Elder Yelnar (raid ts apprentice)

So what's the deal with this guy? Are there prerequisites to be able to see him?  I went in with 2 level 92 characters, both have Deshniak (the solo ts apprentice), both have done the tradeskill questline in WL, neither one can see Yelnar.  Trying to figure out what I need to do to be able to see him.

At this point I think it's just bugged.  I don't think it's a prerequisite to see him, but something that is blocking certain people from seeing him.  I have alts that haven't done a single quest in the new GU, and even one that has completed a total of 90 quests in the entire game, and they all could see Elder Yelnar and get his quest.  But my main, which is 92/92 and not only done the GU crafting questline, but a lot of the quests in WL, can't see him at all to get this quest.

I bugged this in game as our guild had the same issue.  Some could see and some could not with no real reasoning behind which ones could and which ones could not.  Being stuck is the camp that couldn't sucks so I'm hoping this is an easy fix.

I had no problem seeing him with heroic TS assitant, 92 crafter epic, shawl etc.

Not sure if there is any requirement, but others in raid said they could see him, but some that should have been able to were not.

It is possible (and it should be) that you MUST have completed the access requirements for the zone to see him.

Did you check the TS level of the players? Could be something like "level 90 tradeskillers will see him but not level 92 players" like the poney?

Negative, I have the access completed.  And as I stated earlier, I can zone in alts that haven't done ONE single quest (even an alt with 90 quests completed total in the entire game) in this GU and they can see the npc, but my main can't.  Something is preventing some toons from seeing this NPC, but I have no idea what it is.

He's at the end of the zone, off on an island near where the last encounter spawns. He gives you a quest which updates when you loot the item from Dozekar's chest. Dozekar has a chance of dropping 1 per kill I believe.

Yeah we covered pretty much all that stuff in raid chat last night.  One question for those that could see him do you currently have a heroic tradeskill apprentice researching a recipe? no idea why one would effect the other but it was all I can think of atm.  It isn't related to access, or tradeskill lvl, or completing the skyshrine tradeskill quests...it would be nice if it could be tied down to something like that.

A raiding friend of mine found him last night, but said he wasn't offering any quest? Should he have a quest feather, dialog?

Yeah I couldn't see him either.  Others could but couldn't get quest b/c they were too low TS level.  I am also 92, 90 in crafting, and have done the WL questline.  A few guildies were 90 and 91 and were able to get it.  Please devs, could use feedback.

The Yelnar TS Apprentice is supposed to be broker-tradeable so tradeskill level should not be required. Might be an accidental prerequisite.

my 92/92 could not see him, but my 92/51 could. my 92/51 could not get quest tho because i was not a 'grandmaster' crafter. my 92/51 hasnt done any access, but my 92/92 has completed it.

As far as we ever worked out, he is just bugged.

I could see him on my ranger who is a level 2 artisan, but couldnt get anything from him

I could also see him on my Beastlord who isnt even a level 2 artisan.

Guild members who are 90/92/master tradeskillers/access flagged/whatever else, still some could see him, and some couldn't.

I think its just bugged, or intended to be ony certain people can see him each time.

Do you have to clear up to Dozekar to be able to get to him? I see him as I am flying down to the great hall but I don't think I can get there on my own. I see alot of people here saying they've brought toons there but not sure if all of them are in guilds that have cleared it.

yes, he would not give my 92/51 the quest and dialogue mentioned not being a grandmaster.

i was thinking maybe the code to see npc was set for if tradeskill level >=90, since 51 could see but 92 could not. and code to receive quest is based on solstice earring.

grandmaster could also mean solstice earring? i will make sure my 92/92 has that. its not one of my primary 9, so i prolly dont have earring on him.

any other ideas what 'grandmaster' might refer to?

I believe you do, otherwise there are quite a few enemies blocking the way.

I will bet money this is not a bug, just think it thru.

Would it make sense for this NPC to show up to anyone that zoned into a raid zone?  If that were true the first guild to clear to him could then just sell access to their instance to everyone else on the server.  Or in general access to this NPC would be sold by raid guilds.

Or, would it make since for the first raid to kill him to instantly get 24 apprentices if you want to control the speed at which they enter the game?  Or heck, imagine if they could bring all their alts as well?

