Does anyone know where exactly the ratonga came from? I read the book the History of the Ratonga but it didn't really give any specifics.

Being a Ratonga player (4 of 6 toons are them), All I could tell is we came from underground tunnels, and I'd love to hear more history on them as well.

Searched around, the best I could  find was this from http://eq2.ogaming.com/data/1095~Races.php

"The ratonga are a race of intelligent rat-like creatures approximately the same height as dwarves. Little is known of the ratonga's background. The race was first encountered in the Age of War; ratonga guides aided Freeport Militia troop movements through subterranean tunnels to the Desert of Ro, allowing supplies and troops to move while the great city was under a long siege. After the encounter, the ratonga vanished back into the depths they were found in. The ratonga did not reappear for ages, until the massive earthquakes of the Rending began to rip the continent of Antonica into pieces. Rumors surfaced that the ratonga were a tribe of rat-men related to the Chertari of Dragon Necropolis, a theory that the ratonga themselves seemed to encourage. However, it quickly became clear that these new arrivals were an order of magnitude more intelligent than the Chertari, leading many to speculate that the race's origins might lie in the Underfoot itself. On this subject, the ratonga say nothing."

Hope this helps! :smileyhappy:

They were created by Brell Serilis, and they showed up shortly after the Rending. Other than that there's not much info on where they came from or when.

right.  This is what i can remember of the Prima guide's info on the ratonga.

Brell Serilis created what he thought of as a perfect race, they had considerable psionic powers.  they had claws as strong as steel to aid them in digging through their underground realm.  He created them in the lowest areas of the underfoot (the area that Neriak and other undergroung realms were in) to keep them away from the races of the other gods.

These he called the Roekillik.  Unfortunately they proved to be too intelligent.  Soon they were turning up in some of the deepest Dark elf cities.  These they would overwhealm with numbers and their psionic powers.  As soon as Brell saw this he took immediate action.  He was going to wipe the whole race out, but he couldn't just wipe out his children.  He created a massive vault that even the claws and teeth of the roekillik could not break and in here he put the last remaining Roekillik.

He then went back to the drawing board and created the ratonga.  No longer did they have the steel claws and teeth.  They still had some measure of psionic powers but they were uncontrollable by the race.  Then he stood back to watch again.  These were alse called roekillik at that time.  When however they reached the other races of the world they adopted the name of Ratonga, the memory of the roekillik was still fresh in the minds of many of the eldar elves.

When the gods left the ratongas underfoot realm was wracked by mighty earthquakes and many of them were trapped by cave ins.  The ratongas on the surface took refuge in Freeport.  Ratongas had already been employed as scouts in the armed forces of Freeport before the shattering and so an alliance of sorts had existed prior to their taking up refuge in the city of the overlord.

The same catclysms that had destroyed the ratonga nation also had another, more dangerous effect.  It broke the vault that housed the roekillik.  These roekillik, led by a great mage (N'gurai) quickly multiplied and took up home in an abandoned Dark Elf city called Anetiff.  From here they set about scourging the inferior ratonga from their underground realm.

I posted that on another (older) ratonga thread, there are loads of tratonga threads about, Vhalen has said quite a bit about them...

Another tidbit from the Prima guide. Brell Serilis wanted to avoid the visciousness of the Roekillik, so he asked Bristlebane to instill a touch of mirth and mischieviousness to the second incarnation of the Roekillik (Ratonga).  There's a little more to the lore of the ratonga from the prima guide I can't remember, but steelbadger captured the gist of the story.

that story would explain why the roekillik don't like to be called ratonga and vice versa.

Eh, the Roekillik are nothing but a bunch of punks with a serious attitude problem. I've pwned every single one I've come across.

Someone had asked somewhere else what sort of deal was stuck between the Ratonga and the Overlord to forge the current alliance. It's quite simple really.

We agreed to run all of the Freeport casinos in exchange for a home and an endless supply of cheese. Talk about a win-win deal...

((You should know you'll never get a straight answer from a Ratonga when it comes to matters of their history or dealings. :smileywink: My personal take is that the Ratonga are allied with Freeport because the Roekillik present a big problem for both them and the Tier'Dal. Both benefit from working together to eradicate them.))

