Under Options -> User Interface -> Game Windows there are some options to control font smoothing and to use a smaller font.  Try changing those to see if it helps.

I have tried them, they just make it worse. It needs a larger font not a smaller one.

The only way I have found to make it readable is to make the backgroun opaque, but it is still harder to read than the old one.

The font is just too small at 1920x1080.

I will be bugging this.

I really like the new UI Quest window.  Much better than before for me.

You do know that you can just hover your mouse over the quest helper and use the scroll wheel to scroll through the quests?  I do agree, though, that it would be helpful to have a small arrow or some other indicator that there are additional quests below.  For folks who are having issues with the quests not showing, etc. try playing around with the options for auto-pinning and auto-moving to top of the list, those might help.  You can also play with the window settings and change opacity/mouse over etc. so that the quest helper is less noticeable, or only shows when you mouse over it.

Regarding the font issue, can someone post a screenshot?  Everything is clear for me on my video settings so I'd like to see what you guys are referring to.  I'm sure we can get it fixed.

As far as adding more quests to the helper or a scrollbar, the original intent was to have it only display a certain number of quests, like 8-10, that you can fit on your screen without scrolling.  But since people play at different resolutions and have a wide variety of layouts, we left it as is, where you can fit more quests than you can see in the window.  We didn't add a scrollbar because it would have been more clutter on the screen, so the window just scrolls on its own if you have your cursor over it.  We could look at changing this, but we are trying to minimize how many UI elements need to be on your screen at once.  Also, if you decided that you liked having the quest helper on the left side of the screen, the scrollbar would appear to be floating in the middle of your UI and probably wouldn't look that good.

Please continue to give your feedback so we can make this window more useful for everyone!

Here is my 2 cents . . . .

  1. Outstanding job on this thing. As an avid quester I am finding the new features of it quite useful.
  2. Thanks for changing the flash to be a little more subtle, much better now
  3. Understand the rational for not adding a scrollbar which would add clutter so may I offer this suggestion that actually is a part of the Fetish UI - navigation buttons on the title bar of the window. We can advance forward and backward through the quests displayed in the helper which let you bring a particular quest to the top position, displaying 3 at a time in the window (which is the shortcoming, like having more available so moving through them easier will be FTW)
  4. Having a way to collapsing the quests within the quest helper would be useful as well although if #3 is implemented it might be moot. The reason . . .some quests have multiple large steps which show because they are all the same. IE. 'Find a relic about X' and it shows 4 times because you have to find 4 of them and it becomes the only quest you can see in the helper window. Collapsing it to the quest name, in that case might be useful as well.

Again, nice job Rothgar and thanks.

I agree about the font, it's hard to read...and I don't have any custom UI either. The multiple quests up there, I'm neutral on atm, but disliked it when I first saw it, and I usually hate change at first so decided to have an open mind and change my stance to neutral. I know it's one of those things that's going to be useful and will just have to get used to it.

Edit:  Pesky commas

I give it two months before the first person posts - "I just came from WoW, and you guys here at EQ2 are totally copying them with this guild experience thing."  I once read somebody post that WoW was the first 3D MMO.  He HONESTLY believed that.

Can I make a suggestion?  A common solution for this in current interface design is a 'hint bar' type of thing at the  bottom of the window.. either in the form of a faint downwards arrow across the bottom/top if there is overflowed content, or as a fading out of the content in the last narrow portion of the window. holding or clicking the mouse on this hint bar scrolls the window without adding any actual noticeable UI element.

I don't know if my readability problem is the same as others, but I think mine is the font being on the small side for me to begin with at the screen resolution I use and then it looks like it went from bold text to plain text.  I overlapped an old image and a new one at the same size and took a screenshot and then cropped it.  It's not unreadable, just harder...

How hard would it be to add the checkboxes to group member quests? I have to say not being able to see the quest info when I'm helping friends work on their quests is the biggest Quest Helper annoyance! Of course we had the same problem with the old Quest Journal, it's just not any better now with the shinny new one. SMILEY

Otherwise I like the new Journal. No problem with fonts, but I have the default UI.

I will try to remember to /feedback this tonight when I get home. SMILEY

Thanks Rothgar!

Wow, great suggestion! Adding shared or friends quests would be really nice if possible. +1 from me if it can be done.

Hey rothy

Right, heres a picture of what I see, its readable, but its very hard to see. At least for me and a few others.

