New assassin here... got a fairly quick question... Is there any benefit of slashing over piercing, or should one maximize both skills as per a mobs resistance to damage type?

As you're leveling up, doesn't really matter which ones you use.  However, one thing to note, say you're using two pierce weapons, and you gain say 5 levels, and then get a new weapon that is a slashing weapon, at first when using the new weapon it will miss a lot because you're slashing skill has fallen behind.  Though, as you use the slash weapon, you'll gain back slash skill to even them out and won't be missing so much.

So, as you're leveling up it may be advantageous to have one of each, so that each skill gets leveled up, though it's not necessary by any means.  They pretty much removed mobs that are immune to certain types of physical damage.

I'd agree with what Mabes says, when it comes to leveling up. At the current end game raiding, there are a great deal more +piercing items for assassins out there than +slashing. If you're wanting to do your best at that end game, the accuracy gained from boosting +weaponskill makes a huge difference against those Epic x4's that are 74 or higher, particularly in EoF raid zones where they seem to have higher defensive skills than Mobs of the same level in KoS. So..I'd say, on the whole, focus on piercing if T7 raiding is your thing. That said, there are some rather nice slashing weapons out there too, but I don't see how I could possibly get my +slashing as high as my +piercing, the items just aren't out there

Not really.  In EOF its half and half.  In KOS it's mostly piercing.  Some of the best weapons in the game: Piercing: SoD reward dagger Grinning dirk of horror Rapier of darkness --> Dagger of purity ((? not sure on this one) Slashing: Bisected sabre Vampiric axe of balance Scimitar of wounding Edged pick of earthly might And keep in mind you can DW the 1H weapons soon.  So all those beautiful 1H slashers are gonna be optionable to you. So basically I'd use whatever you got, especially when leveling.  Go for highest DR, ignore weapon spread, crits, delay, etc. until the end game.  Don't worry about weapon skills, even if its 20/350 you'll be at 350 in like 3 instances.

Yep, for LU37 they are removing "duel wield" weapons from the game and making them all "1 hand xx". If I can find the post (think it was in the guardian forums) they said the off hand weapon will be slowed a little to even out the damage that currently happens and that we can use *most* 1 handed weapons. If I can find the post I will link it.

Well that was an easy find...  >> http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...topic_id=366605  <<

TEST SERVER ONLY - WEAPON USABILITY

  • In early testing for GU37, weapon usability is being improved by removing the Dual Wield weapon designation.
  • All current Dual Wield weapons will become One Handed and gain the damage rating of a comparable one handed.
  • You will be able to equip most One Handed weapons in either your main or offhand.
  • In order to compensate for the increased damage to dual wielding, offhand delay is slowed by a small amount so that damage over time remains the same.
  • Again, this is being released extra-early to TEST SERVER ONLY and will not be going live with GU36

Hi Tim, I was speaking of +piercing and +slashing items, not piercing or slashing weapons Items like Ichorstand, our EoF Class Gloves, Bracers of the Codex, Stained Glass Hoop, Dark Bangle, etc all give +piercing, which is going to improve your accuracy when using piercing weapons. While there are items out there with +slashing on them, I'd say that they are considerably less when compared to the +piercing available from the current KoS and EoF loot tables, making those slashing weapons less desirable - no point having slasher in one hand and a piercer in another if you've got 20 more +piercing than slashing - you're gonna hit a 74+ mob so many more times you'd probably wont be getting all that much out of that slasher.. Thats my opinion anyway..
