I'm guessing there's no way to have this turned off by default rather than having to go into each and every character and saying no. /sigh

Linked alts are not shown by default, players are. If it is too cumbersome and bothersome for you to uncheck it on each then it obviously isn't that big of an issue to you. You have to look at from the point that they want to encourage the use of this, not discourage it otherwise a lot of $, time and energy were wasted. There was nothing wrong with the default option of the characters showing in the data feed, the hogwash about it being a privacy issue is just that and nothing more. I again challenge anyone to demonstrate how this can be used to obtain any information about the account holder, until that can be done the privacy rants are just that... HOGWASH.

One has nothing to do with the other, so you can hold the "Privacy issue" discussion for folks talking about that.

I was asking for sheer convenience. While it might be turned on by default, there's no reason to penalize individuals who want it off by saying they have to log on to each and every of 5, 10, 15, or however many toons just to say "No", No", "No", "No", ......

That would be no different than saying that if you order a dozen hot dogs, but don't want mustard on any that you have to say "I want one hot dog with no mustard" twelve times instead of just saying "12 hot dogs and no mustard on any of them".If that's the only way, then that's how you have to do it, but it's a lot better service to allow the option to have a blanket statement of "No".

They could just add a checkbox (that may be unchecked by default) that says "Turn off EQ2Players feed for this account". At least then it would only require it to be done once per account. That way people who don't want it can turn it off and never have to mess with it again, those who do don't have to do a thing, and those who don't care don't have to do a thing.

Is there anyway to have a guild roster on a guild portal site now?  At one point you could do that from the old eq2players site.  How would you go about doing that now?  I can't use rostermaster as its just the Guildportal site and not my own php site.

Your best bet would be to get a dirt cheap webhost, and install RosterMaster on it.  Then, you can have a link on your Guild Portal site that points back to the roster on that other webhost.

Otherwise, you will have to wait for Guild Portal to start taking advantage of the provided data feeds to offer a native guild roster, or look at a Javascript-based solution.

The way I see it, still displaying a name in the guild roster while being set to not share your account info with the data feeds is a non-issue when it comes to privacy.  Why?  Because unless you already know the person is in that guild, you CANNOT find in which guild he is.  If you do a search based on his name on the data feed, you will get zero hits.  So if you already know in which guild he is, then there is nothing to hide.  Someone who wanted to hide himself for some reason could get a name change, and become a totally anonymous face within the guild.

There is a distinction between privacy (where you do exist in the records, but no info can be found about you unless you KNOW what you are looking for - such as your current guildmates would) and being anonymous (which does not exist in any MMORPG at all - you play the game, people see your character in the game world, with your name above your head).

Asking to be fully anonymous would be akin to asking for your character to not appear in the game world at all either.

I'm anxiously awaiting eq2players to see what kind of privacy settings you allow. Currently all my toons have opted out, but I'll gladly add them back in after eq2players launches if I'm able to control how much information is available for them, like we have always been able to do. Its my choice if I want others to see my gear, AA, spell upgrades, stats, etc. I hope there will be a way to release some, but not all, the information. Until that is available, my toons will remain opted out.

Also, I think names SHOULD remain on the guild roster so that information is accurate. Alot of people check guild rosters when considering apping for a guild to see if there is anyone they might know. My characters are opted out but I show up in my guild roster on EQ2U (not QuestForever app which also uses the data feeds) as a name with no other information (not even class). I am part of the guild, and that should show up, even if my characters are opted out of sharing the information.

Currently what you are wanting is not going to be an option on EQ2players either, this has been suggested in the developers forums and may come at some point but at the moment it is not on the immediate horizon.

Knowing how the data is formatted I know why you are not showing up on QuestForever but rest assured the only thing that shows is the name of your character, and an id number trying to get either from the player feed returns nothing about your character.

Hey bud, how immature are you really?

I have a very serious concern and I most likely will not be the last person with this request.

If users could block their data, then how could I access it?

Wanting to protect myself or others if they prefer it, has nothing to do with my knowledge of web design, and use of the API.

I know a Puzzles from Unrest that does a bit of trolling..is that why your concerned about privacy? Nothing to be ashamed of there. Troll hard and be proud. It's just as much of a game style as decorating, raiding and tradeskilling.

I dont see the check box "Link to Alt Characters" in my Game, i play on Valor.

It won't be visible if you have a custom UI. We've had some folks running DrumsUI reporting issues.

I have deactivated all my custom ui items (i use the drums ui) but it doesnt work, when i log to my character on nagafen it works fine, is it online yet on the german server valor?

EQ2U works on all EQ2 servers including Valor, Storms, Sebilis, Test, and Test Copy.

I would login to that character, disable the checkbox "Enable EQ2Players Updates", change zone, enable the checkbox "Enable EQ2Players Updates", and change zone again. Then check http://u.eq2wire.com/ .

I think, this is International server problem. same problem on Sebilis.  default UI doesn't update for "Link to Alt Characters", so you should /bug.

btw. thank you Feldon, I like to check my character and wishlist on EQ2U.

Box missing on Storms too. Works fine from Everfrost and Test though.

btw, if the web devs teem could have a look at Storms badly updating on status page, it would be nice SMILEY

Hmm I guess the EU team missed the addition of that checkbox. It was done pretty late in the day.

You can see this problem on EQ2Wire too in the server status widget on the right. It's a question mark.

If the character is set to not publish info to the feeds, they shouldn't show up on a guild list either. If they do show up, that's something SoE should address. I'm not sure there's a need to have an entire guild hidden.

This, because it simply makes sense.
