![]() this isnt a rant just an observation but has anyone realized the diffrence in the eq1 community and eq2 community as far as politeness, organization, and self policing? let us take a look back 1. it was inpolite to instpect someone without asking (stupid now that i think about ti but was common practice) 2. you wanted a spawn get on the list wait your 2 hours to get in group, if you think your smart and ks someone congratz not only does that grou hate you that zone hates you and prorobly most of the server your probobly kicked from your guild and outlawed from every group in your level. 3. ninja looting? see above. 4. very very well organized well thought out tacticts and ways of doing groups gotta kill this spawn this spawn and this spawn in 2.5 min and then run to left corner pac the one to the right and shimmy down long wall to named oops cleric didnt pac wipe and a corpse run. 5. if you couldent tank you couldent get a group if you couldent heal as a healer you cant get a group. if you couldetn play your class people knew and all it would take was one day of messing off to have whole server glaring at you for ninja looting that item. to me this was impressive specifically what the community did to bad players. |

![]() to me this was impressive specifically what the community did to bad players. Yeah, that's why they all play WoW now... I'm just kidding... no, really, I'm kidding... stop glaring at me... that was my fisherman... 4 and 5 still happen in EQ2, for the most part. Myself, and my roommate are usually in a group within 5 minutes or less, so if you're waiting hours for a group... reputation still holds a lot of weight, thank goodness. |

That was a loooong time ago when the barebones EQ was released. You *had* to go through mistmoore, CT, guk, to level up. There was no shortcuts to 50 unless you were a druid who kited guards all day. With the exp penalties only the folks who did these zones and did them well levelled. Then Kunark came out and all of a sudden any schmoe who could chain pull Overthere and Dreadlands could hit the cap. |

![]() In EQ1, nerds finally got the chance to be the "popular" kids and they abused it like high school jocks abused them. Playing with people in that game was like talking to the employee at the bookstore with greasy hair, thick glasses, acne, and dandruff on his collar who would talk down to you if you didn't know everything about the Tolkien series. To me it was a game, to them it was a chance at redemption. Remember when I was glad this wasn't EQ1? Oh, wait...that's right now. |

![]() Heheh I like this game was a Wiz on eq 1 (1 K AA +) EQ 1 stuff to remember Remember when gear and quest items really ment something (jboots) ? Remember when flagging a zone didnt mean the next expansion all your work went out the window ? Remember when you got your Epic 1.0 and people looked at you with awe! Remeber when there was something to be in awe of ? Remember when going to Kunark took a 20 minute boat ride. Remember when you died ... you learned not to make that same [Removed for Content] mistake for 10,000 time? Remember when max level ment you knew how to play the game ? Remember the holy trinty ? EQ II Remember when there was shard runs ? Remember when there was group debt ? Remember when Angler had the most player kills of a NPC ? Remember when disarming a trapped box ment something ? Remember when chests where the #1 killer in the game Remember having to do access quests to even get to diffrent zones ? (zek , ef, ls etc) Remember when Adept III's where cheaper then MA 1's ? Remember when Master spells where rare ? Remember when a Gold was alot of cash ? Remember when they said they found a way to prevent Bot crews (theres a post) and they tested it with a 99.9% accuracy ? I wonder what happend to that automated bot checking program and why its still not used ? Remember when Prismatic 1.0 was the shiznit - Krovax 70 guard 100 AA playing since day 1 ..... I remember alot of stuff. I just hope I dont have to say Remember when I played EQ II |

![]() remember when all druids had to run anonymous to avoid being overwhelmed by tells for ports remember keeping coffins available for when you have to beg that necro for a corpse summon remember invising and playing dodgeball with mobs while nekkid so you can drag the groups corpses to zoneline for a rezz, just to have someone train the zone karnor's castle, 1mil trains and counting..... i have alot of very fond memories of that game and sometimes really miss it. |

