What could possibly go wrong?

And I share the opinions of others above. It looks like we lose:

  • Voice chat outside of game
  • Text/Guild chat outside of game
  • Character Select
  • Multiboxing Support
  • Patch Notes
  • Automatic Unattended Updates

We gain:

  • Huge Advertising Space
  • Innumerable Bugs?

No boxing support? your joking? lol I always hated boxing because the game runs so very very very poorly can only alt tab back and forth on lowest graphics settings extreme performance but then games no lounger visually appealing so I gave up boxing long ago

quick rig spec

Win7 64bit

6core cpu 3.3ghz turbo 3.7ghz

8GB ram

SSD 256GB

GTX 460 1GB

We honestly don't know yet, but I think people had trouble with Patcher 3.

Streaming launch pad 3 supported boxing but with one massive set back each client requires a separate install of game

Full launch pad 3 supported boxing with only one game install

If Station Launcher becomes obsolete with this patch I really hope there will be a patch notes section and the ability to download everything before starting so you don't need to stream in-game.Without these features there will be a lot of unhappy players. Character select would be mandatory as well.

So, AoD is still coming out on Wednesday, correct? Because right here: http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...topic_id=509032 you announced November 30, 2011 for the release date.

Given that they say "new Launcher will be out BEFORE they release AoD and Freeport" Im guessing it wont be out on November 30th as first stated...maybe mid December?

Oh and what about those folks that run game directly from everquest2.exe, can they still do? Or will we only be able to play game from launchpad?

Yes, this is only a change to the launchpad dawy wrote:

New version supports both streaming and non-streaming. Pixiewrath@The Bazaar wrote:

Nobody needs to download any of the actual game content files again, if you were streaming before you'll still be streaming, if you were full download you'll still be full download. The lack of character select IS disappointing however. Tremis2 wrote:

Yes it remembers password. Secondly I don't think this will actually replace Station Launcher (the other games might have something to say about that), but choosing EQ2 on the Station Launcher will launch the EQ2 Launcher, rather than the game (judging by info on Knowledgebase). No reason to believe that the friends feature on Station Launcher will stop working as it's not an EQ2 specific launcher. IceStormx wrote:

Agreed, boxing works exactly as above... if you're a boxer currently on streaming I would switch to non-streaming for the performance gain anyway.

So, come wednesday you want me to login using a new launcher that: - has not yet been tested by users - removes my ability to pre-select my character - removes my out of game access to the friends server - removes the functionality to auto update games - removes my ability to review patch notes before logging in without resorting to loading up a web browser - removes the ability to access and manage multiple games from a single source - inflicts a migraine inducing colour scheme on the user (didn't you learn *anything* when you had to put back the default blue UI scheme?) - will be dearly loved by the 10% of US males that are red/green colour blind - inflicts obnoxious free to play advertising on the paying subscriber (hello? are you seriously trying to encourage people to pay less?!) I think almost any other company on the planet would understand that replacement software that removes so much functionality and adds so much aggravation is actually called a 'downgrade' not an 'upgrade'. And most would understand the folly of enforcing 'in your face' advertising to the fully subscribed customer. Do yourselves a favour. Take some of that cash that you've been raking in on the immersion killing junk that's flooding the marketplace and invest it in sending one marketing bod on a marketing course and one mechanics dev on a UI design essentials course. In the meantime I'll solve the issue for myself by taking the non mandatory path of just not bothering to log in.

Why do you force something on us we haven't asked for? Wouldn't it be better if you had come and asked us: "Dear customers, we are going to improve the launcher. What improvements and other options would you like to see included?"

And like Feldon say, it's not even tested by the players.

These forums are full of feedback from players about broken stuff that you don't even acknowledge you read. The population is in decline because of all issues that never get fixed.

This is more like a slap in face when you believe a new launcher is more important than fix what's broken in the game.

What about changing regions? Up to now on my character select I saw diffrent toons if I changed to US region and diffrent in I choose Europe.

