So last night as the alliance I am with battled our way through The Gates of Ahket Aken,  we came across a mighty vampire, the Ritual Mistress Cheroon.  I immediately recalled stories of a Lasna Cheroon that once lived within the Castle Mistmoore on the long lost continent of Faydwer.  I'm wondering if anyone might have any background as to whether this is the same vampire from Mistmoore, or a family of Cheroon.

I doubt it, but then again the Gates of Akhet Aken is just a raid zone with no lore importance on the game.

Minions of Mistmoore did invade the ancient ruins which were under the control of a vampire named Malkonis, as seen in The Gates Ahket Aken.  The force from mistmoore consisted of some trusted denizens from the castle itself, along with a contingent of hired mercenaries/laborers.

I don't say this often, or without some forethought, but I feel it's apt within this instance.  Therefore:

Well I also have to ask what is a vampire minion doing in the main Living Tombs area.  I went up to him talked to him he said nothing to me and turned into a bunch of bats flying away.

The history of Ahket Aken holds many secrets. These secrets have attracted many... archaeologists, theologians, treasure seekers and those that have an ancient bond. Usually these seekers find more than they anticipated, more than they should know. Perhaps these secrets will reveal to you the reasons why a vampire lord is interested in the ruins of a silent city.

Living Tombs and Silent City are the ruins of a great city called Ahket Aken.  The Gates of Ahket Aken is the raid instance, but Ahket Aken is definitely the name of the city itself -- see the book in Maj'Dul.

I was under the impression that Ahket Aken refered to the areas now known as the Living Tombs, the Silent City and the Fountain of Life.Living Tombs would have been the outskirts of the city, Silent City would be the City proper, and the Fountain of Life would be like St. Peters' Basilica is to Rome.

This would be correct based on the lore and information given in game.

Don't forget Loremaster Viswin as well - Garton Viswin was another vampire in Castle Mistmoore.

So various Lore has idicated that the Ewer gave birth to the D'Morte family, members of which later brought the Ewer itself to the eventual ruins of the Silent City and the Godking. But this does bring up the question which may be answerable from EQ1 lore, but how did Mayong Mistmoore become a vampire?

That is something that has never been answered ever in the entire EQueniverse. Only the developers know, and I really don't see them just giving us the flat out answer.

If you have finished the Peacock quest, go to the Peacock club to gain quite a bit of interesting lore on the whole subject, but you were indeed right Putresce, and I am sorry I did not mention it on that raid SMILEYThose are indeed agents of Mistmoore.

The Peacock Club "Tavern" is owned and operated by a mysterious and exclusive social club known as the League of Freethinkers. Although you have yet to be exposed to them, there are other taverns with other names that this club maintains.

For those of you who have not visited it, you can earn a membership by doing part of the Peacock Club quest line in Maj'Dul. Unfortunately, only the brave trotters that have faced the Godking will be given the low-down on D'Morte's and vampires. The Marshal is careful with his words. In his line of work, you never know who you are talking to. So please, visit the Peacock Club. I have been there myself and every so often I hear new whispers enter the tavern. I am sure there is a lot more to be revealed about vampiric curses and the League of Freethinkers.

If i remember correctly one npc u hail in Living tombs for the Godkings series of quests says that the de'morte family was alrdy in the dark arts when they lived in Neriak, but they finally went to far and they were kicked out and ended up in Akhet Aken. So i was left with impression they were Vampires alrdy.OH P.S. SMILEY In the darkhollow expansion for eq1 they have some interesting lore on mistmore. One thing i remember from a post from there lore forum is that he is an Eldar Elf not a dark elf like so many have told me in the past.

They were vampires in Neriak because of the Ewer. The Teir'dal weren't down so the D'Mortes went into hiding. Some of them lived out pitiful existences buried in Nektulos Forest. Malkonis instead flew to Ahket Aken, a secret city branched off from Takish Hiz that worshipped the goddess involved with the Ewer. He knew that in exchange for the Ewer he could live in safety there. When Ro got angry and demolished the whole elven kingdom, the lead priestess (Anashti'sul or whoever?) had everyone drink from the Ewer, and they were granted eternal life as mummies. You find them buried under the sand centuries later.

Anashti Sul is not their priestess, she is the goddess of undeath that the city worshipped. The society there was a theocracy, led by the "Godking" Anuk. He was the one who guided them all to drink from the Ewer and thus turn themselves all into undead.

Ya, you're right, it's been a while since I've read up on it, hehe.Still curious if there's any story on how Malkonis got his hands on the ewer, though. Since it's been confirmed that Mistmoore's guys are assaulting Ahket Aken, where Malkonis D'Morte is holed up, maybe they're after the ewer. Maybe the ewer is what initially made Mayong and his cadre as well and the D'Mortes swiped it from him.

Hmm but I do have to say vhallen what really interests me is the guys last name.  I happened upon him again while on a cataloging hunt expanding my collection of tomes for my home.  The guys ending name was D'Morte which is very strange since there was alot of D'Morte vampires in the bloodline chronicles.

Yes, same family.  I can only take it that you've not yet seen this person?  If you had, you'd know clearly that it's the same family, as he not only has the family resemblance, but the lore in the quest tells you clearly that this is one and the same.

Perform the various parts of the "Undead Censership" quest, as well as the "From Hands of Stone" quest and you'll learn all about the D'Morte family and how they came to be within the city of Ahket Aken, under the protection of the Godking.  You'll learn about Malkonis' lover, the High Priestess, and you'll learn about ... well, you'll learn a lot.

To be fair, all of this has been mentioned in these forums before.

Yup thats the guy I saw within the lost city of the Living tomb and near the entrance to the Silent City.  My only other curiosity lies with his sword and with his shield.  They do not appear to be ordinary items that any mear mortal or unmortal creature would carry.  Do the D'Morte clan of vampires have a special type of weaponry that they carry with them at all times?