My resolution is 1280 x 800 on a 19" widescreen.

I like the function of having multiple quests at once... I can see where it could be useful, personally I like to focus on one quest at a time, having to tick/untick quests to decide what I want to use is a pain. But I can live with it. My idea was just being able to tick them all and minimizing the window to only show the top one... That way I could use the quest helper as I was using before.

Anyway! My main issue is the blurryness. I am having trouble with it. I have a feeling its because its white with a black outline? Maybe its my gamma? Maybe its the resolution? Its readable but its very hard no the eyes for me.

Before I finish this off Rothy, My guild is complaining the most about Tradeskill rush order writs. They are not going to the top of the journal, after getting the writ you need to find the writ in your journal and tick it. This is making tradeskilling very hard. IF you have things ticked you then need to find something to untick, and then go back and tick the rush order writ.

This needs to be fixed right away SMILEY Rush order Writs are important to guild leveling and Tradeskill leveling. (But you know that) Maybe you can have one tick box reserved for the rush order writ, and a rush order writ auto ticks and goes to the top?

Trust me - it'd be worse without the black outline.  Without that, letters would get lost in some backgrounds.

maybe a suggestion for people doing quests zone by zone, to make a checkbox for zones as well. It'll add all quests you have in the zone to the questhelper instead of checking them one by one.

I would like the ability to double click the box and bring up up like it worked before. Sometimes I use 'J' other times I double click.

Sort by current zone, auto ticks all quests for current zone...

That would be useful, long as writs goto the top.  Might sort the writ problem to?

Though... doesn't answer what to do with the font for those of us who is blury for lol

My only initial complaints is that the quest names are no longer colored to reflect thier levels. It took me a little bit to notice that they're now shown by a colored dust icon.

Seriously? You had to use the Powder/Dust/Loam graphic icons for quest difficulty instead of making something more professional for the UI?

I wouldn't say it's horrible, but none of the new features are useful for me, and it breaks both the custom quest UI's I liked to use, so on the whole I am displeased.

I don't want multiple quests showing.  My screen is cluttered enough already without having to find room for a bigger quest helper window.  I would like a quest helper that shows the one quest I am most interested in tracking, with a simple way to choose when I pick up a new quest whether to keep the old quest visible, or replace it with the new one.

That works for me right now.  Double-click the listed quest and the journal comes up TO that quest directly.  Now as for if it's empty does the journal come up, I dunno, but it definitely comes up for the quest I clicked on, though it may only be if you double-click the name of the quest.  I don't know THAT specifically, but it does work at least a bit.

Some other great suggestions in this thread.  Definitely would like sorting options of some kind for the active window.

You can do this already, you just have to click on the quest name.  We didn't make the whole window clicky due to the fact that more people will make this window a lot larger than before since it holds multiple quests.  You can now set the window as "clickthrough" and it actually works so you don't block your cursor from clicking on things behind it.

Colored dust icon?  Give us a little more credit than that!  SMILEY

We started out color-coding the quest names by their con color, but it was a bit overwhelming having all those colors in the list.  Some were not readable depending on the background.  It works much better in the journal where everything is printed on a dark background, but it didn't look that great in the new window.

Since we eliminated the coloring on the quest name, we added icons next to them that indicate con and tier.   The higher the difficulty of the quest, the more triangles are shown on the icon.  Solo = 1, Heroic = 2, Epic = 3.  No loam icons were harmed in the making of this new icon.  SMILEY

Thanks for posting the comparison picture.  I think I know what you guys are referring to. We changed the font style in the new window so we could fit more text in less space, but perhaps this isn't as readable for some people. I'll keep an eye on the feedback before making any more changes though.  At this point people are probably split and anything we do will just have someone else upset.  SMILEY

As far as the black outline, without that, the text would be impossible to read on a bright background.

I really like the new quest helper window, including the reduced font and the new checkbox system (both on the helper window and in the main quest journal). It's one of my favorite parts of this expansion.

Good job!

Rothgar, was it an intended change with this new helper, that when you complete a quest, it is just added to the list in the completed tab of the journal, but not displayed in the right side of the journal?

Before the expansion you could always see the last quest you completed when you opened the completed tab, now you actually have to dig through the list to find it, if you cen even remember the name.

That was not an intended change.  I never even noticed that the last completed quest was automatically selected in the completed tab.  But I imagine this happend as a result of the changes that the quest journal had to go through to support the new quest helper.
