just wondering which to take:

i have in bank an Adept III of protoferno

so should i use that and choose between glacial wind & iceshield for M2 or pick the M2 Proto, sell the Adept III and hope for a master on the others?

Either Glacial Wind or Iceshiled for sure.  Don't even consider protoferno.

Iceshield is aggro-free, cheap, easy damage.  Glacial Wind is ur biggest non-fusion AoE spell, hitting for well over 3k per target, at lvl 70.

For solo, grouping, AND raiding, those make up a lot of ur dmg.  In raids, I consistently parse 1700-2100 zonewide, with no buffs other than being in Trouby group.   Iceshield constitutes avg. 9% of this, and Glacial Wind constitutes about 10%.  Protoferno is lucky to break 2% at M1, even if I use it frequently.

Glacial Wind is one of the top 2 aoes we have.  get it. it decrease chance of resist and is a spell u will use alot.

Iceshield i do not recomend as the deffrence in the master and m2 was like 6 points or somthing before eof.    and well 6x3 =18pts ever 30s compared to an aoe on multiple mobs cast twice as much...

Glacial Wind

Glacial Wind

totally agree - get glacial wind, its only something like a 3% increase over m1 but it generally ranks a fair bit higher than the others on my zone parses. The 3% dmg isn't as important as the 3% harder to resist bit though. Afaik theres only one aoe cold debuff in the game, that's the warden's glacial cold spell so it is often hard for a wizzy to land on the mobs that arent directly the target of the MT since that target is usually the one with debuffs stacked on it. (In comparison there's at least 4 aoe noxious debuffs =/ )

Although I wouldnt recommend protoferno I did have a bit of a look a while back at what the difference between the m1 and m2 versions of this spell were. Basically I do poets palace a fair bit and I use protoferno alot to pull the mobs together  (pulling with protoferno+cease makes the mobs swarm to the dumbfire and kill it for the aoe after which they're clumped together for a convenient grp root). Anyways I have the parses of the last 20 runs through poets, the first 9 of which were using m2 protoferno and the next 11 using m1. If anyone is curious this is the averages of the damages done by m1 and m2.

(Im pretty sure int and crit% has no effect on the protoferno however i did have the boneclasped girdle on which may have gone off now and then so it _may_ skew the averages up a little. The mobs wouldnt have been debuffed other than that.. i never bother in poets)

 9Protoferno M1

860 hits  - average dmg 250.2  ----  Fiery end: 965 hits - average damage 863.0

Protoferno M2

579 hits - average dmg 274.5  ----- Fiery end: 710 hits - average damage 880.9

(you can actually see the damage range of fiery end by mouseovering the fiery end buff on the protoferno while its active.. cant remember what they are tho)

Again I wouldnt recommend protoferno over glacial wind.. this is just for reference if anyone is curious about how much of an upgrade m2 is over m1 protoferno.

Glacial Wind is really the way to go.  I do like frigid gift and iceshield in theory BUT the problem with both of them is that they are a proc.  They will only land maybe 75-80% of time.  Protoferno might not be bad because it'll lvl with you but overall I've yet to see it pull it's own on the parse.

Do glacial wind, you wont regret it.

I went with Glacial winds as well, but Frigid Gift is a 100% proc if a spell lands it will proc damage there is no saving roll for the mob only a resist check to see the damage done.  As far as Protoferno it needs the full 45 second duration to get full effect out of it Glacial winds is 9 second duration and will go full duration 95% of the time.
