our ability to tank based almost with the majority of importance being the amount of Power we have?
