I like my characters to display their headgear. My main, a guardian, rarely does so since most of his helmets cover the entire head. Thus the face is unseen. The majority of guardian (zerker too, I think) helms are visored. It seems to me that a simple solution is to make those visors movable, so that they are up (exposing face) until entering combat, at which time they automatically drop into closed position in conjunction with wielding weapon and shield. Upon termination of combat the visor is automatically raised. The effect can be toggled for those who prefer a permanently hidden face. This should be easy to implement, code wise. As to added art, with few exceptions it effects only plate helms, and not all those. My guess is that each visored helm would have two models (one a modification of the other), which are swamped depending on combat mode. Besides making the face visible an open visor is more historically accurate. Full helmets were exceedingly uncomfortable and severely limited vision. Knights generally did not lower their visors until the last practical moment. (Otherwise, what's the point of having one?) What do ya think?

I think this is a great idea and would love to see it implemented.

to me this should have been an obvious feature from the start.

"This should be simple to implement." Actually, I do not think it would be.  They would have to add some new options to the code as well as make a new model for the open visor.  And then make sure that model worked for every race and gender.  Considering some of the heads (yes, i am looking at you ratongas) , it would look very bizarre.  Remember how long it took them to come out with all the profession helms.   Some of them were over a year late from when they were promised with the expansion. It is a nice idea but I think it would be a lot of work for very little benefit.  If you would like to see your character's face you can either get a helmet that isnt completely closed in or simply use the /showhelm command to hide it until you enter battle when you use /showhelm to reveal it.

I think you'll have to wait the revamp (will you wait for ever?) to see that kind of improvment =|

this is one of the major reasons why the skeletal structure revamp is going in. to make it easier/quicker to make. like ive been saying, instead of  refitting armor 36+ times they'll only have to do  it say...6 or so. that is one of the reason this r evamp is going in.

Depends on the helmet, I guess. Bucket-style helmets typically don't have visors, simply viewing-slits and some small holes so your head doesn't boil. If you have a crow's beak helmet, though, the upper part of the "beak" is generally hinged... though I imagine it must hurt something fierce if the hinge is weak or the pin is loose and it suddenly slams shut on you... not to mention loud.

It seems that open faced helms would not be more accurate for a plate fighter. But, there are many styles of helms out there in the real world. An example of open faced Plate Helms would be many of the Templar helms. It seems they think we should have that style. Take a look at the Templar helm graphics in the game and let me know if you still want the open-faced style =P You should be able to use the Dressing Room to do this now, I am not sure where you could view pics online. I would prefer the full head cover, I don't like any of the Templar helm graphics. We have one full-cover, but it is the Pally model with wings.
