I am worried about my race being Dark Elf as a guardian now after seeing my AC

Shoot for the 1K mark, and go from there. 900+ is perfectly fine though. I am personally trying to break 1100 at 21. It helps being an armorer. I am just short of making leggins and chests. When i get those made, i should finally be over the 1100 hump. Striving to always have the best AC has been my goal since becoming a warrior.

When I turned 20 my AC was only like 400. I was getting beat up pretty bad, it was a big difference from 19. Go to the broker and buy a set of armor and if you can't afford that go to the merchant and buy a set of armor. Start with BP then do Pants then Arms. After turning 21 I had my AC past 900.

Give the Armor Quest a whirl... once you're done with all 6 you'll only need a good helmet.

I'm not sure whether it is possible to have 1000 at lvl 20, but it certainly isn't difficult to have your ac quite close to it. You should first buy vanguard or carb plate armor from the vendor (the armorsmith in Qeynos Harbor has it cheapest, unless you're Freeport-based) and then quest your armor. Also, buy gold/agate jewelry, no reason you shouldn't have them all by lvl 22. Wheel & deal a little, make friends with jewelers, gather resources for them, etc.A good baseline to go from is quest armor + gold jewelry + player-crafted helm + tower shield from a vendor or players. All this is easily attainable by lvl 23-24 and should serve you well until 29-30, at which point you'll start upgrading again SMILEYFor comparison: my guardian is currently lvl 26 and running around with 1521 unbuffed ac. This seems to work well for any tanking he's had to do this far, considering that clerics will add ~100ac, druids will add ~250 and shamans anywhere in between, making his effective ac anywhere from 1650 to 1800, depending on the healers in the group. Any tanks I run into of a similar level wearing similar gear have roughly the same ac, with paladins having a litle less since they can't use a tower shield.

A good guide at least to level 30 (its what I have managed to do) is to have your AC up around  your HP unbuffed.  So right now at level 30 I am ~1900Hp and 1900+AC Unbuffed.

You can have 1k at 20, you just need to have a crude ash tower shield, should be 200some ac at 20.
