Hi all, I just got my first Jasper today WOOT!!!!  I'm a soloing Ranger, I solo 99% of the time and was wondering what adept 3 in the levels 20 to 29 would be best for a soloing Ranger to get? Thank you

Personally, I find that I do the most damage with Backshot.  I've updated mine to Adept I.  I also still use ShadowBlade and have that upgraded to Adept I.  I generally solo for most of my time and getting in that first high damage shot helps in going a long way.  Some of those skills will start getting replaced as  you get into the 30s though.  It mostly boils down to your personal preference and your fighting style.  I usually start at long range, so backshot works well for me.  As the mob gets close, I Cheapshot > Stalk (move behind the mob while this charges)>Shadowblade.  It doesn't always work, but when it does, it really helps.

I'd say either Back Shot or whichever Open Shot skill you have (I can't remember if you have Triple Shot yet). Soloing = kiting, and that Triple Shot is invaluable for kiting.

Open shot would be a good choice.  While kiting you can fire that from any angle, not just the rear like Backshot.  The only thing about Open shot was the long firing time (4 seconds, I think).  I don't know how long Triple shot takes to fire (because I don't have it yet).

I guess the above people are just trying to up their post count instead of reading the question you posed.

For levels 20-29 (Back Shot and Open Shot are 15 and 16) you will want to upgrade Sniping Shot (29.5) or Triple Shot (2SMILEY first.

Alluna, maybe try reading my post. The part where it says "Triple shot." I assumed that the replacement for Open Shot came in the 20-30 range, but I didn't go check the skill list, so it was a qualified statement. Nice attitude, though!

A) Don't be a [expletive ninja'd by Faarbot] on these boards we keep it civil.  Take the attitude to WoW if you want.

B) All that being said she is correct.  If I had to pick one I would upgrade Triple Shot.  Its an invaluable skill.  Great for kiting, great for dps in groups.

Another school of thought is to sell the jasper buy adept I's of these skills and pocket the gold difference.   The reasoning behind this is that all the skills in the 20 get replaced eventually.   If you sell the jasper for 30 gold and spend 5 in getting adept I's you will be well on your way to being able to buy the rare needed for an Adept III of the final skill line.

For example you can sell it live with adept I's and at 38 get an Adept III or better Crippling blade.  That will be the last upgrade in the high dmg backstab line, so its well worth upgrading.   When you get into your late 30's and 40's your going to need alot of gold.   You will need it for Imbued cedar bows.  Imbued Ebon armor, Imbued Ebon weapons and adept III and whatever master I's you can find.  Gold will become extremely precious at these levels due to how expensive everything is.

Its never too early to start saving towards that goal.  So you should ask yourself be more effective now until your later 30's when you get skill line upgrades or save it and be more effective post 38 with your final skill set.

Personally I just can't see spending gold on something I know I will replace soon enough.

I second that.  Use Adept1 CAs and save up until you reach the last CA in the line.  Unless you just have money to burn, at least.  SMILEY

At level 25, I don't have Sniping Shot and Triple shot yet, so I didn't include those.  I was going with the skills that I have in my arsenal and personally use the most often.

Look!  My post count is just skyrocketing now!

I'm of the same school of thought - Adept3s for the final skills in the line, Adept1s for everything up to that point. To each their own, though. I tend to be conservative about how I spend my money, and I have a hard time putting a rare upgrade into a skill when that upgrade will eventually be replaced. SMILEY

All that being said... If you really want an adept 3 you will use for life: Makeshift arrows. I only have mine at adept1 and rarely run out, but I do have a backpack full of them (and 1 for ferion 'ripped' arrows - in case a raid pops up). If I ever (at 36) got a hair up my quiver it would go to that ability SMILEY

Sorry if I was a little short yesterday (I have an average post rating of 5 stars so its not typical of me), but its extremely frustrating for people to come here, ask a simple question like what should they have their jasper made into and then have 3 (yes, 3) posts in a row offering ideas for upgrades which aren't even able to made with a jasper.   Based off the original 3 replies, it seemed like they didn't even read the original posters question.

Its also difficult when someone posts an open ended question like that.   Some posters who are level 25 might not know what the 26-29.5 spells do, so they can only comment on skills they have acquired.   If someone loots a Jasper and wants to know what the "best" skill to upgrade using the Jasper, to me that implies that they want to get the maximum use of their Jasper, not the best that they can currently scribe.  I myself am only level 24, but the first adept 3's I had made were Sniping Shot, Triple Shot and Hidden Shot.  I then later upgraded the ones I already can use (Makeshift Arrows, both the Shadow's, etc.) to Adept 3 because I look towards the future and like to maximize my damage.

Thank you all for the good advice.  You got me thinking about maybe I should sell the jasper and save up for Adept 3's for the end CA's.  Well for now I'll hold on to it and see how things go as I progress through the 20's. Thank you all again for your posts and help.
