Hello!

Map question: I'm really trying to learn the UI and finally figured out how to download the map mod which rocks! But, I'm wondering if I'm just missing something or can you not look at zones besides the one you're in? Is there a command to look at other zones or zoom out or something? If I'm looking for an area it's hard to figure out where to go especially if I can't get a big picture of where I am. I'm a 'get lost in my own house' kind of person SMILEY

Housing question: Are there any benefits to buying housing that will effect my character? Or is this purely for show and relaxation/place to get away? I'm poor as h-word so I can't afford one anyway I bet, but just wondering for later.

Mailbox/guard question: Is there a sure way to find a mailbox in game or do you pretty much have to know where it is beforehand? I found one on accident but haven't run across any others. Also, is there a secret to asking guards for directions? I tried searching for a banker but he said it doesn't exist...but I ended up finding it on accident in that same city. But he did show me where a broker was when I asked him... :scratch head:

Searching for people question: I know you can use /who to search for people but that's only for those in your zone. If I'm wanting to see what level and class Bobbyjoe is but he's not in my zone, how do I search for a general name or for a query: for instance if I want to look at who is online who is lvl 1-10? Is it like /who world or something?

Item location question: I've tried very hard to find a web site that has a reliable database that can show you where an item can be found. I tried allakhazam and wikia.eq2 or w/e but it just confuses me more because I'm not familiar with all of the zones...and since I can't figure out my map question I can't get much useful information from it. Are there any good noob sites that I can look at say if I want to find where an Elephant Tusk is but have no info on where to find it in game...D=

Any help is appreciated! I'm on Befallen server, Squeaka.

I'll try my best to help you, so here goes.I haven't found a way to look at another zone on the map yet. There probably isn't one, since I've tried everything I could think of.In regards to housing, you can get a basic inn room for free in your home city (as well as free furniture from the housing NPC, usually located right next to your house). I like furnishing my house and rearranging it over and over. It just gives me something to do when I don't feel like leveling, you know?Use "/who all" followed by your query to search across the server. And since I am also new, I haven't found an item database yet. However, if you are still looking for Elephant Tusks, ask in the 1-9 channel (default /2) where they are, people are usually helpful to newbies like us. There are elephants in the northern Commonlands, I think. SMILEY<img mce_tsrc=Also, if you have any more questions, I'd like to suggest this thread, as it really helped me.Hope I helped. :]

Housing is linked to the number of vendor items you can have, that's the only practical thing I can think of.

Each character can swear fealty to a diety, after which they are given a worship altar which goes in a house. You then use the altar to gain favor with your god, in turn gaining combat and non-combat powers.  Also, over time as new content is released, there are housing reward items (I'm thinking of the Kingdom of Sky retail box reward) offering significant in-game help (in this case, KoS retail box purchasers got a plant which can be fertilized in certain ways, in return for which quests are completed, items are offered, and achievement points are earned).

In this case, the question was supposed to be "bank" in stead of "banker" SMILEY  You can also use the waypoint UI (alt-W? ctrl-W?) to bring up common city denizens.

Searching for people question: I know you can use /who to search for people but that's only for those in your zone. You use: /who all

There are several community websites with maps of all the zones available as well as zone info such as quests, mobs, etc. I usually have a browser window open with several such resource tabs while I play for easy reference.

Your other questions were pretty much answered so I'll just poke at this one.

You can't zoom in on the map or look at other zones close up currently (they are working on a map system revamp so who knows what functionality will be added with that).

You can click over to the world map tab, which can give you a basic idea of where other zones are in relation to the one you are in.

Other than that locating on of the out of game mapping sites would be your best bet. I used to have one in my favorites but I seem to have lost it so I can't link it =(.

http://eq2.gamepressure.com/ for zone maps that you can look at outside of game. There is no way to "zoom out" on the ingame maps.

Housing question: Are there any benefits to buying housing that will effect my character? Or is this purely for show and relaxation/place to get away? I'm poor as h-word so I can't afford one anyway I bet, but just wondering for later.

You can place salesman crates in your house reducing broker fees, making it possible for you to charge more for something that someone who doesn't have one. Plus you get house vault space where you can store even more stuff. You can also buy crafting stations and place them in your house so you don't have to craft in the basement.

Mailbox/guard question: Is there a sure way to find a mailbox in game or do you pretty much have to know where it is beforehand? I found one on accident but haven't run across any others. You will generally find them on the docks in the outlying zones and near the banks and housing in cities.

Searching for people question: I know you can use /who to search for people but that's only for those in your zone. www.eq2i.com has quests/items/mobs by tier and zone. They also have excellent quest guides. You are going to have to just break down and learn your way around. It isn't that hard if you take the time to do it.

I could be wrong but I think at one point over at eq2interfaces there was a plug-in to EQ2maps that allowed live zone switching but I could be wrong.

As far as the best way to find links between zones, there is a Prima Guide outthere that is basicly an Atlas of EQ2 I beleave it is accurate though EoF but again I could be wrong.

Housing is extremely important to make a living.  Just buy the little apartment in one of the racial zones and pay the 5sp per week.  You will get two slots to sell from on the broker.  These slots can be filled with bags/boxes or sales crates that will allow you to stock all sorts of items for sale.  Ask others to identify valuable things like collectables, L&L items, treasured items etc. that people will buy.  Sell off all the other things for some quick coin.

Once you save up enough cash and personal status, you may wish to move up to a 3-room apartment or the mansions in the city.  These give you even more slots to sell from.

Welcome to Norrath!
