At this point it is not indivual issues, it is a server performance issue, so giving people who wants it an out for the benefit of everyone should pay off on the long run.

Only opening for free servers transfers from "overcrowded" to "undercrowded" servers would be terrific.

Keep the SC transfers for the opposit or with medium size servers.

Yep, its so overpopulated it took Nagafen down with it.

Actually, yes, probably did.  We know they colocate clusters of servers together.  Some of the same hardware is shared amongst 3-4 of the lower populated servers (or at least they used to).  With Freeport being as populated as it is maybe they decided to only share it's hardware amongst one other server (Nagafen).

You can actually see which servers are together by doing a traceroute.  Tracert to Oasis and Permafrost (and I think Crushbone too, going off memory here) and you find they're actually on the east coast.  Yet Guk, Butcherblock, and another one are in another center on the west coast.  Freeport (sdkeq2-25-01.everquest2.com) is carried by AT&T (with pings in the 70s), as is Nagafen (AT&T).  Meanwhile other servers are carried by Limelight Networks instead of AT&T.

Freeport vs Baazar.. I think it's too crowded for my taste (too crowded for the hardware as well ) !

Yes both servers are on the same hardware. The Bazaar used to be on the same hardware as Runnyeye and Sebilis. After the mergers Freeport and Nagafen are tied together.

I was going to make tonight the night where I sit down and complete all of the quests in WL over a bottle of wine and a Dominos pizza! Was just about ready to zone and get my order on, then I crashed out. Now I'm sat here with this bottle of wine and I have nothing to do apart from drink this wine. Oh man, you guys are gonna be in trouble now!! I'm kinda thinking.. I don't know how long this will take, so... I might just make a tuna sweetcorn pasta thing.

What are you guys doing during the great outage of 18th April 2012?

Ever have one of those wall switches that make you think,"I wonder what this does?", well somebody at Sony just answered their own question...

This was posted on the Everquest Facebook site. Probably related.

We are investigating the connection issues with the EverQuest servers and are working to resolve the issues as quickly as possible. Thank you for your patience and we will keep you posted. - Naylie

Whatever happened took EQ1 and Vanguard servers down with it. Someone must have opened the door on the hamster cage and the SOE folks are trying to round em up

The EQ1 servers have been down for five minutes; Freeport's been down for an hour and fifteen minutes.

At least SOE is (barely) talking to them... "Emergency maintenance" is what they're calling it.

(edit) And they have an ETA of an hour from now.

http://www.soe.com/status/ must be broken then.  Yet another thing SOE can't do right.

not sure what that is supposed to show, but the very thread you linked is time stamped 10:18, about 28 minutes after the eq1 servers died (about 9:50 at which time i headed to wal-mart for an sc card which they are still sold out of)

I hope that everything is ok. I can imagine that they are rushed off their feet. Maybe a main router had gone down or something. Good luck all.

Maybe it controls the SOE main router - you should turn it on just in case.

many times this turns out to be a switch to an outlet, where the top outlet is switched, but the bottom is not. if the oulet is replaced and wired wrong, the switch no longer does anything.
