They fixed the excess hate on Hail of Steel in LU17 (12 % @ adept III) but now it seems to take multipul casts to land on epic mobs. Only having to wait for the recast timer, it took me a good 15-30 seconds to get it to land on green, 50, epic 4xs in spirits of the lost last night. Seems like this might be a bug or a sleath nerf. Some questions for the community:Has it always done this?Is the "aim" based on a resist?Does it get harder to land on high level epics?Does this ever happen on regular group mobs?Is this working as intended(tm)?!

Even before LU #17 I have had it "miss" on occasion and not stick on a variety of mobs, not sure what made the skill not stick though.

![]() even though i no longer play... hail of steel is a "spell"...even though it uses a weapon to do dmg, lower the mobs magic resist and you will have better chances of landing it < Hangmans Noose works well > yeah nothing like trying to cast this spell when a mobs is at 50% only for it never to stick till he is at 5%

![]() I've noticed something similar, all on epics from what I recall. I'll hit the skill and I get the animation and spell effects and the button dims for a second, but HoS doesn't show up in the spell buff window. The button becomes active right away, no refresh. I haven't noticed any message associated with it, like out of range or a miss. Usually I can click it again and it sticks. Very pleased with the hate reduction though. |

Some mobs are jsut resistant to spells. This starts out as a spell as far as landing it's initial attack. I am not sure but I think it may be heat based at first. I have had to recast on some targets a lot in order for it to stick. It's kinda rare though to get something that resistant.

The guild did lockjaw tonight and he was alot less "resistant" to hail. I only had to cast it twice on average to get it to stick.Hail of Steel isn't a "spell"; it is a combat ability and shouldn't get resisted. Maybe aim hail component of the ability is considered a true spell and can be resisted.

That's why I said it started out as a spell. The aim part is treated as a spell. I'm not sure what it's based on, like disease or heat or what but some mobs are more resistant to it. The Aim part is what starts the CA though.

![]() Hail of Steel is a (magic according to an above poster) magic based DoT that does melee damage o the type of throwing weapon you have. Use Hangman's Noose (assuming magic is correct) before you use Hail of Steel to debuff the mobs magic resist and you'll get less resists.

![]() Thanks for the info. Definitely will be using hangman's now that I know what it's based on. Message Edited by Naggybait on 12-05-2005 05:27 PM |

Took a second look at the raid parses from the lockjaw fight and there was 2 HoS entries. One did no damage and was HEAT based. I'm guessing this is the aim and is like Naggy said originally.

![]() I too would like to see this fixed so that it acts as a pure melee Combat Art. Since it is only ever used by me in raids, having the epic mobs continually resist it is extremely frustrating. Any feedback from a member of the development team would be appreciated, thanks guys!