![]() For some reason, when I think of EQ1, I don't have very fond memories.... Let us see...Rathe Council. One of the most messed up God encounters ever. 4 hours worth of work blown in 2 secs time span. Resists off the chart even after being debuff till people's fingers were blue. Enchanters developing carpal tunnel from keeping mobs mezzed for hours at a time. I've never had a raid here that required me to talk guildies off ledges after the raid. It was these types of [Removed for Content] raids that pushed all the raiders off EQ1 to WoW and EQ2. |

![]() My buddy calling me up, "Get this game, its called everquest"....Whats that??? "Just trust me" Loosing my MMO virginity...Nothing compares to that first log in =) How on my first day in EQ1 my RL buddy who got me to play took me to Freeport from Felwithe. Getting directions from a random dwarf, getting lost, finding the boat... my buddy falling through the boat and having to swim across the ocean of tears (haha). Feeling super UBER when my conj finally got the 25pt damage shield. Walking up to lvl 1 chars and giving them the DS, telling them to "just walk around" Standing on top of castle mistmoore killing things way beyond my level. Getting cought standing on top of castle mistmoore killing things beyond my level. Casting Sentinal from the staff of the observers during a raid, and the massive ammounts of LD chars that followed. First day monster summoning came out, running to the docks in the Oasis with my new Sand Giant pet!! /evil grin Twinking my bard with full lambent and duel ssoys at lvl 1, grabbing high level buffs from toons in the EC tunnel! Taking said twinked bard to lower guk for the mask of the deceiver! Going to weddings in the Neriak Chappel as my high elf. |

I can tell you why this all went away in 5 words.. NO IN GAME CUSTOMER SERVICE I was a senior guide in EQ1...Yes we had griefers, they got petitioned by players and we invised ourselves and watched the griefers commit their terrorizing...Then we appeared before them, told them that they would recieve a soul mark and with 3 soul marks they could recieve a suspension or banning at the behest of the server GM... AND it worked....AND SOE actually did as they threatened... Now days you are more likely to get your name changed because some "GM" see it on your own petition than the other person is to get a scolding..And greifers are given the benifit of the doubt if the GM choses not to believe your side of the story because they didn't see it happen...Of course they didn't...there is NO IN GAME SUPPORT! |

![]() Lots of fond memories of Everquest before any expansions... Zoning into either lguk or solb asking to get on lists for groups in various "camps" and waiting 3-5 hours or more... Spending most of the time killing npc guards to level. All the exploits... People exploiting the sphinx in rathe mountains... You could pull the sphinxs pet without it aggro'n and get exp from it until 39th, and once you killed it the sphinx summoned another. Same could be done with the gyspy enchanter. People exploiting the Deepwater Goblin pets in Lake Rathe... they were good til around 25th. For some reason they pathed to the Rathe Mountains zone in. People would stand along the lake shore and kill them without worry. Being only one of perhaps 2-3 50th shadowknights on my server and being invited to Plane of Fear to loot umbral armor because there was no other shadowknights around. Nobody played them because they were the slowest to level with racial, and class exp penalties. Getting 50th and having nothing to do... since all there was to do was kill either Nagafen or Vox and the two guilds that could didn't let anyone have a chance at it. Guilds with Calendars on who got to raid what because none of it was instanced. People were generally less greedy when I played EQ. People would ask for help and guildmates or friends who arrive, they just seemed to stick together more so then WOW. I've never met more self serving, egotistical, greedy s.o.b.'s in any game than WOW. Later in Kunark nobody had reached Veeshan's Peak the top guilds were still arguing over Trakanon and some senior guide went crazy and began summoning all high level people to Veeshan's Peak. |

Eq1... When you spent weeks grinding just so you could group with your friends only to have LDoN arrive and screw you over with the new group level ranges, I never did get into one

![]() EQ 1: Remember that short period of time when you could actually play AS a mob? Project: M. Server Select Screen actually showed the population of the server instead of some ambiguous "Light, Medium, Heavy" designation. EQ2: The first time you ever rode a griffon. Casting your HO starter would actually heal you a small amount. Good and evil players used the same isle of refuge. |

