I am starting a new necro on test and was wondering if they can solo like they did in eq1?

Solo?Solo what?Solo white^^^ heroics, or green 3down mobs?Be a little more specific.FYI, with proper potions and spells and equipment, my necro can solo blue ^^^ heroics and duo white ^^^ heroics with a warlock who is similarly outfitted (legendary gear, legendary potions, aedept 3 and master spells, and we are both very near the int cap for our level)

It is my perception that as a necro I can take down difficult / tough mobs.It is my perception also that if I make a slight mistake, I die.Being a necro : You got the power, but it has 2 edges.

To be honest, I think either is a good soloer, IF you have good gear and spells.I was able to level decently fast because I started out making adept 3 spells for all my 1-20 spells. I put all my money into armor and weapons that boosted my Int at the expense of all else.In my first 30 days i went from level 3 to level 41 adventuring and level 31 tradeskilling. It wasn't until recently that I outleveled my ability to make my own adept 3 spells.

Its fizzles or resists that'll kill you.  I can kill ^^ yellows (a close match admittedly) but one fizzle or resist and I know I'm dead meat.  Play dead time.

Yup.  You fizzle and you're @#$!ed.

Yup, we're good soloers, but as others have pointed out, it's all about your spells and gear.  One of my alts is a Sage, so EVERY spell my necro has is Adept III or Master II.  Makes a difference, believe you me.  Put the rest of your cash in to armor/items/charms that max out your INT.

Now you're cooking with gas.

Oh, and practice running like hell.

Pretty much i have soloed most of my 56 levels and like everyone has said its aal about having your spells at ad3 or better and some good gear not all of my gear is legendary but it is high int items to max out my int and most of my spells are at ad3 or better and i was soloing sentinets of anuk in SS last night blue ^^^ but also control undeath helped as it was good to have that extra ally there and if all else fails like mentioned before hit the FD key and start again

As I have a level 60 Conjuror and a level necromancer I know those two classes very well.

And I like my Necromancer the most.

The reason why is:

They have feign death, helps a lot in tricky situations

They can heal  a nice amount of damage, and can make the difrence as backup healer for a tank or when some random player need just that exstra healing....it eats the health from the necromancer though.

We can ëat"up the health from monsters around us or one specific monster.

We can res at level 48 and thats great.

For now I like my Necromancer a lot more then my conjuror.

We solo efficiently, but like the FAQ says... those qualities that make us good soloers help us to shine in groups and I agree with that 100%.  Of course, well equiped any class should be able to solo well (with some exceptions to certain priest types).

Yup, be more specific to your question. If you're asking if you can solo in the same manner as EQLive Necromancers, no you cannot. Strategies that are the staple for EQLive (Fear Kiting, Snare Kiting) do not work in EQ2 in any highly successful manner. Root rotting is an option, but a very, very unpredictable and somewhat inefficient option. Now, if you are asking if you can solo at the same deadly potency as an EQLive Necromancer, yes you can. Necromancers are, in my opinion, one of the top 5 soloers in the game, provided you upgrade your important spells to Adept 3 and you have a sufficiently large INT pool. I've heard of necros soloing yellow ^^^ mobs, which is a huge feat in itself. However, against your run of the mill white-con no-arrow mobs, they are pet fodder for the necro, even on a bad day.

Necros are very good soloers if you are sticking to singles or very small groups. That said, I'll give my Conjurer a slight advantage when it comes to pure soloing. That said, my necro is a bit better in the group/raid situations. I basically use my 53Necro/57Conjurer as soloers and named ^^^hunters. As long as I stick to solo named, with no more than one add, I can generally take them when they are blue conns.  In my opinion, all pure casters are closely matched as the top 6 soloers in game. The best probably depends on the situation and the level of the class. E.g. enchanters aren't too hot early on, but they become very good soloers later in life.

Just keep everything at adept3/master1 - legendary/fabled gear, and you wont have any problems. It really isn't that hard once you get organized. My boys can take most no arrow yellow mobs, and even some oranges. If I'm fighting a group of two, I try to stick with evens/blues. 3 or more can be tricky, and Ill generally try to avoid them unless they are green/blue.

In closing, if you want to be a soloer, stick with a pure caster. Once upon a time Warlocks were king, but now they are all pretty even with the pet classes getting a slight edge.

The only non-pure caster class that really comes close in terms of soloing are Shadowkinights. A well equiped SK is a powerfull sob.

I have to concur that FD is a great skill to have.I will regularly take on named mobs (several mobs in the group) and concentrate on killing the adds, while rooting the named. If the root fizzles or is broken for some reason, I'll back up a bit and concentrate on the adds, then FD until the named resets, then take the named. It lessens the probability of a master chest, but some loot os better than no loot and debt
