It's about that time of year. You know, Erollisi Day! The people in the real world call it Valentine's Day, but we'll let them think what they want to think. If you fell in love while playing a massively multiplayer game and ended up getting together in real life, we want to know your story. How did you fall for each other? Do you have similar play styles in the game? Did one of you use a witty pickup line in chat to attract the other? Are you a male/female pair in the game? Are you a male/female pair in real life? Are you a male/female pair in the game but male/male in real life? Any other interesting combination? We want to know how the game, not just the ability to chat with each other, brought you two together. If you're willing to speak with us further and potentially be featured in a magazine or on a website, email me at [email protected].

Hate to be devil's advocate here BG, but what about male/male couples or female/female?  You're gonna upset someone by excluding...

"Are you a male/female pair in the game? Are you a male/female pair in real life?"This question carries the assumption that not all couples are heterosexual, although the question is a bit oddly phrased SMILEY

Actually, I read that as him asking the question, not limiting who can reply.

It's SOE's game: they can set what ever rules they want for what ever event they want, so long as they aren't breaking any laws. Male/female couples have always been traditional for Valentine's Day, so, if others do something different, there's no law forcing Sony to comply with people's lifestyle choices.

well, traditional is a woman wanting valentine's day gifts, and a man going broke buying overpriced flowers, candy, and jewelry.  The eq2 community has a LOT of diversity.  This should be addressed in a spirit of openness

oooh, oooh, in the spirit of "anti-Valentines day" such as some of us like to celebrate on Earth, can we have a corresponding Innoruuk day complete with stories of people who wrecked their relationships by playing too much? SMILEY

"Tying the knot" is a coloquiallism for "got married".  Since there are only a few places that recognise same gender legal marriages (and California is not one of them), that already presupposes it is hetro relationships only.Personally, I think it's rather... biased and prejudicial, but I am also well aware that the majority of the states and countries where EQ2 is marketed have "taboos" or prohibitions against same gender relationships and their MSRB rating might suffer if they openly acknowledged them.  Whether I am hetro or not has absolutely no bearing on my opinion on this.

I'll reword it. The idea is that the folks we're helping get the information are especially interested in NON male/female couples. For example, perhaps there is a male/female couple in the game that is male/male or female/female in real life. They want to know about that.

And further amended to remove "tying the not" because we care more that you're together in real life than actually married. Sorry for the misleading text.

I have no idea what his intentions were in the game, but I read it quite differently than most seemed to have. I read the first question, well... first. "Are you a male/female pair in the game?" I know many people who play characters of the oposite sex (mostly guys who play female characters.) So is your "pair" male/female? Second question, are you also in RL. For example, you are a girl who plays a female and you meet a female character in the game. You fall in love. But in real life, is the other person really female, too, or a guy playing a female character.

I didn't really read anything into his post until I read the replys. And while I agree that the question is worded kinda strange, I don't think anything was meant by it. He was just trying to explain what information they will be looking to receive, otherwise they are going to get a whole lot of emails that just read "Yes, I met my wife in EQ, one day in Antonica. We lived happly ever after." That doesn't help much, does it?

A couple is a couple.. opposing gender or not.. there's no reason for them to NOT include like-gender couples.. This is an international game, and there are a LOT of countries that recognize same-sex relationships and even allowing them to "tie the not"..

Anyhow.. this isn't a debate to be had on the forums.. will just result in mass flames, and religous debates :smileywink: Sorry I brought it up

Nothing like seeing a thread with positive intentions derailed into a political discussion.

I agree.  Let's get back to discussing the importance of Innorruuk day and how much we loathe the happy couples of the world and the commercials and stores which serve as a wonderful constant reminder of how single you are SMILEYI hate the Tier'Dal but on February 14th, I'm siding with their god! A post about your particular morals doesn't have anything to do with expressing your hate for all happy couples on February 14th.  I don't care if they're hetero or homosexual, if they're happy on February 14th they've got to go. Oh, though I do rather dislike the cross-species thing.  Any of you ever come home and find your significant other watching some orc on gnome por...  actually, that's probably not something that we want to share...

I never said anything about having any kind of hate for happy couples. Invest in glasses please.

Exactly, you missed the point of February 14th completely by focusing on your particular morals.  You're supposed to be expressing your deep and abiding hate for happy couples on that day.

Can those of us disgruntled by significant others who forget when the 14th is join in?  (and I have a birthday 2 days before... which will probably be ignored as well.. even with nearly club over the head reminders *laugh*)Actually, it would be cool in game to have 2 sets of quests (and only be able to do one or the other on any character), one about the love-y-dove-y stuff and one grumbling about it.

I have to agree also...for once, how about not letting what was well intentioned turn into a moral, political, and life philsophy debate? There are times and places for those, and this is not one of those times or places...

Go to town!  We'll still fire the ceremonial catapult at you for having a significant other at all, but if you're really nice we'll use your SO as the ammo.

I hope for your sake you get separate Valentines Day and Birthday gifts, instead of one Happy Birthday/Valentines Day gift.  People's who's birthdays fall around Christmas, and Valentines day have this sad curse.  :smileysad:
