Or rather detail. It seems to happen to me when I use a nuke or special ability on the killing blow. A dot can kill the mob, but I dont stay stuck, only when I use a flat out nuke.  In speaking with others, Csantran, 50 Paladin and Grimysh, 19 sorcerer, and Amarylis 19 summoner, they have found the same thing to be true. ~Eva

This may be part of it, but there also has to be some type of interaction with melee. As a Wizard, 90% of my kills are nukes, but I haven't done melee in...20 levels or so.  I also haven't been stuck in combat outside of the feared mob thing (where one of the mobs in a group freaks out and runs away).

There is something to this...I was playing guardian today with my wife's templar, and just for fun timed a special to kill a mob (I used True Strike) and was able to get stuck 3 times in a row.

However, it didn't happen every time, and one of those may have had an add.  There was also a weird thing where we were attacked by the Gul Thex High Guard and ran untill they gave up and reset.  Maybe 3 minutes later, we got the xxx is no longer worth experience message, so it may be that the server is holding on to encounters too long.

FYI, I've reported the bug and confirmed it myself.  Thanks to all who reported this problem and who also helped me on Test.  Keep up the good work!

Already /bug -ed this as well. I've noticed that when fighting with my pet, that if I finish the last mob with a DD myself, I stay stuck in combat. Unsummoning my pet however ends combat. Unfortunaletly when in a group, this doesn't work (might need to "unsummon" everyone who has been in melee for the same effect to happen SMILEY )

Something changed...I'm assuming it was with the last patch, but not sure.

Yesterday, fighting as a wizard, 50-75% of combats ended with me stuck.  I'm fighting the same things I was before (ice frights and stags in EF) using the same spells as the past few levels.  Before last night, I hadn't been stuck for a month or so.  There really doesn't seem to be anything different on my end.

Engaging another mob and /yell cleared it every time, but there are situations where this just isn't feasable to do.

I performed an experiment in Feerot last night.  100% of my fights that I finished with a nuke resulted in me being stuck in combat.  100% of my fights that I finished with a DOT and I did not get stuck in combat.

This appears worse in Feerot since I rarely got stuck in combat in Zek and used many nukes there.

When fighting with dual wield and not using abilities I seem to get stuck in combat every fight

I was having problems locked in combat in Thundering Steppes on Steamfont server over the weekend. I break an encounter that I am engaged in and run (usually due to an add). The encounter appears to break normally, but after I finish the next fight (successful kill, not sure if finish with CA or melee) then I notice I am locked in combat, complete with fighting crouch animation, in-combat power regen rates and lock symbol by my name. Also happened to my husband. /yell does not work and engaging and killing another mob still leaves me locked. Had to zone or camp every time to reset.