I am playing on Splitpaw, so where in the new patcher will I be able to choose region diffrent than USA?

Or is is all combined and we can see all servers on one list?

In the screenshot, US English is selected. I'd imagine you can change it.

I'm very sad to see Station Launcher dissappear SMILEY

I use it often to keep in touch with people while I swap between toons. It was a great way to avoid swapping toon tell loss SMILEY

Please don't take away the functionality gained with Station Launcher!

There are two things that are important to me in a launcher and a few other things that really turn me off to a product.

  1. Critical ... Required for Continuance
    1. I will NEVER stream a game
    2. Multi boxing (as it currently is) must remain (streamless)
  2. Undesirable ... Hinderance (too much is too much)
    1. I HATE F2P and any advertising that is associated with it.
    2. Constant forced patching is detrimental to performance.
    3. intrusiveness can only be tolerated to a certain extent.

Station Launcher

  • Minimize to tray!
  • Login selected character directly
  • Patch/Download the whole game (no streaming)
  • Able to run multiple clients
  • Also chat/voice features
  • Multigame launcher ( less important now though, with the loss of SWG SMILEY )

I hope the new launchpad have all this and hopefully improve or add features...

They don't test the content that is put into the game, I wouldn't expect the launcher to be treated any differently.

They probably feel that fewer people will see the patch notes of the MANY ridiculous thing that make it so painfully obvious that no testing or thought went into beforehand this way.

- inflicts a migraine inducing colour scheme on the user (didn't you learn *anything* when you had to put back the default blue UI scheme?)

Yes the thing is ugly, very, very ugly.

- will be dearly loved by the 10% of US males that are red/green colour blind

I would likely get banned if I said who I thought would like this abomination.

- inflicts obnoxious free to play advertising on the paying subscriber (hello? are you seriously trying to encourage people to pay less?!)

No, they are just continuing to show the level of contempt that they have towards the player base as a whole, and and even greater level for the non SC spending portion thereof.I think almost any other company on the planet would understand that replacement software that removes so much functionality and adds so much aggravation is actually called a 'downgrade' not an 'upgrade'. And most would understand the folly of enforcing 'in your face' advertising to the fully subscribed customer.

I don't know of any other company that shows so much contempt for its customers.

Do yourselves a favour. Take some of that cash that you've been raking in on the immersion killing junk that's flooding the marketplace and invest it in sending one marketing bod on a marketing course and one mechanics dev on a UI design essentials course.

That will never happen, the more ridiculous things they put on there the more they sell because of what they have done to the overall quality of the game. This money will be going into making more in game items that are as good as or better than anything that can be obtained via drops/tradeskills in the game. The mounts are the fastest, the 44 slot bags is how they can sell rares and hurt crafters without most even noticing and very soon masters will be available for purchase for real money via research reducers. Guild, adventure an AA EXP 'packages' will be available via SC within 12 months, armor/weapons and or jewelry will be there as well.

In the meantime I'll solve the issue for myself by taking the non mandatory path of just not bothering to log in.

I've already paid them for AoD preorder, but I can't say that I blame you there, despite their best efforts I can't find anything better to play, so I continue to suck it up..

Paying subscribers should NEVER be exposed to advertising content that is being used to support F2P, it is totally unacceptable. We will likely be forced to though because they are probably going to plaster it all over the launcher.

If that is the case maybe the advertisers will see how ugly that launcher is because I am at the point where I hope this blows up in their face.

Ok I am looking at the Walkthrough on the new Launcher and I wanted to share this:

You can toggle between the full download and the streaming options by clicking on the Options button, clicking on the Select Game Version tab, and unchecking the boxes for "Full Download" and "Legends of Norrath."

There are a bunch of options/settings that can be changed by clicking the hammer/tools button in the lower left corner of the launcher.  (See below)

I still don't see any patch notes accessibility or chat, etc. though.

I am assuming there wasn't anyone from the art team involved in that thing since it looks horrible and the art team has been the best asset that SOE has had for a very long time.

Ugh!