![]() I remember first logging on, then logging off 36 hours later and only being lvl 25, lol... I remember having to make the runs to my home city thru harsh zones, hugging the zone walls I remember when race meant something... OGRE POWER! And having to be "shrunk" to go into certain dungeons. I remember when everyone wasn't created equal and it was called Ever-crack, so popular it made the cover of TV Guide. I remember always seeing a GM somewhere helping... even when /unstick didn't work I remember having to run up and down CL tunnel trying to find the sellers or dumping on my mule I remember always seeing 100s of the same corpse laying around forming patterns, lol I remember duelin' and having the toon make me unequip my weapons, lol |

![]() I have both fond and not so fond memories of EQ1. a fond memory is Guk... oddly enough a not so fond memory was corpse running in Guk. I remember the Commonlands tunnel, and it was actually kind of a sad day when the Luclin Bazaar was implemented. The commonland tunnel bazaar was something that was thought up by players, brought about by players, sustained by players, and to this day is pretty much unmatched as just a great place to socialize and hang out for everyone. It's a pity that there isn't a place like this for RP and socializing anywhere in eq2. I remember when the game first came out, and Crushbone was a really scary place... and constant shouts in Greater Faydark: "Who let D'Vinn out $@&*##! I remember the the h_ll levels, and Aradune saying they would "never be changed," although they were about 2 months after he left SOE/Verant. I remember "Looking for Bind," in empty zones and ... always... ending up dead on the one time you couldn't get one. I remember before Kunark, when every room and corner of SolB and Guk had a group hanging around killing the pops. And the periodic huge party of ticked off people outside of SolB after a nasty train washed through the zone like a tsunami. I remember playing a ranger and stealing agro from a warrior doing 300 pts of damage per hit with a 36 damage hit from a short sword and getting pounded into a gelatinous mass of elf goo. I remember Lum the Mad

![]() I remember the bad ol' days of Rallos Zek, when you could loot items from other players that had been killed by a mob. Also, when you weren't prevented from looting items in people's weapon & secondary slots. I remember when you could still get JBoots from the Najena dungeon, though I forget the exact name of the named mob that dropped them. Drelzna???? Gods, I forget I remember the conniption on Rallos Zek, when some fool from Blood Coven went AFK, out in front of Befallen -- actually put her AFK tag up & went AFK, on an open PvP server -- & then whined that someone ganked her. Good times! I remember drunken foot races from Ak'Anon to Erud & back again, pre-POK, when you had to run the whole freekin' way. Highpass, while drunk? Priceless. I remember the old Dark Unity, on Rallos Zek ... my Hordeling bretheren ... the wars with DarkenBane ... the hassles with Black Tear ... the "weddings" that were disrupted & turned into massive PvP affairs ... "n00b wars" in Qeynos & Freeport ... o ya.

I remember in game GMs and Guides who would answer your petition within 15 minutes and take care of teh issue 5 minutes later if it were in their power to do so. I remember when there was NO in game spam I remember when if you were a grief farmer you could be trained I remember when cheaters had a bad reputation on the server and wouldn't be able to find groups I remember when You could speak you mind about things SOE did that you didn't like and your post wouldn't get locked by some power crazed moderator....(OK this never happened but the mods on these boards are very heavy handed with the thread lock, had to get in my digs...Love ya mods..) I remember logging into Halas the first night I played EQ with 256meg of ram and a 2 meg video card and being awestruck....Try doing that today...LOL I remember the last time I logged into EQ and said goodbye to my guildmates. Most were eager to try EQ2...Most have gone back to EQ1 or now play WoW....OHHHH OHHH I said the evil game's name..guess this thread wil be locked too

If you think something you post is going to get a thread locked, I recommend not posting it. Especially in light that the heavy handed moderator you're complaining about is actively perusing the boards while you post.

LOL, heck I didn't even play PvP and I remember Fansy Btw, to the person who mentioned Project M, it didn't remain just short term. There are shrouds you can take on in EQ Live now that let you play as imps, kobolds, bears, etc, and you can level up for more sophisticated monster personas. But playing rats in the newbie yard *was* hilarious and fun.