I remember Vhalen stating that he wanted to reveal more of the ratonga history, but just to ratonga players.  However he couldn't / can't figure out a way of doing it without that info spreading to every other non-ratonga players.

As a ratonga, I think that is complete bull. You see what happened was...We were made on some planet made of cheese and celery, but the celery was getting two weird for the taste buds, so we ate all the cheese instead. Soon we didnt have a planet left. So our planet came swirling down from the sky, and hit the moon of luclin smack dab in the middle, and through the other side. Thats what started the big boom. Only it didnt start breaking until years later. Those little cracks that our planet made couldnt handle the presure of space. But anyways, on our way spirling on what was left of our cheese planet, We violently hit the ground and through the speed and velocity, our cheese planet hit the underground fast, and started tunneling deeper and deeper. Until we hit through the roof of a dark elf city. Our planet hit straight into their lake and exploded, cheese bits flying everywhere. So did we ratonga begin flying everywhere too. Only we didnt know that dark elves were alergic to cheese and celery. Their heads started exploding from the radiation of our foreign treats. So no one was left in the city besides us. So naturally, we cleaned up and made ourselves at home. Now we were used to digging through cheese, but this dirt stuff...This was hard stuff! Eventually we learned how to dig it though. And when we dug those tunnels, we saw light! It blinded us at first, but over 400 years we got used to it. We also found squishy un-furred ones, and sold our foreign treats to them. And thats how the first piece of cheese was born into civilised lands. NOw these unfurred people, they worshiped this new strange treat, cheese. And they begged us to teach them how to make it. So we gave them our sacred space cows In return of a bead. They reaped untold fortunes off of our space cows and cheese, and we were sadly still poor and lonly in our tunnels...Dam you ancestors for selling our cheese for a bead!! Why! Dam you all to heck...Well anyways, On our tunneling, we saw ogres and other denziens and they asked us to scout for us, we said nay, and they said yes, but we said nay, and then they said You suck, and we each said, No you suck, and they said no you do! And we cried. So we showed them the way to the unfurred city in turn of another bead...-_-...But anyways, we returned to our dark elf city until our great mage Horil Stinky'toes the third skryed on the moon of luclin and said it was cracking finnaly. And thats what started the big boom. Now to this day, we ratonga are still living lonly and poor, and misguided and mislead by the evils of them dam elves!! SMILEY...We live in gudders dammit! Gudders!! NOOOO!!!...*cries*...

And on that note...Some tunes baby...OW!

Long time ago me and my brother Orkil here,
we was hitchhikin' down a long and lonesome road.
All of a sudden, there shined a shiny demon... in the middle... of the road.
And he said:
[Sung]
"Play the best song in the world, or I'll eat your soul."
[Spoken]
Well me and Kyle, we looked at each other,
and we each said... "Okay."
[Sung]
And we played the first thing that came to our heads,
Just so happened to be,
The Best Song in the World, it was The Best Song in the World.

Look into my eyes and it's easy to see
One and one make two, two and one make three,
It was destiny.
Once every hundred-thousand years or so,
When the sun doth shine and the moon doth glow
And the grass doth grow...

Needless to say, the beast was stunned.
Whip-crack went his Whoopy tail,
And the beast was done.
He asked us: "(snort) Be ye angels?"
And we each said, "Nay. We are but men."
Rock!
Ahhh, ahhh, ahhh-ah-ah,
Ohhh, whoah, ah-whoah-oh!

This is not The Greatest Song in the World, no.
This is just a tribute.
Couldn't remember The Greatest Song in the World, no, no.
This is a tribute, oh, to The Greatest Song in the World,
All right! It was The Greatest Song in the World,
All right! It was the best song the greatest song in the world.

[Spoken]
And the peculiar thing is this my friends:
the song we sang on that fateful night it didn't actually sound
anything like this song.
[Sung]
This is just a tribute! You gotta believe it!
And I wish you were there! Just a matter of opinion.
Ah! Good God, God lovin',
So surprised to find you can't stop it.