I think it may be as simple as a flag for the zone awarded at random when the timer is created.  Some can get the quest, some can not.  It will take time for everyone who raids to get one.

Until SoE confirms it as a bug, I suspect it is not, for what to me are justifiable reasons not to make him available to everyone instantly.

Except to complete the quest you have to get a drop off of Dozekar and there is only one per chest (perhaps there can be more?) so no matter how many people can see him only one is getting the apprentice so there is no need to limit who can see the quest giver.

92/92 cant see him while no quest completed 92/90 from other characters can.

wish we could get an answer from a dev about this.

same problem with the advanced solo one as well

This is GM Audleigh responding to your petition. I am sorry to hear that you are having trouble seeing Elder Yelnar. You are not alone! We have received word from a number of players who have also been unable to see Yelnar. We have alerted our Development Team, and they are currently working on fix, which should go live very soon. Unfortunately, at this point in time we aren't able to assist with this and can only ask for your patience until the fix goes live.

So it IS a bug and they are "working on it".  Every day that passes is a day I'm missing out on researching, so I hope they figure this out soon.

Considering you only get a maximum of one drop per kill anyway, I'm sure you aren't missing out that much.

Depends on how they do raid loot for this type of item, you don't know what they are or are not missing out on.

If it is DKP and they have enough or are willing to spend more than anyone else is then they are missing out.

The zone is broken anyway so just TO GET THERE you have to have GM intervention, which I have this uneasy feeling that the GM's are not going to be aware of this and youwill get the same reply that the person got for the apprentice.

Complacency and the willingness of some people to just write off all of these HUGE bugs that impact the highest level zones/items as if it is just a minor detail like a spelling or gender typo in a quest dialog is part of the reason these things continue to show up.

Ok, I got some more news...

So from what I gather, you get the quest from the NPC behind Dozekar, kill Dozekar, get the item if you're lucky. Then go back to PNJ who gives you a recipe for the actual orb.

You'll need to craft it using :

• the drop from Dozekar (one per raid?)
• 5 osmium
• 5 rare pelts
• 5 rare roots
• 5 rare wood

Then come back to the NPC in the instance.

I assume the recipe stays in journal so you can craft it another time if you get another head.

Ok...

All that to gain the right to WAIT 18 DAYS to get a recipe that you'll need 6 raid drops to craft and then rince repeat for next tradeskiller?

Sorry, but only thing I can think of now is: ARE YOU DESIGNERS UTTERLY MAD?

the farther away the rewards get...the more convinced i am that these products need to be mythical. they need to be BETTER than the actual drops that come from betrayal in underdepths.

it takes:

92 tradeskiller

research prism drop (1 dropped per UD timer)

18 days per recipe

rare mats (dropped x4)

vs a regular raid drop just being a single drop (x4).

the recipe armor should have red slots added...its more exclusive than a mere dozekar drop. its x4 loot, and then some.

if the above poster is correct, then it will require easily 500 plat in rare harvest mats (after you were lucky enough to get the 1 prism drop from a raid that cleared UD).

for every layer of challenge and difficulty requires that much greater reward. you cannot have raid apprentice loot that is  inferior IN ANY WAY to what is dropping in the zone by default, especially when researcher is only available after a full clear. currently the raid apprentice armor has no red slot, what the hell is that?

this is NOT crafter loot, this isnt even raider loot. this requires both, and should reflect that.

if this was crafter loot i would have 9+ yelnar researchers slaving away in my workshop. i currently have -zero-.

btw I raid and my guild has cleared UD, and i am more than a little bitter that i have no access to mats, let alone recipes. its been hard to give up the idea that i could be in control of my crafting in every aspect (my 20+ deshniak researches will complete on sunday), would mean a lot to me if the unattainable yelnar rewards reflected that. this reward is beyond my scope as a master crafter and HM raider. how arrogant of me to think that the raid mats would go to me, 1 in 24. feels bad to see the gear has same adornments slots as legendary armor, and its above my pay grade.

That's insane. They should just remove the apprentice and put the loot on Dozekar or move the recipes to Deshniak.
