Planes of Prophecy Beta: Weapon Leveling

First things first. The way weapons level in beta is wholly due to it being beta. I tried to make this obvious by having everything involved include beta in the name. The exception to that statement is the Planar Weapon Essences, which are the actual item you will be able to break weapons down into on live. Please keep that in mind when providing feedback.

Most Planes of Prophecy weapons can be broken down into Planar Essence's with the Beta: Extract Planar Essence spell, which can be purchased from Finch. Once you have Planar Weapon Essence's, you can then feed them into the Crossbow of Beta with the Beta: Planar Weapon Leveling ability, also purchased from Finch.

When a weapon levels, it will display its new Planar Level on the examine window, and it will provide increased stats. The stat increases are a static multiplier per level on Primary Stats, Potency, Ability Modifier, and Resolve, and they increase by 5% per Planar Level as of this beta build.

Currently the ONLY weapon in beta that will level is the Crossbow of Betas. That isn't a bug, it is due to the way the leveling spell needs to be set up to sidestep the actual system that levels items.

Can't use the Crossbow of Betas without ammo. You can get the ammo from the beta buffer but it won't go into the ammo pouch and the weapon won't work unless it has ammo. I've got 1600 of the Plain Rhenium Crossbow Bolts in my bags but it won't use it from my bags.

Is the extract planar essence supposed to give an essence from a weapon or a fragment for infusing? I tried it on a weapon last night and got what appears to be an infuser ingredient, similar to as if I had salvaged an item.

I used Extract Planar Essence on a weapon drop from an overland named and received a Planar Weapon Essence.
Click Planar Weapon Leveling after, however, did nothing. the Planar Weapon Essence isn't 'usable'...
I have the crossbow equipped.
How are we supposed to apply the essence to the weapon?

Would it be possible to add the Crossbow of Beta or a "fake one" to census before it goes live?
I know the weapon doesn't go live that way and it prolly changes during the beta but it would be "nice" to see how leveling weapons will be shown on census.
If it's not possible to add it to census now .. would be possible to get it just as xml or json?

if not no problem at all, can figure them out once they go live.

You can remove the ammo pouch and put a stack of 200 arrows in the pouch slot. You have to restock when the 200 run out, but at least it lets you use the crossbow.

i have 97% strk thru and 40% accuracy and the beta crossbow is missing most of the shots (on my templar) but on my zerker with almost no strikethru and no accuracy it doesnt miss. if i swap to my wand i have 0 problems

i have notice on the crossbow u cant see the lvling of it once u use the thing tolvl it up. i see in chat where it said it got powerful but no level or how much more to go with lvling

Maybe you need to Max Ranged weapon skill ( zerker will have maxed ranged skill and Templar not)

Priests and mages don't GET the ranged skilll.. and examining the new 'Aim' skill.. that is what is 'supposed' to be used for the crossbows

What is the Max "Planar Level" any one weapon can go up to Caith? 10 or 100 or what?

Level 10

I have a few question regarding how it will be released:

1) To increase the crossbow to level 1 I needed 10 planar essences for level 1, and it now requires 20 more for level 2.

- Is the progression linear : 30 for level 3, ... 100 for level 10 (550 in total) ?
- Are some weapons requiring more than "10 x level " planar essence per level ?
- Will we have a chance to get more than 1 planar essence depending of the weapon tier we break ? (1 for legendary, 2 for fabled ...)
- Is there some plan to get back some additional planar essence when we break an upgraded weapon ? (5 planar essence when we break a level 1 weapon, 15 at level 2, ...)
- Will there be other ways to get planar essences : quest rewards, buy them with currencies ?
- What tag could be expected on live for the planar essence : no-trade, heirloom, or tradable ?

I could expect players doing "need" on every wepon until the end of the expension, if you need 550 (at least) for the crossbow, 550 more for the epic wepon, 550 again when you finally upgrade your epic weapon, and 550 more for any upcoming upgradable weapon, there will be a massive expectation from players to be able to upgrade their weapons and a lot of bad feedback if they could not. And I'm not even considering how alts will be able to upgrade their weapons..

Hopefully we will see a lot more weapons dropping in solo/group content, I did not see much in the beta so far, except some named outdoor that will get farmed day and night.

2) When I have upgraded the crossbow to level 1 it gains 5% base potency and 5% base resolve

- Is the stat increase always the same for each level (5% potency and resolve) ? Or does it change at each level, example lvl 2 could be 5% potency and something else ?
- Do we gain more stats when the weapons gain some levels or the level 10 ? exemple at level 5 and 10 we could gain some additional crit bonus overcap, fervor, fervor overcap, ability mod ...

There are not many weapon drops in the timeline, at least that I have seen so far through 2 Faction lines and the Solo quest line up to where we are locked currently due to content being worked on. It seems like people will be needing on all weapon drops just to upgrade there Crossbows or Epic Weapons, making it harder for people to get the upgraded weapons they need because people will be needing on everything just to break them down in Duo or Heroic zones. If they are going to drop more in Dou and Heroic Zones, is there a plan to keep this from being a bottle neck so people don have to spend months grinding and competing for weapons to level up? Possibly make a way for people to get more weapon drops in solo zones? If that many weapons are needed to tier up to the max level, it is looking like there needs to be significantly more drops or a way to acquire weapons to break down a bit more user friendly. Allow all gear to be broken down in to essences, possibly?

Is the planar leveling effecting by infusing? In other words, if I infuse completely at level 0, will the stats be higher at L10 than they would be if I waited to L10 to infuse, or does the leveling *only* effect the base stats?

Infusing uses the leveled amount for the maximum allowed infusion, but other then that leveling your weapons it doesn't interact with infusing. So it will not matter if you infuse at level 0, or at level 10.

I just upgraded the crossbow of betas to level 5, it took 125 upgrades bought from the beta merchant

Crossbow of Betas = 29 resolve, 313.2 Potency
0-1.. 10 Planar Weapon Essence = 30.5 Resolve, 328.9 Potency
1-2.. 10 Planar Weapon Essence = 31.9 Resolve, 344 Potency
2-3.. 25 Planar Weapon Essence = 33.3 Resolve, 360 Potency
3-4.. 35 Planar Weapon Essence = 34.8 Resolve, 375 Potency
4-5.. 45 Planar Weapon Essence = 36.2 Resolve, 391.5 Potency
5-6.. 65 Planar Weapon Essence = didn't bother to test it

1 = 1.5 resolve, 14.7 Potency
2 = 1.4 resolve, 15.1 Potency
3 = 1.4 resolve, 16 Potency
4 = 1.5 resolve, 15 Potency
5 = 1.4 resolve, 16.5 Potency

Unless you are upgrading the range slot and not the range item, its not going to be worth getting to level 10.

They've said it will. Currently in beta, however, the crossbow is the only leveling item.
