OK i have a p4 3gigherts with 3 gig of dual chanel ddr ram
up untill these last 2 patches my 6800gtx has been working ok.
now starting about 2 patches back i started getting some serious video lag.
I decided to check to see if it was a temp item and its not im staying constant at 55 degs on the gpu adn 50 to 54 deg on my cpu well within heat range still in the green accouding to the specs so its not a heat issue.
i dont have this issue in any other programs that use 3d like, doom 3, unreal, wow just to name a few.
I do seem to get my memory usage going up constanty each time i zone  wich seems to point at a mem leak but i dont think this is the issue as the roble will exibit most time right when i start the program. i can usaly tell if its going to be bad if im getting under 5 fps at the caracter selection screen.
when i do get ino the game i will be able to take a few step adn then i get a noticble paus then i get to move again  repeat repeat.
i thought hmm maybe its a driver issue so i downloaded the latest official drivers as of 10/5/2005 nope this dosent solve the problem its still like rolling dice if i can get in to play with decent frame rate. After playing for a while it will also get laggy wich the only way i can fix it is by loging out all the way to the desktop and back in.
its not a cpu limit as the cpu is running at 50% or less spiking to 75 or so when zoning. temps remain stable and never gets into the yellow on the temp gage provided with the drivers ( doom 3 will push it into the yellow after extended use and i still dont have slow down in that game) so its somthing unique to eq2 exactly what i cant say.
i can tells you that with this patch on the old drivers and the new drivers that the driver has responded with a error mesage some times on exiting (forcably at times) that there was a unknown video driver erro or that the driver has stoped responding
so i know its a issue with eq and the driver. again i have no problems in any other program.  so i went  to the extream case of reformat reinstall.  nada still have the same problem.  some thing though is seriously wrong for 6800 users and eq.

i have tried many different bios settings to see if this has any effect and as far as i can tell the answer is no. right now i am at a loss as to what else i can try and do

thanks

I have actually noticed some video issues too. Lately. No idea what sort of specifics you might need to trouble shoot them. ~Eva

I had the same problem with my ati radeon 9800 pro 256 for a while so i started playing with settings, I disabled smart shader 2.0 within the advanced graphics settings in windows display driver area, both directx options, and it seemed to go away..

Not sure if it's the same problem (but it sounds similar) but I've noticed as well that video-lag seems to occur more when I play longer. It has all the symptoms of a memory-leak or accumulation problem. Some zones seem to have a bigger effect on this than other and even certain areas in certain zone's (a few rooms in Ruins of Varsoon were particularly bad). Disk activity became more and more at those times (all the signs of continually being busy with swapping memory to and from disk)
I've had this problem longer than the last few patches though.

My graphics card is a Geforce FX5900, 128Mb

well i have hade 2 instances now where i log in  and its realy laggy and then poof it locks up have to reboot. adn i keep turning off more and more features of the gaem that used to work. so again im not sure whats happening but soon we might have to play with stick figures if it keeps going this way. just turned off all reflections and shadows now not much more i can turn down.

and this is on a fairly hi end card in my opinion i have a 6800 gtx adn im almost turning every option off. I think something is going wrong and needs some serious attention.

EQ2 is the only game I have ever played where it can reboot my computer out of the blue. It's a click as it goes off and one as it comes on. It's not very often, couple times a month maybe at most. But it does worry me that it could damage some hardware. I'm not referring to the crashes to desktop or the (fairly often) freezes at the loading resource screen. It actually turns my entire system off and back on.

reboots like that are often caused by 2 things... Memory errors (usually generate a BSOD type error but not always) or Heat/Power issues.

What type of Cooling setup do you have?
what type of power supply do you have?
what type of airflow do you have (is your PC case tucked in a corner with no airflow, covered with blanket/cheeto's wrappers?)

Just some ideas for you...

I have a 6800 also, and have not had any of these Reboots... nor have I had any noticeable video lag... I am using the 78.01 drivers from Nvidia.

I don't think its heat related. It has happen early into play and for the most part happens when not under a large video load. It's never happen on any raids and usually happens when I'm heading someplace, not even fighting. Also, it can happen and I stay on the rest of the night without any further issues. My cooling fans are working fine and I keep one side panel off the computer. What do you mean by a memory error?

Keeping one of the side panels off can actually do more harm than good. The systems are set up for some sort of air flow system where cooler air is constantly being either blown or drawn over the processors or cards. By leaving the sides off, you are basically defeating the air flow design and just allowing ambient air around the system to cool it. By far that is less effective than a flowing style. Just some things to note.

heh no i know its not heat. as i monator that on my 2nd monitor.

and it only happens in eq2 have not had any other game ever do this.

will happen once in a while and its always proceded by some noise from the speakers.

one thing i have noticed is that the windows in eq will stop responding corectly a min or 2 before this happens

ie they wont move forward when in use then the mouse will stop responding adn then it will reboot.

i can run stress test programs and narey a problem or i can run the 3d benchmark programs and never happens and many other games with this never happening. rhil i dont know what the problem is its not heat (i have 3 120 fans 2 blowing are in and one for the cpu and 3 80 fans one on the top (blow hole) the temp monitors never get high if its bad memory well not much i can do if its the vid card memory but you would think it would happen other times as well not just in eq. as far as power supply its a true antic 500w should be plenty as it was running fine on my 350 (upgraded to this one cause its quieter same reson i have 120 instead of supperfast 80s)

have run memory tests like sandia and never get a glitch on pc mem (this cant test the vid mem and i dont know of any program that does)
