Hi all, dunno if you've seen the article on Yahoo! yet, so thought I'd post it...--------------------------------------------Sony Puts Pizza Ordering in VideogamesFri Feb 25, 7:29 AM ET Technology - APPETER SVENSSON, AP Technology WriterNEW YORK - Demonstrating a deep understanding of what its computer-gaming audience, Sony has built the ability to order pizza into its latest online multiplayer game. Type the command "/pizza" while playing Everquest II, a fantasy game with 330,000 active players, and get the Pizza Hut Web site, where you can place orders for delivery.Chris Kramer, spokesman for Sony Online Entertainment, said he believes this is the first time a game accepts orders for real-world items.Sony plans to integrate the pizza function more tightly into the game, so players can charge pizza to their monthly game subscription bill."The goal for the future is to eventually let people do more things like this," Kramer said. "They could type /harry potter and get the new Harry Potter (news - web sites) book delivered or /star wars and get the new Star Wars DVD."Many games incorporate ads and product placements, but such opportunities are limited with fantasy games like Everquest.Though the new pizza feature might satisfy appetites, caution is required as the game doesn't pause while you're ordering."You wouldn't want to order pizza in the thick of combat, but anywhere that's safe is a good place," said Kramer

Wonder how much Pizza Hut is paying Sony to have them do this?  Apparently enough to offset the number of people quitting the game.  330,000 Active players,  Maybe active accounts but how many of those people have logged in lately?

I apologize if I seem cynical but this is imo a grasp at a straw to help subsidize an otherwise bad turn of events for Sony in regards to the game.

That would be a really stupid reason to quit the game. It has absolutely no impact on gameplay, and absolutely no intrusion into the game world.

Advanced Provisioner 4:
Taco (1 rodent meat, 1 packet of spice, 1 bread, 1 fuel) : heartburn duration (34 min)

Advanced Provisioner 5:
Pepsi (1 water, 1 lemon (rare harvest), 1 sugar, 1 fuel)

Advanced Provisioner 9:

Of course, it won't be until:

Advanced Provisioner 19:

It's really an outrage actually.I don't know about anyone else, but I think they're basically selling us out.

LOL about the /beer comment.  Move to Europe, they will deliver beer.  Waiting for /cigarettes hehe

I dont think its an outrage so much as they are 'selling out' as it is a comment on how lazy the player base is.  Want pizza, pick up a phone.  Need to check news, go to windowed mode.

It is an ingenious idea on Sony's part to make some more cash though.

You know what, if that was in fact the case.  If it pulled up your address etc etc automatically, i would probably use it.  I hate having to chase down my credit card when ordering online.  Now, if they put a /orderlastpizza  in it, where it would just place an order the same as the last one you had, mmmmm, my laziness would be complete.

What sucks about it is that it just does the simple task of going to the pizza hut website.  I wanted to see the thing open an actual EQ window in game.  And while they are busy filling that request of mine, they need to definately switch to Papa John's.  And then, if they have time, they can get those guys at Trillian to hookup an ingame window for the best chat client ever.

For those wondering about the "/harry potter" and "/star wars" commands, those are entirely hypothetical and are not to be taken literally.

I told all you fanbois that /pizza was only the beginning. "S-T-F-U, this is only ONE advertisement command." is what I'd hear...Hmm, "told ya so" is SOOOOO gratifying. The floodgates are now open. Get ready for ingame adverts and spam.
