I was wondering why other people picked a coercer, myself I picked it because I hoped it would frustrate me back to my old main a Monk.

Once the PvP servers went live I wanted to try my hand in EQ2 PvP with the intention of going back to the blue servers.  So with very little research I basically picked the one class I figured would be the most challenging / potential frustrating. Well needless to say it didn't work out that way I haven't logged on my monk in months lol. My landlord in South Q has probably sold all my stuff and killed all 100 pets wandering around my huge empty house.

The coercer has by far been the most fun / rewarding class I've every played.  With each new lvl I'm shocked at the utility we are given yes we have some bugs and our DD DPS sucks major [Removed for Content] but our ability to "Make the impossible happen" is great.

I have a strange tendency to be drawn to the underdog of classes and this is one time it has paid off.  In EQ1 I was an SK the underdog of Plate Tanks once EQ2 came out I started playing a Monk once again the underdog Tank.

This class provides me with the challenge / reward I've been looking for and even at 51 I know my coercer will always be my Main and my 61 monk will forever be my Alt.

I have a 70 conj main. I love being a mage, and this was extremely similar to my conjuror...but a ton different. So much versatility in which pet you have with charm, and more utility than i can handle. Its a great class to come off of after spending almost two years with my conj.

Four reasons:

a) It is one of the few classes that requires any real thought, or where skill can make a real difference. My main used to be a Templar. Except in very rare circumstances it was just a case of click heal 1, click heal 2, click heal 3, go back to 1 .....

b) I am constantly amazed by the stuff we can pull off by ourselves. When push comes to shove, there is little a Coercer cannot do that another class could.

c) I love how people at the end of the night consistently say "wow, that was a good group" - but few people actually figure out why.

d) The rarity. I have no idea why there are so few Coercers but it makes me feel just a bit more unique than Wizard34289.

Having played one in EQ1 for 5 years (pre KEI to post group buff nerfs~) I had a decent idea of the stress and benefits of a controll class.   I picked it for the stuns and regen as I was an AE group junkie in EQ1.  The days of pulling 80 mobs and the differnce of win and loss is a split second stun timing with a second enchanter has passed for most of us but I enjoy the abiliy to master spells and my EQ2 charm better than my old CoD.  Sometimes I do miss my dumb sword and shield pet out of nostalgia... I think it would make a great fluff spell =p

Holy Cow! What I would give to get old "Shiny Bob" back! He was by far the coolest  most useless pet we have seen.  Now, come to think of it, he really is a ancestor of all these new "Fun Pets" floating everywhere isnt he? :smileyvery-happy:But like others here I picked Coercer because I played my DE Chanter for 5 years and never was satisfied with another class.  Enchanters take so much thought at times that just when you start getting into mindless grind mode, something you do will suprise you and make you smile. Why Coercer over Illusionist? Well I heard it best on the bruiser forums I think:It's Freeport vs. Quiznos... We got all the evil people in Norrath in our walls... They got a pepper bar :smileywink:Qeynosians bug me with all their do-goodiness.

I had played a guardian through 51 levels, and a warlock through 30+ before I decided to come over to Venekor from Lucan D'Lere.  I had no idea what class I wanted to play, but I run with a group of my RL friends here and there was a significant amount of "It's my turn to tank!" and "Okay, it's my turn to..."  So I had the choice of whatever utility class, or the healer.  I thought for a while about what I wanted to do in pvp, and then decided to go with the class I thought would frustrate me the most if I were on the other side of things.  There's nothing in this game, combat-wise, that frustrates me more than being stifled or mezzed.  So I went coercer, and I absolutely love it.  I hear that it gets even better, further down the road, so I can't wait to see where it leads.

I played a necro to 69 and just got burn out. I've been sitting at 69.5 since a couple weeks after KoS came out. Heh. Basically, I loved my pets but I always wanted more of 'em and I wanted to have more options in a fight. So now, almost every mob in the game can become my pet and I can take down a mob twenty different ways. While my necro took a good amount of strategy to play well, with my coercer I really feel like the maestro of the fight. I decide who moves, what they can do, and when they die... at least until something gets resisted then my giant house of cards crashes down around me. It's great! SMILEY

A few reasons...

1:  Tired of being DPS after 60 Levels of Ranger and 50 of Warlock...
2:  Tank and healer just don't see to be my style of play...
3:  Out of all the Utility classes the only one I could even think about playing is a Coercer as Illusionist seems weak and pathetic...and in no way would I play a musical character...(RP reasons)
4:  I think the above poster said it great....Maestro of the fight...

I had a ton of respect for all EQ1 raiding enchanters, and I wanted (and was hoping for) the same type of challenge in EQ2.  No real reason for picking coercer over illusionist though - I only did because my guild decided on starting in FP instead of Qeynos. SMILEY

As others have said, I play a coercer because in the end, after all the problems and complaining, it is still a fun class to play.  You cant do things the same every time, you have to be able to adapt with the situation to be able to win.  I had a templar, leveled him to 50.  Created a coercer, and havent been able to stop playing it since.  I chose it over Illusionist because I wanted to be able to charm things, which is at times dangerous, but can be rewarding with the right pet

Thats it, lol.@Topic: - I love mages... they are the most difficult classes in RPGs. A mistake in your strategy means death.- played sorcerer type of mages in many RPGs, so I didnt want to play them here. - Summoner is interesting, but they are more solo players and they are popular, so I didnt want them. - I wanted an unpopular class and it was a great decision... cheap masters, adepts SMILEY, open mouth group mates, because of the power of enchanters.- Freeport > Qeynos, because NPCs in Freeport are more humorous then in boring Qeynos.

As other people stated, it was/is one of the least played classes, and it seems to require the most thought of any class to play.

Gracjan all I can say you never played enchanter in EQ1 .... SMILEY and if you would ... you'd know that nothing ever can come close to DPS of charmed pet in any SOE games... but once again lol who would know that it would take 16 LU to actually make charm work

CoD might have been very badas but was no where near as reliable as the Mater/adept system of eq2... where in EQ1 your charm ability was dependant on random dice rolls and your charisma stat with a secondary dice roll of int.  But I'd say a good ranger or even an asassin would give a CoD pet even Zek + lvl pets a nice run for their money.  In EQ1 an enchanters dps was allmost entirly based on pet. we didnt have the self dps ability we have in eq2... wich often pigeon holes us in the utility class of EQ1.

Side note I 2 boxed an enchanter/wizard and that pushed me towards coercer rather than illusionist personally.... When I read the forums on coercers and illy back then they were tlaking about coercers having second best DD (after wizard) at the time and I thought that was perfect for my roleplay/dps desires.  and I reeeeeeally like being evil =)
