I thought I'd go take some photos of NPCs so people could see some Before & After shots of the models. I don't really have Qeynos toons, and it was raining in Freeport today, and I have serious trouble getting female models to show (toggling their SOGA model doesn't always help), so I actually only have five pictures.  But I figure, anyone else can go take screenies and post them to this thread too. The lousy color on these is mostly because of the fog and rain in Freeport.  Stupid weather.

I have to say while I really liked the old models, the new models just seem to have that extra polish.. they seem much more appealing to the eye and seem to be more artistic. There were just some that bothered me from the old pictures (such as the new halfling no longer looking like the old EQ halfling and female dwarves having pointy ears?). But we'll have to see.. good to pick and choose.

Yeah some models look really nice, but some look really nasty, too skinny bodies, skin drawn to tight etc. I notice that 95% of the screenshots posted are of the ok - nice looking ones and not the nasty awful looking ones hehe.

Ok it's my opinion but these new models are way to cartoony(poor dwarfs and erudits SMILEY ), they don't suit in the eq2 world. Moorgard mentioned also this:

SOGA ogre is NOT an ogre, its a Klingon.  Boo.  I'll keep my ugly ogre the way Rallos Zek intended!

I don't think the SOGA are bad, but for the most part, I'm keeping my models original, with one exception: Humans. The SOGA humans look lightyears better than the current models. I like them.

On a side note, what's up with the Kate Moss ultra-skinny necks and legs on the SOGA females?

necks on the human and elven girls seem a bit too thin to support those big heads...  don't much care for the fact that female dwarves and gnomes look pretty much the same here...

i dunno.  i'll have to try them out and see for myself.  so hard to tell what's going to look good until you've actually seen the finished product in motion.

Looks like a cheap Barbie knockoff got loose and posed for some photos.

I don't really like the old human females (even though I play one) but these are sub-par. Luclin models would have looked better hehe.

Skinny halflings?  Skinny dwarves are bad enough, but skinny halflings?

If these are an example of the SOGA models I'll stick to the old ones personally. The gnome female is OK,

but thats about it. Never could understand why they are changing them anyway. I just want to be able to

change hair color and style from time to time.

In my opinon the only races' features I don't like in the current models are the humans and occasionally the wood elf males :smileyhappy: The SOGA human model is definitely better than the current version but I prefer the rest in their original form.

The new models look more polished for the most part. They are also somewhat cartoonish though, something i'm not particularly fond of. Many of those haircuts are beyond fugly as well. I'll probably stick to the old models for now.

Soga models are designed for an asian market. Asia, unlike some regions EQ2 was sold in, do not have a disproportionately obese population.

That was easily the stupidest comment made in this entire thread. The EQ2 dwarves, like pretty much 90% of the racial design in EQ2 is based off TOLKIEN LORE. And according to the ways of TOLKIEN, Dwarves are as they are because their shorter, stumpier bodies are better equipped to deal with cold, and harsh environments. Short story: Dwarves are dwarves, they're not fat.

Wow.  Just... wow. For the record, there's a rather large variety of body types between "really should get gastric bypass" and "really should see someone about that anorexia."  Neither is healthy, and neither, generally, is something people want to see in a game. Legs really ought to have enough mass in order to have the muscles in them that will connect the hip to the knee and, y'know, make that whole moveable appendage thing work.  And that hardly wualifies as obesity.  Even if you take a really, really broad view (no pun intended) of "obese."

So.. I guess that means American players just want a stumpier version b/c it means we loves our fat butts and want to play them in a game huh? And since when did stumpy mean fat anyway.. at least when talking about dwarves?

Don't try to do that subtle "clever" crap when you're talking about someone or somewhere. Just come out and say it. [Removed for Content] isn't a title you should want.

Anyway.... Although I do like stumpier looking dwarves (not the EQ2 dwarves we have already.. they're just ugly)... I think the SOGA model ones look pretty nice even though the females don't really look all that dwarf-y SMILEY

Spent last night and tonight going over the soga models, played with character creation utility and both genders.   A few of the male models Ill use but the rest have more issues to me than they solved.   the posture of every female character and the way they move is ... just weird.    The models are very limited but I expected that.    They do look a little strange next to the regular models.   I honestly dont see how they look more polished unless the way I use the word polish is just different that some.   They have less details, no shadows, less 3 dimensional looking.  To me they just look more simple.    The males do look better but then again they all look like 16 year old boys.    Its interesting Ill say that.   Try out blending the hair colors btw, they dont streak but rather blend so you can get some interesting odd colors.

The barbarian femals still have fat bottoms and wide hips in the soga models ... I checked.

Oh yeah.... barbarian females definetly have the big bottoms. Doesn't help that it sorta pokes out when they run and shows through the skirt SMILEY

And I like the hair blending thing. It gives us ALOT more options in hair color.

Guess everyone has his own oppinion about the new look, so here is mine. SMILEY

Dwarves: Very, very bad. The face is quite ok, but the body looks like a halfling body. What happened to his chest and arms ? No way I will ever transform my proud dwarf into that.

Ogres: Bad too. The old ogres are ugly, and that's how they should be. New ogres just look like handsome barbarians with two strange teeth.

All Elves: Look more like vampires than elves. Don't like it either.

All in all the asian style is quite obvious. Played a free week on Lineage 2 once and those models definately remind me of those. I have to admit that many of those human like classes look quite ok.

Anthur

P.S. Someone at SOE is mesing around with linefeeds. SMILEY

Most of the models look "ok". But I want to be the one that decides which model people see me as, not the other way around. If I were an Ogre then I would be [Removed for Content] that everyone saw me as a romulan, I would want to keep my OGRE appearance. I'm an erudite and the changes , from what I can tell, don't seem that different, but still!

Some of them I like the new model better, but most I don't. This was probably stated somewhere, but can you choose which models you want to see in SOGA and which you don't? Or do you just turn them all on and off?

Anyways, only 1 real thing to say? Why in the world does the new ogre model look like the Hulk?? That is just disturbing!!

EDIT: Oh, 1 more thing to say... Why do the poor halflings look like little kids now SMILEY

How do these new models effect game FPS?  Do they render faster/slower?  Are they better optimized?

Thanks!

SOGA halflings are awful! Before they look like small people, now they look like malnourished children.  Also agree with the ogre klingon comment.  In fact that was the first thing I was thinking when I saw the ogre changes...Klingon!!  Why does everyone look so upset?  What's with the obsession with everyone having a bad day, month, year?  I never did like how qeynos was all shiny happy, but have we taken a complete 180 degree turn?  I mean even when I'm upset I don't go around making sure everyone gets a frownie from me.The only race that I think took a turn for the better is human.  I would really have rathered they work on improving and refining the current models than putting in newer models.   Also could this time have been better spent improving look and variety of armor/clothes?  I don't know if this is a "different" team or not...well that's my gripe for this update..I'll shut up now.
