Sorry i didn't post this in the newbie yard, but they wouldnt let me for some reason, so i decided I would post here. How exactly does the adept system work, being a future (conjurorer/necromancer) the guide sites keep pointing this out. Thanks in advance for the info.

when you level, you get certain new abilities... this goes throughout your entire career of your chosen class.
When you get the new spell/ability, you receive an Apprentice I version of it.  Basically this is the lowest form of the spell you can get, it will work but don't expect miracles.
All sorts of vendors throughout the different towns - Scribes in the case of Mages - sell Apprentice II versions of each spell/ability.  Again, the upgrade from Apprentice I to Apprentice II is minor at least but it's better then Apprentice I.

Players, tradeskillers, can become skilled in professions.  One of these professions is a Scholar / Sage.  Scholars have the ability to craft spells.  Scholars can craft any spell Apprentice II, Apprentice III and Apprentive IV with common crafted components.  This means, again, in little steps of improvement, an Apprentice IV spell is more effective then an Apprentice III spell which is better then Apprentice II which is better then Apprentice I.

Then there's mobs, enemies, creatures you kill.  They drop treasure and can sometimes spawn a chest.  These chests can contain spellbooks, Adept I spellbooks.
As before, an Adept I spellbook is usually better then an Apprentice IV version of the spell...

Back to the Scholars/Sages.  With a rare harvested component which is turned into a rare ink, they can craft Adept III versions of spells.  An Adept III version of a spell is usually better then an Adept I version the chests can contain...

Now, back to the mobs, they can also spawn Master Chests as they are called, a Master chest can contain a Master I spell.  So far, that's the best version of a spell there is.

So, in degrees of effectiveness, Apprentice I is the lowest and Master I is the highest.
Apprentice I <                   Apprentice II < Apprentice III < Apprentice IV <      Adept I <     Adept III < Master I
automatically obtained  <<-- player crafted--------------------------------->         Mob drop    Crafted     Mob drop

Hope this helps some
